Can fill these up pretty quick with gigabit nbn 🙄

    • +11

With gigabit NBN you can just stream them all and don't need it XD

      • +11

Streaming Linux for 2 minutes is all I need.

        • +6

          2 minutes?

          Geez. Amateur.

I only need 8 seconds to download Linux.

        • That's what she says…

          • @BigLeviathan: Amateur BBW best of both worlds…wait what.. move along nothing is happening here..

      • +10

Not everything is available on Streaming services.

Plex + Sonarr + Radarr + NZB360 9S (Android app) + fast Internet = if i don't have it i open NZB360 on my phone and search for a TV show or movie and in a few minutes it's on plex ready to watch.

        • +4

You must be my long lost identical brother! As I have exactly the same setup.

Although wife still prefers netflix, God knows why!

          • @BigLeviathan: Mine too :-)
Gotta love those Linux ISO's ;-)

          • @BigLeviathan: I use radarr but occasionally it downloads a dud (eg non-english or fake). Does this happen to anyone else?

          • @BigLeviathan: Perhaps it's socially easier to talk about Netflix and infer you're paying for content.

Most people wouldn't know about Plex and how that works.

        • I've been getting into Usenet which private indexers do you use? If I may ask

          • @KBZ: abhdtv

            • @Scrobo: abhdtv registration is disabled, I suspect this is by invite only?

          • +1

@KBZ: NZBGeek is always a good bet, especially with their lifetime package. drunkenslug is also pretty good

            • @theg00s3: do you have a spare invite for drunkenslug? I'd be happy to get one too

              • +2

@BigLeviathan: @televisi sorry, I gave all my invites away the last time usenet was brought up on OzB. However, they do usually open up for public registration quite often, so if you set up an alert with visualping.io to scan for changes on https://drunkenslug.com/register, you should get an email when registration opens again

                • @theg00s3: Thanks for reminding me about visualping.io, interesting enough I've setup this alert since donkey years and the last 1-month history check shows 'website timeout'

                • @theg00s3: Thanks for your reminder re: visualping.io, got the alert this morning that they now accepts the registration, woho!!!

          • @KBZ: I use NZBGeek and NZBCat.

          • @KBZ: nzbgeek & althub, both lifetime subs; although nzbgeek is definitely way to go

          • @KBZ: Wow thanks for all the suggestions guys I managed to get drunken slug before they lo ked up registrations. Might look in to nzbgeek since alot of you have suggested as well.

        • I'm similar. I use Jellyfin instead of Plex, and LunaSea instead of NZB360 (I use an iPhone)

          • @theg00s3: My go to is nzbgrabit… Just find it easy elevating all the old stuff and new stuff.

Nzbgeek is good also. Same same with nzbu, omgwtfnzbs and dognzb

          • @theg00s3: Do you use jellyfin for the client as well?

            • @fredblogs: Yeah my "NAS" runs the Jellyfin Server, and everyone uses their personal devices to stream from it, either using their web browser or jellyfin-mpv-shim

      • lost the HFC segment lotto, can get 250 plans though.

    • Yeah, opposite with my wallet :o

  • +1

    IS this drive Shuckable.

    • +7

It is indeed. No tape shenanigans needed either.

      • Just a flat head screwdriver and it's open.

    • +1

Yup, that's why OP said it is Seagate Barracuda Pro inside.

One of the better shuckable drives imo. It is pretty straightforward to do.

  • Anyone know what's the model of HDD inside ? need to check if it'll work in my Synology DS1512+

    • +2

      ST10000DM0004 apparently

  • +6

Why do people always ask for others to be gentle or easy on them when they post for the first time?

    • +50

Because they want them to be gentle or easy on them

    • +2

      Why not?

    • +12

Because I'm totally expecting someone to say the price is inaccurate and should read $299.01 as listed on Amazon :P

      • +1

        297.97 today :)

    • +2

Because most people are…. Well, you know.

    • +17

      Because JV

    • Real Answer: There are many elements to add when making an OzBargain post… They feel like they are going to miss something out (I did the same thing on my first post).

For example, they got to add the delivery costs, title and a whole bunch of other stuff in the correct order which OzBargain listings are meant to be posted

      • +1

Because ozbargain community are crazy and mean. While the mod here are idiots and lazy in improving the sites, they just put some instructions and leave it to users.

  • This vs wd elements?

    • +3

WD Elements are NAS drives and often helium filled, they’re good for running 24/7.

If you just need a PC drive then always get whatever is the cheapest.

      • The barracuda pros are helium filled too.

I have 3 of these 10TB shucked running in a NAS. So far so good.

    • WD shucked may require the 3.3v pin method to work. (google it)

  • I suspect for warranty claim we would need to send it back to Amazon US?

    • +15

Correct but under ACL they are supposed to cover your postage.

Amazon however refused to do this when I tried getting a defective pair of US headphones repaired. I emailed Jeff bezos, no reply yet.

    • +3

I bought one a few months ago (the last Amazon deal) and it needed to be replace under warranty. I contacted Seagate Australia and they replaced it for me. I had to pay local postage only.

      • thats good to know, makes this an even better deal.

    • +1

      What's the warranty?

  • +1

Any advantages (except for cheap) or disadvantages running this in a Synology NAS compared to using a NAS drive like the IronWolf?
I'm thinking of replacing my two WD60EFAX (6TB Red) with two of these.

    • +6

      Advantages:
      • so much cheaper
      • non-SMR better than your WD60EFAX. Read up on it.

      Disadvantages:
      • no warranty after shucking (unless you our it back carefully)
      • firmware not optimised for 24/7 NAS operation but it’ll work fine

NEVER buy the WD60EFAX. It just never makes sense.

      • +1

Thanks, when I bought the WD60EFAX I was not aware of the SMR issues. Luckily I got them cheap and I needed a few temporarily disk quick.

      • wow, this is the first time I heard.
I suspect the "WD red drive NAS" is just merely marketing propaganda?

    • +1

Just more enduring really and designed to run continuously. If your NAS is being accessed constantly and not giving the drive a break a NAS drive is better, but if it's just a casual home media server then this should be perfect.

      • My DS418play runs FTP, Plex, Docker and NFS. I can hear the disks going 24x7.

        • NAS drive is probably for you then.

  • Does this have a us plug? The last drive I bought I needed to use a transformer, or I'm too scared not too but that was a long time ago aka 2tb lol

    • Comes with all of them. So you connect the correct one to the power supply

      • I'm trusting/hoping the reviews are accurate and the plug is like Apple power packs where you can select the pins for the region you're in.

        • I bought this back in December and it is. Beats contacting customer service like you would have to do with WD.

    • the amazon ad clearly stated "US Plug"; although the review and comments mixed

    • Whilst a lot of the older reviews have complaints about a US only plug the newer reviews all say it has multiple plugs.

  • +2

    Lowest * $261.56 Dec 04, 2019

    • Is it a decent NAS drive inside ?

      • +1

Yep - wd white, very easy to shuck and have thrown it straight in my Synology NAS

        • is it better than a baricuda pro performance wise? not going to shuck.

          • @johnnytran: Not sure to be honest, if you’re not going to shuck then I think they are basically on par, an external usb 3.0 Drive.

Don’t really know as I always shuck these bad boys

    • i tried to buy this. Never arrived after 6 weeks. No communication from seller. I got a refund from amazon in the end i guess but i would avoid this like the plague unless you like to gamble

      • +1

        The seller is amazon US?

have purchased these drives before and the delivery and ordering process is quick and flawless

        • -3

well that makes one of us

  • Is it possible to email Seagate for an AU plug or buy an OEM one from somewhere?

    • +1

      It includes multiple plugs.

      • Just read one of the Amazon reviews.

*Does this come with an Australian compatible power plug?

Hi … yes, mine did. In fact, it came with ALL international plugs.
By SafeBoyBNE on 1 January 2020*

Any reason why the lower capacity drives have cheaper shipping rates?

Form factor would be the same.

  • Is this the same thing but cheaper? Including free shipping??

    • +2

      $471 aud

Did you only just get the internet or something?

    • +3

The only catch is you have to live in America and use American dollars

      • Woah you should support the campaign for earth dollers, since earth evolves around America, not the other way around.

I think your onto something here.

        • A true global currency standard would be absolutely amazing. Definitely not happening I'm pre lifetime though.

        • +1

The earth is flat, and the USA isn't in the centre. It's near the West edge
