    $149 p.a. annual fee…

  • 0% Interest Rate for 6 months on purchases.

Thought this only ever applied to balance transfers. Anyone ever used this on an Amex? Do you just have to pay the minimum monthly payment?

    Fine Print:
1.The 0% p.a. introductory promotional interest rate is only available on new purchases only after your application is approved. New purchases made in the subsequent six-month period from/after the first purchase on your Card will be subject to the promotional interest rate. After the six-month introductory period, the interest rate for purchases will revert to the prevailing interest rate at that time. Any balances transferred from your existing American Express Card and any cash advances are excluded from the 0% p.a. introductory promotional interest rate. Interest rates are current as at 1 October 2011 and subject to change, including charges under our Interest Rate Policy. Offer only available to new Platinum Edge Basic Credit Card members.

    • yes you still pay the monthly minimum but no interest on everything else for 6 months.

  • Anyone know if you can bundle these points with QFF when booking flights?

    • -1

these points can be transferred to QFF

      • I'm not so sure!?

"You can transfer the points you earn to 7 different airline partners or redeem points for travel in-store with Travelscence American Express and Harvey World Travel, or online with Webjet12.

Qantas is not listed there!? The Ascent program does not include Qantas; Qantas Direct is an additional program that is not listed for this card!?

        • That's funny though, because in the product detail table for the Classic Platinum Amex, it shows an example using Qantas classic rewards (60000 points for SYD-SIN plus tax). Yet I cannot find any mention of QFF program in the rewards section of the website. =/

      • The Platinum Edge credit card will enroll into the Membership Rewards Ascent program - which doesn't do direct point transfers to Qantas Frequent Flyer (QFF). I believe you need access to Membership Rewards Ascent Premium, that comes with a Platinum charge card (or above), to be able to do direct point transfers from Membership Rewards to QFF.

You can compare the available AMEX Platinum cards and their offers here: http://www.americanexpress.com/australia/platinum-cards

        • You can enrol in Qantas Direct but if you do that you can't claim the free flight

    • Hey croyds, are you official rep or just an employee at AmEx?

If official, you should reply to the questions posted here to help your promo and protect your brand.

    • You can only transfer points to the following partner airline programs:
Velocity, Virgin Atlantic, Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways International and Air New Zealand.
Otherwise you can use your points in-store with Travelscence American Express and Harvey World Travel, or online with Webjet.

  • this is actually good. as the 25k points offset the annual fee

  • Time for the standard "which platinum/gold card is best" question - which platinum/gold card is best? Is this one any good?

I'm thinking of applying for a Westpac Altitude one based on recommendations from Canstar (http://www.canstar.com.au/credit-card-rewards/) but would obviously appreciate if anyone has any other advice.

    • Bankwest Zero Platinum/Gold are good. Free travel insurance, no annual fee.

  • Offer only available to new Platinum Edge Basic Credit Card members who apply, are approved by 31 January 2012

Awesome! My tax is due in Nov, will apply for this closer to the date and pay my tax on it. "Interest free loan" until May 2012! :o

Then cash in the points, and take up the free flight, and cancel it again in Nov 2012! :)

    • ? can we pay tax by credit card?

        • Yep, but it's tax deductible for business purposes and some private expenses.
At 0.48% for visa/mc and 1.25% for Amex, it's a good point earner for many business owners.
Speaking of which, this is the true "cost" of processing credit card payments, not the 2-5% many shops are charging as an excuse to "cover processing costs".

  • argh, i really need to look into a new CC. im with combank gold and its 90 a year and i dont get squat, except travel insurance.

really keen to get on board one that offere FF points.

  • Tempted to get this card and purchase 2 x new iPhone 4S outright.
Then slowly pay off within 6 months.

    • Then again the annual fee makes it less worthwhile.
