eMMC should be banned.
Jeez … we survived with 2.5" hard drives for years, and eMMC is a lot faster than that.
Rubbish device for the price
Why are they still producing such rubbish?
I'm looking for a deal for the M3 version with 8g ram and 128g, anyone know if there will be discounts before eofy
Same here
Ditto. Windows tablet has its place. I brought my ipad on one of my overseas vacations thinking that I could do everything there. I was wrong.
So, is this a deal or are you just looking for opinions?
Both I guess. Jbhifi cost $629 and I never use surface go before, been on Mac air for the last 8 years and it never break….. get no excuse to upgrade due to miss lol
just install bootcamp or parallels to run windows then.
They really shouldn’t make the base model with such crap specs.
But then an ipad7 with 32gb for about the same price gets lots of upvotes.Basic loss leader market theory, same as car manufacturers
I bought last year when HN had it at $398. It's great. I was really surprised, that it performed so well. I put a 128GB MicroSD card in there. Far better and easier to use than my iPad was. I use it for reporting on the fly in my 2nd job as a contractor.
The only time I found it really slow, was when I did all the Windows updates when I first purchased it.Maybe wait till last week of June, and see if anyone has it @ $400 for EOFY.
How hard would it be to turn this into a portable second screen?
Honestly, plugging a pi into it is probably more useful
Overpriced
It all depends on what you’ll be using it for.
If your needs are light it’ll be fine eg browsing, email etc. It you want to run anything more intensive eg photo/video editing forget about it.
Been using my 1st generation surface go (8GB RAM, 128GB NVMe SSD) since it first came out. It’s perfect for what I needed it for: web browsing, checking emails, working on MS Words and Excel files on the go, etc. and it is very portable even with the keyboard attached. YMMV but for me it has done the job.
I have the 1st gen 64gb and have been very happy with it. Works great for browsing, Netflix and some light gaming. Runs older games like Skyrim and Half Life 2 well with low graphics which actually looks fine given the small screen.
Having said that, I bought it second hand for $250. At $550 new the value for money is questionable.
Get an older surface Pro with i5 or i7 with at least 8gb ram.
eMMC HDDs are way too slow.
