  • How good are these ?

    • Good enough for your theatre. Pretty good actually.

To be honest I have one and I think it’s of little use in Australia as we don’t have significant air pollution. If you want to reduce dust because of allergies you are better off with vacuuming more regularly. Without cranking up this air filter it doesn’t do much but by running it at a higher setting it’s noisy and a power drain. It also needs to be run in an enclosed space ie windows and doors closed otherwise it’s pretty pointless as you bring in “contaminated/polluted” air.

Some people do claim it improves hay fever symptoms but I haven’t seen anything other than anecdotal evidence for this.

It can remove odours from my experience but so does a can of Glen20. YMMV.

      • You make some good points. We have a Dyson handstick and the amount of dust that is collected in the bin within a few mins each vacuum… There's no way an air filter would get rid of that.

      • Good for smoke from bush fires, not much else.

      • Hi mate, I am just contending to buy one for my family as we live near a dense bush areas where fires are quite common.

Not sure if this would aid though

      • Yeah on auto how much do these purifiers really do? I bought the 3H and I think it MIGHT be helping with my allergies somewhat. I have it in my bedroom, I still leave the window slightly open as fresh air is important for good sleep too. The purifier always has air quality at 001 or 002 so air quality is great. I just hope that on auto setting it still sucks up dust/pollens and has benefits even at that low fan speed, hopefully it's not just a waste of power..

        • I have a 3H as well and recently my housemate did a bit of stir-fry cooking and the fan went insane (counter went up to 200). In about less than 5 minutes, my room had 'cleaner' air and I could breathe much easier. So yeah, works for me. Also, I live next to a freeway where the constant traffic brings about a nice amount of dust/pollutants.

"we don’t have significant air pollution"

        Seriously!?

Were you asleep for the bush fires?
We had the worst air quality in the world for almost a quarter of a year.

        Wow.

        • +5

Yes, we don’t have significant air pollution compared to places like China or India. You are talking about a one off event that affected some cities with a transient increase in air pollution. Annual bushfires are usually nowhere near the same extent of the massive fires we saw during the past summer. To suggest we have major air pollution because of a one off freak event is being disingenuous.

            @gamemaster:

You are talking about a one off event

That type of event is going to become more frequent and more severe every year because of climate change.

In about ten years most of the world is going to be having wildfires like this. The stupidity of koala charity, saving animals while doing nothing to stop climate change, will become apparent as extinction rates accelerate across the globe.

Large parts of the world are already experiencing this eg. USA, EU, Australia, Russia.

This was predicted 50 years ago.

Most Australian's voted to do zip.

      • that would be depends on what kind of neighbors u having,
if ur neighbors BBQ 3 times a week and start using wood heaters in May like mine, then u definitely need one.

    • I got a 3H recently and it seems to be helping with the smoke from next door's wood heater. Every time I open the door smoke wafts in and the air purifier makes it go away a lot quicker. If nothing else the PPM reading is giving me more evidence for the eventual complaint to council..

  • How often do you have to change the filter, and how much are they?

    • Depends on your environment air quality. Xiaomi says 12 months, other people have reported twice that time (in previous posts).
      They are usually ~$50

    • Mine lasts generally 12 months (give or take 2 months) running 10 hours per day.

  • +1

Have one for over a year in out bedroom. Have on 24hrs a day on sleep mode. Good sleep and partner does have any sneezing frenzy anymore.

  • Do these help to eliminate odours?

    • Yes. Accidentally, had the door open when cooking. The purifier on max helped so much.

        does it kill virus?

  • 3H has way more features - look at xiaomi website to confirm.

    • +1

Different seller. This one you listed is sold by Xiaomi and ships in 1-3 days. Shipping is included.

The op listed one is sold by Kogan and ships in 1-2 weeks. Shipping is extra unless you have Kogan first

      • +1

Kogan actually dispatched it the next day…

  • bought one of the previous models a few years ago, never really had a chance to use it. unless it's bushfire or hey fever season, I don't think it's really that useful in Australia. and I came here so I don't have to use air purifiers or air masks.

Better to buy from eBay than to support Kogan

    Mi Store eBay $179.95
    Allphone eBay $177.61

Also Kogan Shipping to Sydney is $34.99 apprarently lol

    • You could do a free trial of Kogan First and get free delivery?

Care to elaborate on why not to support Kogan when it's $20 cheaper than those stores (assuming above free shipping)?

      • +1

Kogan inflated prices very heavily during the past few months, $15 + delivery for a 50mL Dettol Hand Sanitizer

Support wise, there is no live chat for Kogan so if things goes wrong it'll take a considerable more effort to resolve.

And paying with 3% giftcard from Macquarie for eBay makes the savings from Kogan with first subscription not worth it for me

        • Kogan inflated prices very heavily during the past few months, $15 + delivery for a 50mL Dettol Hand Sanitizer

Are you negging this Purifier deal or the Sanitiser deal?
It's like saying if I have an issue with a recent TGG Smart Hub price error deal which did not get honoured, I am going to neg every future TGG deals. No, I will vote on the merit of that future deal, not base on the last TGG deal I voted. Just saying.

          • @Buy2Much: negging because of ridiculous shipping fee, if it wasn't for shipping fee, I wouldn't neg the deal but I still wouldn't buy from Kogan.

And price error and price gauging are completely different.

With price error, you could do OW pricematch like me or some people get $20 credit, so a gain for some and simply a refund for others

Price gauging is taking advantage of a bad situation, benefiting themselves and not the consumers

            So very different thing

            • @ln28909: Aliexpress, Shopping Square and a few other big online stores have also been guilty of marketing and selling overpriced face masks and sanitisers for months. It does not mean that people should stop posting or neg every future deal from their stores.

              • @Buy2Much: Marketplace does not count as the sellers can choose to price whatever, and oversea stores doesn't matter as they are not Australian. As for shopping square, I haven't bought from them recently.

The overpriced listing on Kogan was directly sold by Kogan so that's different.

And as I said, I negged because of the delivery fee, if this is a deal solely through free delivery accessible only by Kogan First then it should be added to title. As Kogan First is not available to everyone, the trial is also not applicable to those who had used it before

                • -1

                  @ln28909:

if this is a deal solely through free delivery accessible only by Kogan First then it should be added to title.

The title never said "free delivery", it clearly says "…+ delivery". The description body clearly stated "Good price if you have free shipping through Kogan First (there's a free trial)."

The description also has "buy from Mi Store via Kogan Market place for $179 delivered, no Kogan First membership required" for those who don't have Kogan First. Taking into account 2% CR, that'd be $175 going down this path.

                  • -1

@Buy2Much: Without Kogan First it's $190+, whereas other store is selling for less than $180, so yes this is only a deal if you have free delivery, I have reported to Mod but maybe they are asleep

And as for cashback, it's only for new customers and even with it, ~$177 from All phones ebay minus 3% GC is still cheaper so I'm not sure what you're on about

      • You could do a free trial of Kogan First and get free delivery?

That's what I did to get free shipping on an item I wanted.

  • Damn, forgot about cashback

  • Hmmm… this or the upcoming Aldi fan + heater + air purifier?

  • I only breathe air which has first gone through a tiny machine. $159 is basically nothing for pure air.

    • I bought the little one yesterday. No idea if it will make that much of a difference but I couldn’t find anything else remotely close to $49 and with a proper HEPA filter

  • delivery fees…

  • FYI Despite the ad saying 1-2 weeks dispatch, mine has been dispatched the next day.

    • Mine too, interesting that it says on the email "1 x IEC-C5 Cable yet to ship" I assume that as this is an import it will have an overseas plug on it, so they must be providing a new cable, wonder how long that will take to arrive?

      • +1

It's a common clover leaf plug so you might be able to use one from an unused device in your house. I'd rather that than having to use an adapter.

      • I didn't see that but it is on my email too.

Just got my 2H today and sadly didn't come with the package (other power cable was within the filter compartment). The filter looks slightly used as well - lots of spots. Has anyone had this?

        • +1

Mine arrived today too, same, no extra power cable, couldn't find a spare one in the house so I nipped down to Jaycar to grab one, $8. I don't have any issues with my filter, looks brand new as it should.

          • @pkh: Too late for you but if anyone else is waiting for an Aust power cable to arrive, you can use a cheap inbound Aust power adapter (some people would have at least one if they ever bought grey import before). Or grab one from the local Target or Officeworks for $5 at most.

      • Anyone received their cable yet?

        • Nope
