Not to be a party pooper… But would anyone know of any possible deals for mechanical keyboards going on at the moment?

    • +6

Don't get a deal, get a Ducky One 2 with Cherry Brown switches. I bought a white one with full size and LED backlight. Will last for until we use VR goggles and our voices and keyboards are redundant. It shits over my Corsair K70 which Cherry Reds.

      • +1

Second on a Ducky, have had one for….6 years now? Still going strong even after multiple drops from having a toddler run around the house and deviling things up.

        Thing is built solid AF

      • Would you recommend a Mini at all? Or does it really matter? I have a laptop so I would favour the portability, the TKL version with cherry brown switches is out of stock in most shops…

      • +2

If you're working from home, get blues instead… ;)

        • i work from home and my blue switch annoyes my kid lol…

        • I second blues for the sound and the tactile feel. CLICKCLACKCLICKCLACK

Just make sure it's okay with your WFH coworkers as mine does not like them. Also, unless your mic/apps have noise cancellation, others will hear them on calls if you're typing.

      • I have the K70, which was also my first mechanical keyboard. I really like my K70 and cannot fault it. Could you please briefly describe how the Ducky One 2 is much better? Am interested to see if it is worth the upgrade.

        • +2

To put it as simply as possible, build quality. I also have a Corsair K70 and have not even considered upgrading. Functionally it's been flawless.
A mate & co worker had a Ducky keyboard and they are just rock solid.

          Ducky has better build quality.
          Ducky is better for typing.
          Corsair has better software.
          Looks is subjective.
Corsair can usually be found cheaper.

        • +3

I have both, as I needed a second keyboard for the office. The ducky is nicer to type on and also nicer sounding. But I wouldn't recommend buying it if you already have a K70 and it would just be collecting dust.

        • I have a K70 RGB with brown switches and a Ducky Shine 3 with browns and the duck feels more solid and better built. The key caps are also 100x better than the corsairs which are absolute rubbish. I had half a dozen key caps break for no reason. Since replacing them with PBT caps its been great.

          • @dny: how do you even break key caps? I have never had it happen.

            • @chid: Corsair even acknowledge the problem and will send out replacement caps (which also broke)

              https://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167224

The centre bit which covers the stems on the switch just crumbles away. At first the cap starts feeling a bit loose before the inside walls of the key cap snaps altogether.
For keys which I regularly use while gaming like WSAD I can understand (still not acceptable quality) but I had my "]" key break too which probably had under 100 clicks in it's lifetime.

I ended up buying the Razer replacement PBT caps and haven't looked back. Its a perfect fit except for the spare bar, and some of the function key icons don't match.

    • I have this one from Kogan and it's very good. Been using it for 6 months and no problems I love it.

      https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-full-rgb-mechanical-keybo…

      • I use the Kogan one at work. Does the job annoying my colleagues lol.

      • Don't do it, so loud

        • Obviously if you get blues. Browns are fine

    • I also suggest getting one that fits all your requirements, rather than buying the best deal and making sacrifices. I've got two which have lasted years. They are so sturdy, I can't justify buying a new one even if there's a good deal because they don't have anything wrong after all this time.

Also agree on Ducky as a great brand. My other one is a corsair.

  • +2

AW3420 listed at 2500 so only comes down to 2000 with the coupon code for those wondering.

The deal listed here on the website for 25% off still a better deal.

  • Any recommendations for a budget laptop under $1k?

    • Looks like it’s only the Vostro 14 is around $1k after discount

      • +4

Check out the Lenovo ThinkPad range, ThinkPad L580 is $949.50 delivered (2 days shipping) or ThinkPad E595 is $849.50 (4 weeks shipping) but other ThinkPad ie. E495 have been <$700 a few months ago.

        • -3

I don't recommend Lenovo, after 1 or 2 years it starts to break down, stick with Dell. Lenovo quality is not that good.

          • +7

@kml22: do not agree, my thinkpad is 4 years old and going strong. owned dells previously and this has far better build quality.

          • +3

@kml22: do not agree either. I see heaps of a few Thinkpads in my house. Also I generally see old thinkpads lying around work and other places, never ever see old Dells or HPs.

          • +2

@kml22: Cheap Dell's have the same build quality as lenovos in that price range.

          • @kml22: Dell's quality has dropped a lot lately, been getting a new batch of 5300's in at work, had quite a few issues with some, brand new and already fan issues and some wont detect the harddrives.

          • @kml22: Adding another anecdote - there are 3 thinkpads in our house. The oldest is 9 years old… The newer ones are 4 years old. All used by different members of the household. None of them have anything broken and still run. The 9 y/o one is just excruciatingly slow because it's back to spinning metal again after the SSD that upgraded it moved on to a new build desktop. Also, it's battery doesn't last very long at all anymore. But anyway, I think that's a good experience regarding their longevity.

*edit - I just realised, I have a 10 year old ideapad that no one uses at all. But last I checked a couple of years ago, it still ran linux and nothing was broken on it either.

          • @kml22: I also have a Lenovo Thinkpad which wouldn't boot after about 2 weeks.
Had it serviced twice before they fixed it. I think they swapped the SSD out.
Lenovo was previously criticised for adding spyware out of the box, although I don't think they do that anymore.
My dell laptop lasted years and my dell desktop is still going after almost 7 years.

          • @kml22: to put my 2c into this discussion, if you want reliability, stick to last generation business grade workhorses from either Dell or Lenovo and you will see equal reliability.

this generally means T490s and Latitude 5490

        • Thanks Izzyhop, they seem like decent computers for the price in terms of ram/cpu/storage.

          • @Bargearse: For a basic laptop, they are spec'd and priced pretty well, but no backlit keyboard, screen res, no touch screen etc. is an issue for some.

I have a ThinkPad for work and it gets hammered about and still going strong.

            • @Izzyhop: Will just be for watching movies, web and school work Maybe some basic games So fits the bill. Reading through the other posts on these it looks like an update is imminent so may wait for a sale on these models

        • Lenovo quality is quite good. I have a 2012 Lenovo laptop still working up until today. It started to breakdown last year starting with the Wifi and now the audio.

        • I have to weigh in on the Lenovo as well. Just had 2 in a row doa from the last deal. The e495.
Got a refund on the second one, won't be buying again.

        • Lenevo's are made in Wuhan, just saying.

    • Lenovo ThinkPad E595 with ram upgraded to 16gb

Silver mouse? that is so 2005.

    • +3

It has a heavy little rolling ball sitting in a donut disk on the bottom.

Can be had for $46.51 at Amazon if that's your preferred corporation.

      • what the… The product spec from that link says it has a 14" screen, 2 processors, ddr4 8gb ram & 802.11ac. Did I completely miss out on the mouse hardware revolution?

  • +3

Just a warning about the mouse. I was given one and the side thumb buttons are in a terrible spot. The "back' button is basically under when your thumb naturally rests so it gets pressed ALOT by accident. Annoyingly it can't even be remapped in the Alienware software or Windows, so you need to download a 3rd party program to disable it. Pressing back when you are almost finished an online form or order is incredibly frustrating.

    • Their keyboards have a weird problem where the macros interrupt any other input (eg if you try to activate a macro while walking, you will stop). Have you experienced anything similar with the mouse buttons? What about when they are macro-ed to another key?

      • Don't really use macros, so can't tell you. Sorry.
Have you found it in all games or just a couple?

        • It appears to be hardware level. All games and apps.

It's pretty frustrating actually, as it affects gameplay if you trigger something while walking (which is a borderline deal breaker)

  • +3

waiting for the next "near new" sale from Dell outlet on Ultrasharp monitors

  • Looks like some decent pricing on what appears to be the latest XPS 13, cheaper to grab the 1tb model via this deal, than to grab the 512gb model directly from Dell.

  • Someone just got 10 mouses ????

    • Good ol' Broden.

The Inspiron 15 7590 is decent with 20% off, for a relatively light ultraportable-ish laptop with a decent GPU, and large battery : https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-7590-Laptop-9th…

    • +2

I bought i7 gen8 Inspiron laptop 2 years before and it run much less smooth than my i5 gen8 laptop (3 times cheaper) on the same game due to heating issue. If any OP is interested in Inspiron i7 models, please be aware of the overheating design, though it looks good on paper specs.

      • that sucks. tried undervolting?

        • Because that's a laptop for work (I didn't pay for it), so I didn't make any mod. It works great on web browsing and docx.

  • +1

That mouse is incredibly bad. I got it for free with a Dell laptop in a previous sale. I wouldn't even give it away it's that bad.

  • +1

The new XPS 13 seem like a great laptop, but $3699 (before 20%) for the i7 16GB/512GB? Ouch.

    • +1

Just keep in mind that the new XPS 13 9300 has some serious quality control issues, even worse than before. I purchased the i7/16GB/512GB/4k version of the XPS 13 9300 and had the following issues,

      • Yellow tint around the edges and bottom half on screen.
      • Display blackout when unplugging and plugging in power.
      • General sluggish performance. Even just navigating around windows 10 is a bit slow. A clean install helped somewhat but still felt slower than a 8th Gen i7 Ultrabook.
      • Long boot time (>55 seconds to boot from a full shutdown).

Based on all the rave reviews, it seems like reviewers are receiving cherry picked devices.

Despite all this the look and feel of the device is stunning, it stands apart from the crowd with the bezel less 16:10 display. Ultimately, I ended up returning mine for a full refund.

If anyone gets one make sure to check for any QC issues. Reddit has lot of posts on XPS QC issues.

      • +1

Interesting! All the reviews seem to rave about them. I got a Surface Pro 7 i7/16GB/512GB recently and am happy with it. These Surface are getting to a good laptop levels these days IMO as long as you don’t need high end graphics. I would like to try a Surface Book 3 when it comes out. I use mine much more as a laptop than a tablet so that could suit me.

  • Just a heads up to anyone wanting their item ASAP. I've been waiting over 3 weeks for my Dell G7 15 to arrive.

    • Yeah some of the desktops are delivery between 28th May and 9th June

    • This is standard. My laptop took a month.

  • Is the Dell G7 15 with RTX2060 for $1943 a decent deal? It seems to tick all the boxes for me.

    • Only if you can't stretch to an Asus Scar III which would have better thermals and noise.

    • G7 15 with 2070 was $2079 last time around.

  • I used to have this mouse and wasn't a fan of the ergonomics but I did like the look. Also surprised me that it didn't even use the same Alienware centre that my Alienware 13 laptop (at the time) used and it was a seperate app. It even power surged on the USB port a couple of times. Gave up and sold it for peanuts since I had no use for it.

  • That mouse reminds me of a Logitech G9x except uglier.

  • yeah my mouse literally died this morning.

    this will do

  • Considering this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-5593-Laptop-10t… 10th Gen i7-1065G7 16GB RAM 512GB SSD FHD but only internal graphics. With discount $1259.20 Seems pretty high performance for this price?

    • wanted the same one. I messaged Dell eBay to get an extended warranty on it, and I didn't get a response. All of the stock is now sold out. So sad :-(

      • Back in stock-but also check out dell outlet, I just bought 1 there .

  • It looks like their old entry level mouse, with some lights added. And the extra buttons are basic/not great. Not a fan.

  • Thinking of buying a mid to high performance gaming laptop soon - would this (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-G7-15-7590-Gaming-Laptop-9t…) be a good deal? I've also seen lots of people talking about the new laptops to be coming out with AMD's new CPUs so would it be better to wait for those? i.e. https://www.pccasegear.com/products/49666/asus-tuf-amd-ryzen…

Ideally, I think I would like a 17 inch (as a desktop replacement), but would consider a 15 inch if the price is right.

    • Personally I'd wait for Ryzen 8 core 4800/4900 notebooks incoming soon. They'll wipe the floor with Intel for multicore tasks. Though for the games that still mainly use single core, Intel will be better.

  • OP, you can remove has links in the ebay link for mouse. That might stop user's tracking in case they are using Cashrewards or Shopback.

  • +1

Thought the post is about a deal on Dell mouse but all comments are talking about keyboards, laptops from other brands lol

  • Looking for a laptop under $1500 that can be an all rounder. Some retro gaming, nothing intense but would love a keypad and 14" or bigger. I don't often use the touchpad and normally have it plugged into the charger. Anything here that would be good value?

    • Check out Dell Outlet

  • How's Inspiron 13 2in1s? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-13-7391-2-in-1-Lap…

I am after a light weight portable device with touchscreen for whiteboards. Prefer Surface Laptop but these have better specs for lower price.

  • How much performance/bang for buck do you lose getting a 2 in 1 over a conventional laptop? I will rarely use tablet form but if there's minimal performance hit I may get one. At the moment I'm tossing up between a HP Pavilion or a Dell. The delay in shipping concerns me as I feel I'm likely to get a better deal in the 3 weeks this will take to arrive…

    • +1

Skip the HP. Their products are OK, but if you ever have an issue they are epicly useless. Dell products and support are usually very good.
      Source: I work in IT.
The issues with 2in1 are heat (enemy of all electronics), and battery. There is less space for them to build in decent cooling and bigger batteries, so they tend to put in lower spec hardware to compensate.
That being said, if you only use it for emails and web browsing you may not notice. It just seems that the tablet style have a shorter useful life.
The Lenovo business laptops are pretty good bang for buck and last pretty well.

      • Thanks for the reply!

Heat and noise are important for me which is why I'm trying to avoid the "gaming" Dell and HP laptops. The most strenous game I'll play will be C&C remaster so I'm thinking a Vostro with the MX250 but I couldn't find any Vostro in store to play with. The Inspiron 3000 series seemed crappy as did the standard HP's but the Dell G3 and the HP "Gaming" seemed well built…

I also hate the idea of waiting weeks for it to arrive which is why I haven't looked at Lenovo.

        • What is your budget? C+C will run on almost anything these days.

Also, if you decide on a dell have a look at their outlet store https://www.dell.com/en-au/outlet
Its either refurb or orders that were cancelled, so you can pick them up a bit cheaper.

Check out the Lenovo Thinkpad E series and compare to what you are looking at. Unless you are buying directly from a shop that has them in stock you will have to wait anyway.
