Sony Ericsson Cedar from Telstra - Cheap Mobile for Rural Use $49

60

Telstra have the Sony Ericsson Cedar for $49 (including $10 credit) delivered on their prepaid phones site at the moment. This phone is top ranked by them for rural tick-ness (along with the much more expensive Blackberry Torch).

These are the only two phones that they say this about:

'Recommended for customers who want to maximise their coverage. This may be because they live or work outside of regional centres and towns, or in rural locations, or simply need a device with the maximum coverage capability'.

It's a pretty basic phone with smallish keys and (according to reviews) average audio quality. If handheld Next G coverage is your primary concern it might be worth it.

  • doesn't seem to be on sale…

is this cheaper than at other places?

    • Decent phone for the price, looks like it supports the NextG network. The Nokia 2730 was $49 at my local post office, but from what I've seen in your other comments jv i don't think your willing to stay on the optus network…

      • In the country you have to use Telstra for best coverage.

  • Until a couple of days ago it was $59. Dick Smith and ebay sellers are still selling it for that.

Whoops - just checked - Dick Smith have it for $49 now too, but not delivered.

Presumably everyone will drop the price, so it's only the free delivery that makes Telstra better (which would be good for those it's aimed at).

The bargain comes in that it's very cheap for their best reception phone.

  • +1

The signal reception on these phones is incredible. Best "simple" phone out there IMO.

  • What's the cost & process to unlock these? Anyone happen to know?

    • Because you're buying the phone outright would they even be locked to Telstra?

      • Not sure. It isn't clear on the Dick Smith site.

      • Yes, most Telstra PrePaid phones are locked.

        • +1

Yep, a Whirlpool post confirms this.

So, back to my original question… :p
