Hard to get excited about any deals with travel benefits. Amex are going to have to get real and slash fees.

My renewal is coming up. Not sure how I can justify a $450 fee for a travel credit I might be able to use at some point (maybe).

It's a great card and normally a good deal, but I wouldn't be signing up at the moment. And I'd imagine their internal policies on who they approve are going to be a hell of a lot stricter with the amount of job losses going on.

Edit: I just clicked the link and it says 55k points for me?

  • I recently got the ANZ visa 100k equivalent and I got to say that with the self isolation we are doing, I found it hard to hit the $4000 spend as I would normally spend on large one off items like holidays and flights as well as work travel claims.

I was lucky in that I could use my Visa card to purchase $2000 worth of Woolworth gift cards via Entertainment Book (5% discount). Not sure if you can do the same for Amex but have a look for yourselves.

Also, agree with the above poster regarding no flight benefits with this card. To be honest I'm not sure what value I'd put on the points now as well.

Signed up in Feb. Received 100k points first statement.

Haven't book any flights yet and then COVID happened.

Live Chat aren't willing to waive the fees and will extend the expiry date of the credit "Later this year"

    • Confirmed if card is cancelled, credit is 100% invalid.

    So now,

      • I'm stuck holding this card, 'hoping' they will extend the expiry date before Feb 2021, so I can then
      • Immediately book flights then cancel card
    • I wasting away time on not resetting 'last active AMEX CC date' by keeping my card active with AMEX.

Pretty annoyed to be honest haha

    • My travel credit due late-April 2020 was extended recently (annoyingly a few days after I forced a domestic booking after weeks of asking for an extension).

From the email I got on 1st April..
"To give you one less thing to worry about, for Qantas Travel Credits expiring between 1 February 2020 and 30 June 2020 that have not been redeemed, we are extending the expiry date to 31 December 2020."

So you probably wont get any hint of an extension until late 2020 or even early 2021 if you plan on waiting it out.

100k Amex points is only 50k actual miles now right? Not worth it.

    • +2

It's 100k Qantas points, not Amex points.

      • Yea well jokes on you because apparently I can't read

          Laughing right now

  • Been riding the credit card bonus points for years, would not touch this deal at the moment now though.

Is the $450 annual fee counted towards the $3000 spend?

      Negatory
