Draytek VigorNIC 132F ADSL/VDSL PCIe Modem $80.32 + CC Fees + Delivery @ Itsdirect.com.au

50

PCIe ADSL/VDSL router. Works in NAT mode or Bridge mode. Pfsense also identifies it as a realtek (re0) device.
Has a 2nd WAN port that supports SFP. Comes with low profile and full profile bracket.
Consumes much less power than an external device and boots much faster.

Performance like other drayteks don't seem to be the fastest. Generally a solid product.

Product details can be found here:

Got it running at home with pfsense. Used this article to set it up and gain access to the web gui interface

Next cheapest price is $164+ delivery on staticice. Keep in mind the product went EOL in 2018. Shame cause it's a good product and there's not really anything else on the market.

NOTE: The itsdirect.com.au web site is really outdated. Only supports passwords UP TO 8 characters. Looks like it can be easily hacked. Don't reuse passwords in general, but especially their site. Payment processing via credit card is done by St. George payment portal which is smart of them. I beleive "It's Direct" doesn't record any credit card details.

They ended up being very prompt with delivery. My order had an issue related with kapersky blocking the processing. Called them up on Monday, got it delivered by Tuesday. Paid just under $97 after all the cc and delivery fees.

Hope this helps out people who might be interested in this niche product.

PS. I am in no way affiliated with the seller or manufacturer.

  • This company used to be a top buy brand a decade or so ago.
Draytek pricing shot themself in the leg as Asus etc and their competitive price will eventually kill Draytek off.

Back in the days, Drayteks were good in the sense they had a good consumer grade router with vpn and vlan support. Their main competitor was Billion. Things have changed a lot since then.

      • and what happened to billion…. and fritz…

        • Fritz are still around. I still have a 7390 which is a champion with dsl performance speeds.
I don't use all the extra features like wifi, answering machines, NAS etc. I don't think I'd buy another, just cause I don't need all that stuff anymore. This PCIe router works just nicely.

No problems recommending Fritz if you need that stuff.

No idea what happened to Billion. Had to look them up. They seem to be around still too. Don't have much experience with their product so I can't comment much on them. Only seen 1 at a client site and peaked around on it. That was about it.

@Posts: I had a 7270 then a 7272 and absolutely loved them, even though like you I didn't use all the features they had.

Only reason why I had to give it up the 7272 was that didn't work nicely when it was connected to a bridged modem (had to when I got FTTN) or else I'd still be using it.

  • Does anyone know which broadcom chipset it uses ?

    • I don't know if this is what you're after. I got this from the DSL status page off the router.
