Amazon Kindle E-Reader - Black (2016) $59 Delivered @ Myer

800

Not a new e-reader but there's not a big difference between this and the newer 2019 model
Comparison: https://www.knowyourmobile.com/accessory-review/amazons-new-…

$59 I would say its still a good bargain

(Tho I am not a reading much books… Still grab myself one..)

Thanks. Does this have a back light?

    • unfortunately it doesn't

      • well that is a big difference then. 2019 model is a lot better.

    • No and only 167 ppi.

      • Thanks mate

    • No

800 × 600 pixel screen, so chunky. 4GB, no SD slot.

No ePub support, which kills it for me. OK if you want to buy everything from Amazon.

    • +19

      Calibre

      • Does that automate the conversion process?

Still, the main advantage of e-ink for me is outdoor viewing on holidays :-(

        • +5

Yes once you set it up. And also easier to manage than Nook, Kobo etc.

You just put your kindle device e-mail address in, specify the device is MOBI and then you can easily convert and send any format of books direct to your kindle.

      • +4

+1 love calibre, it's how i've been getting everything on and off the kindle, the amazon web portal and out of the box file management is utter trash. calibre makes it nice and easy.

    • The ePub is what I was wondering about. Thanks for this, didn't have to go searching for the answer myself!

    • That res is perfectly fine for ebooks, still clear and sharp text.
And calibre auto converts formats for you, very easy.

  • 167ppi, but has bluetooth

    Oh

You can't listen to music or audio books, it only lets you take advantage of VoiceView text to speech which reads books aloud and helps you navigate the menus

  • No stock anyway - get to delivery and says no stock - expired

  • insufficient stock not a real deal

    • +6

Is it not a deal for those who were able to get it?

  • -1

Also was $10 for delivery when i tried.

  • Only significant downside is the backlight - i've got the original kindle paperwhite and paid $100NZD for it - at the time it was well worth it. If you don't have great eyes the backlit display is a must and makes it the same as paper at low settings and easier to read than paper at high settings.

  • What's the best tablet again that plays nicely with public library (NSW) systems, ideally with backlight?

  • Bought. Thanks

    • -8

You cant have just bought it
its stock out for the last 10 mins at least

      • +13

I saw deal, I bought, I posted thanks. What have you missed here? Do you want a receipt or something….?
Also, was free delivery but may take up to 2 weeks…

            @unifex: RUOK?

          • +1

            @unifex: y u so salty

          • +2

@unifex: You missed out. No need for the salty comments.

            • @[Deactivated]: Wasn't being salty. he posted bought it thanks after i was on there and it had out of stock. I simply made the comment you can't have just bought it.

      • +1

        Its OzBargain, not OzBargainUnlimitedStockForEveryone.

Good deal, Ozbargained, and still worthy of the post and comments for who got one.

  • +10

original Paperwhite $75 on eBay refurbished
I would not get a Kindle without backlight in 2020

however it's a good price if you can get your hands on one

    • -6

I would not get a Kindle without backlight in 2020

Then you're going to be disappointed - none of their current lineup have backlights.

      • +10

backlight.. frontlight.. whatever. all of them have light now

  • damnit i missed out - i snooze i lose!

    • I was literally snoozing.

  • +1

No wonder Myer was in trouble for some time……still having this sort of stock they need to offload.

  • that went quick

  • what's the battery life like on this?

    • +1

      It's good.

      • Even if it's been sitting in a warehouse for 4 years though?

        • How do you figure that?

          • @dm01: 2020 - 2016 = 4 years old (or 3 and a half at best).

            • @sam buster: This was the current model until last year - it's very unlikely this is a four year old unit.

              • @dm01: Ah, okay. I didn't realise that - also misled by an earlier comment.
                So there wasn't a Kindle 9.

you know why sometimes I am scared to come to OZbargain

When there is something you really want and it is selling really cheap,
then they will be gone just in a minute, 99.9% you will miss the sale for sure,
and you will start to hate yourself being so slow
eventually, you will reach the FML emotional level

my night is ruined, again, by OZbargain…

Really need some Corona with lime…any sale for beer?

    • +1

have an upvote from me, I know it can get rather dramatic
but on the plus side there's a better bargain always around the corner haha

      • yeah, from the downvotes I reckon you can't be emotional or dramatic on this site, lol but anyway thanks for the upvote mate~ XD

    • I feel your pain! nothing worse when you miss a deal on something you actually want/need.

    • I'd still spring for the waterproof version of the kindle. You can rinse it under the tap, you can drop it in the bathtub, read it while floating in a pool. Read it in the rain at your bus stop.

  • +1

    There is a big difference.

  • Easiest way to get epubs onto your Kindle:

But the problem is…where can I find place to download free EPUB??? Wink wink**

      • +1

        lib gen, whatever that means.

        • what is this russian wikileaks think you have directed me to??

        • Lib gen? Eh?

  • anyone tried the Remarkable? Looks like they're launching a new version (https://remarkable.com/store/remarkable-2) & online reviews seem to mostly complain about lack of SD card.

Apparently no major gripes re missing backlight - what Remarkable says about the backlight is the following (quote, https://support.remarkable.com/hc/en-us/articles/36000263439…):"Backlight
reMarkable does not come with a backlight. This means you need light in the room to read or use it, just like you would with paper. reMarkable is all about giving an excellent writing and sketching experience, and a backlight would make the surface layer thicker, something that would create more distance from the pen tip to the ink layer, which in turn would make the writing experience worse."

  • Received mine today…woop woop
