VDSL/ADSL Modem
The NETGEAR Broadband High-Speed DSL Modem provides a simple and cost-effective connection to high-speed VDSL/ADSL Internet. With Fast Ethernet connectivity, the NETGEAR DSL modem connects directly to the computer or wireless router. Compatible with major DSL Internet service providers and is incredibly easy to setup. Does not support AT&T U-verse, Verizon FiOS and Cable Internet providers. Does not support bonded VDSL/ADSL.

Also yes it works with NBN.

In fact it is one of the best NBN modem for this price range.

If you need help remember to call technical support with your internet provider to help guide you on how to set up

Review:

Having 3 wireless networks at home already, I opted for a simple modem to enable NBN connection at the lowest price. Don't use the setup wizard, just set it up manually and it works a treat. Took all of 5 minutes to get it working, dunno what everyone's issue is with this product.

Cheers

Please note this is a modem-only device and not an all-in-one (modem + router + switch + wireless access point) that you see everywhere else. It uses the Lantiq VRX220 (VR9) chip and is equipped with a single Fast Ethernet port only. It is only useful for ADSL and FTTN connections.

Here is a look at the back of the modem and its specs.

Here is a graphic to illustrate how you can connect it to your single computer or to your home network (via an additional router).

A list of some of its competitors.

It may arguably be one of the best NBN modem by virtue of the fact that its competitors are all-in-one devices.

If it truly has just a 10/100 port then its borderline useful for NBN given that we top out at 100/40. It may be useful in edge cases were businesses ONLY need one port and ONLY require that modem function but its a hard sell when other brands have Gbe, wireless and multiple ports for about the same money.

      • Where can you get a VDSL2 modem router with AC WiFi and Gigabit LAN ports for about $75?.

        That's more like about $150.

        • The VR300 is $92 dollars before cashback or discounts for instance:

          https://www.amazon.com.au/Tp-Link-Archer-Ac1200-Wireless-Rou…

Slightly more for a D7 with gigabit ethernet, but hardly $150.

          • @boredofficeworker: Yeah i used to have a VR300, suffice to say it was a piece of crap. Would constantly freeze up either or lose connection. It has a low end Mediatek chipset. That's the reason for that price.

Also the D7 is a router only, it does not have a modem.

            • @hollykryten: Entirely my bad, I'll admit I wasn't really looking too hard. I got a TP-link W9977 for $68, which has a Broadcom chipset with gigabit handoff, I had assumed they would have a similar option but looking now, it seems they don't. The VRR600 seems to be the cheapest model at about $130. Probably better off with a Vigor130 at that price.

  • How would this stack up against the following:

    Model: ZTE H268A
    Chipset: Broadcom BCM63168
    Firmware:
    RSP Providing: Exetel
    Features: AC1600, 4-port Gigabit, 1x USB2, 2x VoIP FXS
    Bridge Mode Available: Yes
    Street Price: No retail

    • If you can buy it. No retail means it's only sold through an ISP.

      • I know - Exetel gave it to me!

  • So it's basically a replacement modem if your free device from NBN is broken?

    • +1

Just note that it's only FTTN compatible on the NBN. It has no router function for other types of NBN.

And I hadn't seen NBN giving out free modems to FTTN customers.

    • If your nbn NTD is faulty call your ISP to get a replacement.

  • hi folks, i'm not a tech savvy and wondering if possible to check whether your home modem/router wifi is actually transmitting the optimal up/down load speed provided by the adsl/nbn provider?

I do know you can do test speed but does that really determine what your provider really offer?

I mean if you're using different premium branded modem and current free modem which given by provider. How to check if they're really any different at all.

Go into your modem configuration web page and find the DSL sync speeds.

does that really determine what your provider really offer?

The sync speed is what you "purchased" from your RSP. The actual transfer speed (as measured by a speedtest) is determined by how much bandwidth your RSP has purchased from nbnco and how many users are sharing that bandwidth. https://blog.jxeeno.com/nbn-dimension-based-cvc-explained/

For a given line, compare their DSL sync speeds.
