Mechpro Blue Trolley Jack 2000kg - MBGJ2000 - $99 + $9.90 Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Repco

40
  • 2000kg Working Load Limit
  • Height lowered: 130mm
  • Height raised: 465mm
  • 1 year Warranty
  • Gross Weight : 28.9kg

It is a good price for this unit and cheaper than a comparable offering by SCA at $119.99. In store they told me it is normally $199 but that was questionable as it is an introductory offer (new product).

  • Any good for a Ford Falcon sedan?

    • What year? Where are the jack points of your car?

      I bought it yesterday to get my Daihatsu Cuore up onto 290mm jack stands and with the rear 'jack point' being quite elevated already on the car it made it with 20-50mm to spare, the front is easy though.

      The 2000kg is enough but what height jack stands are you using?

      • Thanks. I will check my sca jack stands and car is 2011.

        • You can get your manual online;
          https://www.ford.com.au/owners/owner-manual/
          You would want to check your "General Info" or 'Maintenance' section for the 'jacking points'.

          Coarsely speaking you have a sedan and this jack should do it but I had bought a cheap (on special) SCA trolley jack that had a lifting range of 140-334mm for 1200KG (a lot smaller model than above) and it wasn't enough and I was using a hardwood timber block (90mm) to get that extra height and it kept moving around and slipped onto the jack stand. Where the jack point is in the rear driver 1/4 panel now has a 'crinkle' in it. Thus I bought this trolley jack and will sell the other.

          A good solid trolley jack and far better than those smaller units

  • I want to buy this but I'm worried the 'cup' is too deep and will be more problematic then those jacks with the shallow-er ones.
    For example jacking from the side of the car on the jack point to change a tyre might hit the body of the car.

    Anyone had this problem with the jack?

    • +1

      For the side jack points of a car I would use the standard scissor jacks that come with most cars to lift the vehicle for a wheel change only;
      https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/sca-sca-scissor-jack---1…
      I would not use a scissor jack for any other form of maintenance work on a car.

      A trolley jack is intended to use at the front (normally the engine frame) or the rear (transport hook);
      https://i.postimg.cc/wBRqdPQK/Capture.png
      to lift the car so you can then slide 'jack stands' under the points where you might also use a scissor jack;

      You use a trolley jack and jack stands for maintenance work like oil change, brake pad change, etc, etc, etc. I bought the above unit for it's height "465mm" so I could get my front and or rear up onto jack stands as I have just replaced the whole front brake assembly on my car and the suspension all around.

      It has a shallow cup and it replaced a SCA 1400KG trolley jack that had a far deeper cup and was not getting the height I needed to get it up on jack stands;
      https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/sca-sca-hydraulic-trolle…

      In summary only use the right tool for the right job - scissor jacks are fine to change a tyre only and can use and are designed for the side jack points of a car but they would not be safe to undertake any maintenance work with as if you had a tight nut/bolt and had to apply any reasonable leverage a scissor jack could collapse. A trolley jack is always intended to be used with jack stands and they all clearly state such on their packages/boxes.

      • Thanks mate, I understand what you're saying, it was just an example however. I've normally used the 'Blue Arcan' jack for some time which has a shallow cup and rubber for the centre - it is almost flat, similar to the supercheap jack.

        So I guess my concern was that the deep cup might cause binding issues in some cases which would make it less useful compared to https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/sca-sca-hydraulic-dual-p… - Your thoughts??

        I really want the Mechpro jack cause OzB makes it more tricky to spend the extra $20 on things when you can get it cheaper haha :')

        • I think the cup is the same as that unit - maybe pop into your local Repco and have a look? I did not find it overly deep compared to my previous SCA unit but I find the cup is a bit of a safety feature and if it was just a flat anything being jacked could slip/slide?
