  • Electricity + metal - what could possible go wrong!

    (I jest)

    • Looks to be on backorder (1-2 months)

    • Except they seem to have stuffed up and have the 6 port listed for $59 and the 6 port+usb for $44.

      • The 6port RCD is worth more than the 6port USB going by stanleys RRP pricing.

I think Officeworks have their descriptions and pictures mixed up..

        • Yeah, you're right. Looks like Officeworks are the ones who stuffed up.

        • I wonder if I order from OfficeWorks ($44) would I get the right one..?

  • Thanks OP

Curious how/why it would be double these prices.

Is there something about these boards that makes them worth the extra dollars over far cheaper generic boards?
Is it cos they have "real" surge protection capability?

    • +1

The Stanley Aluminium Powerboard is encased in heavy duty bumpers to shield it from falls and bumps and has IP44 rated plug covers to prevent water and dust-related damage. For your safety, its metre long cable is a highly visible yellow colour.

These are more for tradie usage, not fixed location. They can take a beating and are lightweight and waterproof.

The 6+2 USB also has a better surge protection device, that on its own costs more than some power boards.

Please don't start a debate about validity of surge protectors. I am writing that there is one there, and it has a cost. If you want it or need it or prefer it or not, that is different.

      • Seemed to me they weren't challenging the validity of surge protectors but were questioning the relative value of this featureset and price.

        • I know. That was a preemptive comment based on how a number of discussions on OzBargain posts have turned out regarding surge protectors.

I don't see any specs on how many joules it will take. The rcd though well be a lifesaver.

    • +1

Precisely what I was thinking. I also tried looking up the specs on other websites to no luck. There's no point in buying it if it offered something like 200 joules of protection.

    • If your power circuits are already RCD protected, which they should be, would there be any benefit in having RCD on the board as well?

      • You may be in a location (e.g. old house) where the circuit doesn't have RCD.

        • yeah, I get that, but no real benefit in doubling up on RCDs beyond if one should fail?

From my limited knowledge of electrical safety, the RCD on the power board, which might be a couple of meters away from your trip hazard will not offer any more protection than the one on your main switch board maybe 20 meters away as electrons do tend to move rather fast;)

Could be handy out of a generator or inverter I guess

@mauricem: I have had that style RCDs trip without tripping the main switchboard RCD.

  • Where are the usb ports? I got the one that says SXECAE48KBE on the box and that is the same as the entry on the officeworks site that says it has 2 usb ports?

I think they have the product code the wrong way around on the website and gave me the wrong one as a result. I got charged $59

    • Yep, OfficeWorks had it pretty screwed up. They had the wrong product code, but the correct Manufacturer Part Number.

Now they're screwed it up more, the manufacturer's part number is also incorrect.

They now show Product Number STAE48KBE and Part Number SXECAE48KBE for the $59 with USB, but it isn't.
and they show product code STAE49KBE and part number SXECAE49KBE for the $44 with no USB, but this product DOES have USB.

      I ordered a couple of STAE49KBE for $44.
