You gotta be kidding me!! I just finalised my Nov trip because I've waited for over 4 mths for special fares for my travel dates to no avail… And now this? Dammit! ><
I was getting pretty close to booking too cgs, the last several Oct-Nov seasons had crazy sale fares but nothing was coming up this year at all, looks like i might have held out long enough though, although 20% isn't anywhere as good as they're normal promo fares which used to be around 50% of their normal price.
To be fair, I got my OOL-KUL and KUL-MEL flights for Nov on super special (around $340 total incl 15kg baggage and card fees), hence having to book the rest of my travels within this period. That sale was from back in March though, before their fuel surcharge and counter check-in fees.

The Malaysian Gov. won't let them fly Syd-Kul, which totally blows because they're sort of the Virgin of SE Asia - Good service, modern/brand new planes and great prices.
now that Tony Fernandes got a management role and some shares in MAS, hopefully he can get the Malaysian govt to change the competition "blockade" to Australia and a few other destinations.

You can search on their website, based on your desitination and flight dates. This is a discount on regular prices, not a promotional fare.
You are right. There's basically no promo fares at all for popular routes in that period. Only useful if you MUST travel somewhere on those dates and have yet to book your tix.
As I mentioned previously, I waited over 4 mths for a promo fare on the route I want (KUL-SGN in Nov), but nothing came up. With this I could've saved $15 pp (A$80 vs A$95), but certainly no real bargains here if you are looking for the regular AA "sale" fares.
