Don't miss out on the trip of your life ;-)
Notice that some cruises now have Mystery Island/Location on their itineraries. Is it a new trend?

    • No, not new. Mystery Islands were/are part of the itineraries from a long time.

      • hi OP, just wondering what are the usual prices of these cruises?
im just wondering what the savings are.

      • Magellan circumnavigated 500 years ago, ain't no such thing as a mystery island

    • +6

Mystery Island is the name of an actual island in Vanuatu.

    • +3

Mystery Island is the name of an actual place. I have been there on a previous cruise.

    Coronaval's Great Cruise

Just got quoted $46.6 per night for four people (per person… DUH) on a 10 day cruise! DAMN!

Couldn't even eat out at three restaurants for that little in a day, let alone getting a room and bed provided as well with activities on top! If this was Brisbane I'd seriously try to organise a trip!

    • Cheap food, but it's a small room to be quarantined in. Freedom has a value.

Are all the islands accepting cruise ships now? Last I saw a lot of the islands were turning the ships away?
    https://www.cruisecritic.com.au/news/5048/

The move by Tonga follows the unprecedented decision by tribal chiefs to close the New Caledonian ports of Lifou, Mare and Isle of Pines two weeks ago.

Bloody dodgy if they're selling cruises to these islands if they know they cant actually go there?

    EDIT:
    https://www.newcaledonia.travel/au/coronavirus

    Coronavirus: situation for cruiseship passenger
    Nouméa: Stopover ok with restrictions
    Lifou: not stopping
    Maré: not stopping
    Isle of Pines: not stopping

I'm going to neg for the fact that the OP is promoting stops at locations the ships cant actually stop at, 100% false advertising ! …

    • +2

agree. I contacted P&O about this and the fact that it was false advertising knowingly putting closed ports on their itineraries. Where are they going to go instead?
The worst thing is the terms and conditions basically state they can change itinerary willy nilly and you have no recourse. So it could head to Tasmania and New Zealand where you can go and freeze your butt off…

They confirmed that one of them had been diverted to NZ…

      Hi,

We can't confirm the news posted here but definitely say we haven't heard anything like this from the cruise lines. You can check the New Caledonia Ports Cruise Ships Schedules 2020 here: https://crew-center.com/new-caledonia-ports-cruise-ships-sch…

      • +3

P&O confirmed the islands listed are closed to cruise ships and no tenders will be allowed

A schedule is very different to actual events

P&O stated "we are working closely with the community leaders of the Islands and we hope this will only be a temporary close."

Using your link, the "Voyager of The Seas" should be visiting Lifou today, and Isle of Pines tomorrow, guess where it is? not there…

It's currently sitting in TAURANGA, NEW ZEALAND !
        https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/VOYAGER-OF-THE-SEAS-IMO…

The only New Caledonia port it could visit was Noumea it appears… so I guess it went Sydney, days at sea just to visit Noumea, then days at sea to go sit in one NZ port, then I assume it will just cruise back to Sydney….

Edit: more up to date location, northern NZ:
        https://www.cruisemapper.com/?imo=9161716
(the list at the left is the itinerary, not ports it's actually visited)

        • The itinerary isn't guaranteed.

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: and that's fine… What bugs me is this agent is actively promoting locations he damn well knows the cruise ships cant visit, it's deceptive, how about being open and honest about it…

If they honestly do not know all those islands are closed they are obviously VERY poor at their job and they should probably be packing shelves at Coles, or flipping burgers at Maccas..

            • +1

@FLICKIT: Agree but also feel the cruise companies should be more transparent as they have no power to change the current situation

It’s like me saying I’m selling flights to the moon.
We’re not flying there yet but we did once before!

      • +3

Just returned from 9 day cruise on Carnival Splendor. Stopped at Moreton Island (unsuccessfully as too unsafe due to swell) to board shuttle boats) in lieu of Isle of Pines. 100% was not allowed to stop there, so should not advertise that it is. Only stopped at Noumea.

        • Thanks for that - did they offer any compensation or option to cancel?
What was the original itinerary and what did it turn into?

      • +1

Probably time to drop the 'guru' moniker then if you don't have up to date accurate information on ports open/closed status.

  • Does anyone know what is included in the price apart from room? Food drinks and activities???

    • Hi,

Food is included in the fare but guests have to pay for specialty restaurants and drinks. All the onboard entertainment and shows are included in the fare.

      Thanks,
      Cruise Guru Team

    negging for misleading advertising.

Definitely not the time to book a cruise: https://www.cruisemapper.com/news/bytag/norovirus

  • yes I'm on board!

  • If I were a passenger and they don't stop at the ports as promised and changed the destinations willy nilly, I'm going to start a mutiny and made the captain to walk the plank!
