Devicedeal currently has many of the Arlo security cameras on special - seems their best deal is for the Arlo Ultra 4k - 3 cameras and hub pack. I can't be certain, but I believe that these are Australian stock and not grey imports. Arlo lists Devicedeal as an official stockist on the Australian Arlo website, so I take that to mean they are not imports. Anyway as I was passing by a Jb Hi-Fi I asked if they would price match it (thinking they would laugh at me) and they said no problem. Their current price is $1499 and I took it home for $1059, so pretty happy with that saving!

What makes these better than non branded stuff? Worth the extra cost?
No, poor quality. I've just replaced with Reolink ones for a fraction of the cost and wayyyy better
I’ve got a Reolink Argus 2 now and have had Arlo Pro 2 in the past; would gladly go back to the Pro 2 (only changed as we moved house).
Arlo has a way better FPS (think it’s 60 to Reolink’s 30) and just seems to be more intuitive IMO.
Plus, the Reolink siren sucks…it’s like a cat meowing.
Really? The app is better for the arlo but the picture quality (particularly at night) was woeful.
Mated the Reolink with a Synology NAS Software and I'm very impressed.
@Yorkshire-Man: To be fair I agree, the night vision on the Argus 2 is great. It’s just the FPS are so crap that it looks jerky and I’m not sure the sensor picks up everything, even on the highest sensitivity.
@LittleTicket: Hmmmm, I use 3rd party software on the Synology to manage the sensitivity. I have to dial mine down to stop it, it records too much.
Compared to the Arlo the picture quality is a dream for me :)
@Yorkshire-Man: Is there a package for Reolink on the Synology? Or did you just record to the Synology?
@aragornelessar: This one, included with the NAS. Free for 2 cameras, then you buy lifetime licences for around $70 per camera.
@Yorkshire-Man: Cheers mate - I've been looking into something that'll hook into Synology. Mine's a getting old in the legs from 2012 though so I might be limited in what options I've got
@aragornelessar: Happy to help, lots of good guides on youtube. Its compatible with most cameras on the market, I hardwired the house for POE so the cameras are just a cheap upgrade as they improve !
Catch the bustards
How about the battery? I give up Arlo due to terrible battery problem, and give a try on Amazon with similar functions camera under $100 dollars each. Better resolution and much easy to setup. Use for few months, no problem. $1000 for 3 wireless camera and need to buy subscriptions for video storage, that’s insane.
Details or link to what you ended up buying please
Ended up buying the Arlo Ultra 4K UHD Wire-Free Security Camera System – 3 Cameras & Smart Hub from JB Hi-Fi for $1059 https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/arlo-ultra-4k-uhd-wire-fr…
I think dngo was asking Terrence about his purchase…
Yes, would be interested to hear what you bought also. Cheers
these here are 4K, you are saying you got >4K resolution cameras for <$100?
What gets me with the 4k system is you pay mega bucks to buy it then apparently have no choice but to carry on paying for a monthly subscription if you want to store in the cloud
Unfreaking believable
Nothing against DeviceDeal. Just this 4k ripoff by Arlo
Not sure about the new ones, but the Arlo Pro lets you stick a USB stick into the base station for recording as much as you want.
I don't pay subscription as I dont need to keep videos of the delivery man for more than a week :)You can’t view this videos on the app with the pro 3 and 4K, all you can do is live stream without the subscription.
Apparently they are working on allowing viewing access from the stored USB via the app but at present you’d have to remove the USB and put in a computer to watch any videos.
The pro 1/2 have 1 week free cloud storage for the mail man
Thats really annoying they have removed that function!
I've got the Eufy 2c's. It saves the video to the homebase 2 (16gb) and streams it when you're viewing remotely. You have the option of downloading to your device. This is without the need of a subscription.
We've only got a couple of the cameras set up on the weekend so still testing the system out.
The Ultra's have switched to that now as well (SD card) but you can only view it when at home on the same network. So if you get a notification for something and you don't catch it as its happening then you have no way to know what happened until you get home. I was paying the monthly fee for the Ultra but after having multiple issues with delays, videos not being recorded/stored, no notifications etc I cancelled that.
I definitely wouldn't recommend Arlo for the price they are. Anyone in Canberra want a 3 camera ultra system for less then this? :)
I’d suspect a lot of these issues could be from the slow internet from your home?
Streaming 1080p from the device is laggy enough, let alone 4K which could be overkill for most people’s internet unless you’re on NBN or 5G
Not really, we are on NBN. There are no issues with connecting to the camera (except for one on the garage side). The issue is Arlo processes the 'smarts' for notifications through the cloud so it needs to see a movement, process what it needs to do for that movement e.g record, send notification etc. By the time that notification gets to you 9 times out of 10 the event has occurred and you are looking at nothing on the cameras.
I have had many times where I get no notifications at all and no recording. I can look at my camera live to find a package delivered that I am waiting on. No notification or recording of someone pulling up on the front lawn, getting out of the car and leaving a package. I wasn't going to keep paying for a sub par system. My old Swann system used to work flawlessly even if the camera quality wasn't great and their app was from the stone age.
Exact same as my experience. Switching to POE cameras that can record 24/7
Arlo is OK for a CCTV type recording system but if you want instant notifications and instant camera view, look somewhere else. I think the servers are located in US region so regardless of your internet speed by the time the app finally shows the video, the event is over and the person is gone. It takes close to a minute at times to open app, wait for it to load the cameras and then for it to show a live view. For comparison my ring door bell takes 5 seconds tops.
Don't forget shopback to get an additional $28.59 in cashback (bringing it down further to $1,030.41).
