When I went to red rooster about 5 years ago their chips were soggy but these days their crunchy and yummy. Good Deal.

    • +3

I think it depends more on the store. Had everything there from excellent chips to something looking like potato and gravy but called chips

    • +4

Yer I’ve only ever had soggy chips from RR but it’s been awhile since I’ve been.

In regards to soggy chips, I haven’t had decent chips from KFC either in many many moons not matter where I go. They are not crunchy at all and are soggy

      • +10

Where can i read more about your chip reviews?

    • -3

Ewww dude. That's gross man. You really should have thrown those chips out after 5 years. That CANNOT be good for your health.

      • +2

Well it looks like that joke fell flat. Sorry bud, tough crowd.

        • +1

Yeah. Clearly just for me. I was laughing very much when I hit submit. Even proudly shared it with my wife. She wasn't enthusiastic, that should have been my first red flag. I never raised it with her again when I saw they weren't buying what I was selling. But totally worth it to converse with you though. Keep on keeping on. Thanks for encouragement. haha.

          • +1

@seamonkey: No probs mate. You gave it your best which is better than not trying at all. Better luck next time!

    • Good old soggy chips from red rooster

    • +2

ngl I prefer soggy chips over crunchy chips haha

      • Than just order potato and gravy instead. Pretty much the same as soggy chips

      • lol

      • -2

They are also much preferable to a soggy sao.

  • +12

i find that supermarket roast chooks can't quite compare with red rooster or chicken treat

    • +2

Chicken treat!! Best thing about W.A

      • +1

        Rotisserie>oven

        • Is there an expiry date?

  • I question the purpose of red rooster. The chickens are approx triple the price of purchasing from the supermarket. The burgers are unremarkable compared to other fast food chains. What is their niche?

    • +16

They sell roosters, not chickens… duh

    • I've always thought that "Red Rooster", formally, "Big Rooster", was percieved as the "local, /Australian/ takeaway"

    • +2

Think of Walter White and his carwash…

    • +15

$8-10 for a cooked chicken from Coles/WW. What crack are you smoking that RR is 3 times that? 😂

    • +3

People can say “I’m going to red rooters”
      “Gettin red rooters”

      and people enjoy that.

    • +4

You’re right, their food is sub par at best, I’ve ordered tenders in the past multiple times and they’ve been cold inside, like not even prepared out of the fridge/freezer correctly. Probably a store issue, but even then the menu in general is lacklustre.

Rooster roles are terrible, burgers are bland and don’t compare to other chicken chains. I’m surprised they’re still in business and attract customers.

      • +3

I thought I was the only one. Tried them a couple times and utterly horrible food. No idea how they're so popular compared to supermarkets and Nandos/Oporto.

        • They also closing stores down… They running away like chickens

        • I think Super Chicken / Red Rooster came on the scene in 70's and sustained outstanding sales for a few decades. Original owners and ambitious management who really knew how to run stores, have long gone. Still, the chips are good, always ask for fresh crispy chips.

    • Ive had some of their burgers from the relaunched menu, the quality of their ingredients has been lifted a lot. Dunno how they did it and kept prices decent.

    • +1

      Those supermarket chickens are dreadful

    • +2

All fast food chain burgers are unremarkable.

Personally, it's the gravy. It's not even good gravy, but dipping a burger in it makes a better burger. Chips, obviously. Whatever random bits come in their packs, in the gravy. Hell, I've even dunked a pineapple fritter in there - the salt and sweetness wasn't too horrible really.

Also hard to find fast food roast chicken. Coles doesn't sell gravy and hot chips. KFC everything is deep fried. Charcoal chicken places are all in the suburbs. In Melbourne, I'm not even sure Oporto exists outside of a couple of food courts and Nandos is far too expensive. My usual lunch these days is a quarter chicken and a salad pack from Woolworths, but it's not as good as red rooster chicken.

  • +1

The $5 Sub lunch is quite good too

  • +12

Is it just me or is the chicken in their logo mooning you?

    • +16

Well it is now thanks to you. Lol

      • +4

        Can’t unsee lol

  • -5

Did you know you can store any chicken and chip leftovers in your Kogan Hyundai air-conditioner for up to a week. And they said these units were useless. Boy are you lot embarrassed now.

    • +4

      Stay off the drugs

  • is it deal for dinner only?

  • enlighten me please. does cbf stand for can't be f&cked?

    • +13

Yes, that acronym has been in use for at least two decades now.

      • At least 3 decades and probably more

      • I haven't encountered it until yesterday! but my deductive skills saw me safely

      • Woman at work was talking about how she said she had a case of the cbf's to her teenage daughter. Teenager rolled her eyes and said "mum, no one says cbf anymore, it's ceebs".

That's how old cbf is, teenagers are mutilating it.

  • I got half frozen nuggets from Red Rooster once.

    • +1

Always look on the bright side of life - they were half cooked.

  • +4

Nothing like a store microwaved rooster roll - I know it's terrible but I keep going back.

    • I can't believe how good they are considering they are microwaved haha!

    • Indeed, slam some cheese in there, even better!

  • cbf?

    • +5

      Chicken before friends

      • chicken brings friends

    • Couldn’t be f’d

  • Is there an expiry date??

    • Yep, 18/2/20.

  • my local store go nuts with the salt and/or msg, yuck.

  • -2

    I wouldn't touch the gravy.

  • Just had lunch sub yesterday and their gravy is more than mashed potato, could not eat it

  • Those in ACT who aren't near a Red rooster can get the same thing (roast chicken, large chips + gravy) for $16.90 at Kingsley's as their normal price.. far superior as well ;)

  • $9 woolies

    • +1

You're overpaying, cheaper at Costco (with a friend's membership)

      • Just had rr chicken today… Costco roast chickens win hands down

  • Fat Chook is much better

  • -4

RR is is biggest ripoff in the fast food industry. Yucky soggy chips any day. Do not post the shit deals from RR to waste people time

  • Ordered through the app once, got a message it will be 30 minutes. 45 minutes later nothing. Called the store….. they said they were busy and didn't even start my order!!!

I told them to prepare it right now and I will come in 15 minutes to get it. Came by the store, 2nd in line, waited another 15 minutes for my order cause something about the chicken.

I had to wait around 1.5 hours for my food and I had to pick it up myself.

It wasn't even a huge order, it was a burger meal. Burger, chips and a drink.

Good deal for anyone that can put up with them.

  • Don't get the reason for the gravy, are people slathering the chicken with it? It's way too much for a handful of chips, if they have mash and gravy that would be way better, even if you have to chip in a couple of bucks.

  • i use the gravy as a drink to slam down after a handful of chips.. wouldnt mind eating this right now.. fml

  • Offer not showing in app?
The app is a pile of shit by the way. Every time I go into it, I have to login again.

  • Just received an email to say its in its last week (finishing 18th Feb).
