Are you still living in 2010?

        • +6

You simply cannot compare this with what's being offered here lol.

        • -1

maybe that's why they (mostly) went out of business here

          • -3

@shmahoo: Tbh it was probably bc most of their menu was priced more inline with these overpriced dudes.

          • @shmahoo: it's probably due to their quality going down the drain. People are prepared to pay high prices for good quality food, which R&B was not providing.

    • +6

Bro a cheeseburger at McDonald's is more than $5 normally.

      • -6

Maccas is garbage, but a cheesy is at least less than 5. Hell, a kids meal with a cheesy, chips, coke and a lil toy is usually around 5 bucks.

        • +4

You can get 2 cheeseburgers, chips and a coke from Macca's for $6.95 too. Doesn't change the fact a single cheeseburger costs over $5.

I can guarantee you that the skyrocketing rates over the last 5-6 years amongst food, electricity, corporate rent, insurance, fuel/logistics, maintenance, minimum wage etc have left businesses no choice but to raise their prices.. they didn't just "not remember to be cheap" lmao.

This is why basic economics and finance should be mandatory in school.

          • -5

            @pennypincher98: Jesus Christ, 5.15, that's (profanity) mental.

I get that prices go up, I get it all, 15 dollars for a burger without even chips on the side is (profanity) regardless of inflation (maybe not so in 50 years lol). When I go to my local burger guy (and I do) and he wants 16/20 bucks for most of his burgers, I get it. When you've got a chain, it's meant to be streamlined, it's meant to increase your buying power (and thus decrease your cost/overhead), it's the IGA principle, which itself is basic economics and finance but you group together, you buy more, you get bulk rate, you pass that onto the customer, win win win.

15 bucks for a burger is insane. And if it's a shit burger, then what? I've spent 15 bucks on a burger I can't get back. If your 7 buck Maccas double burger meal is shit, you can buy another one and still have change compared to this single burger.

            • +2

@TheDukeOfNukem: Hahaha the fact you used IGA - their prices are ridiculous compared to the competition. And that’s before you venture to one outside of a major metro. Ask the people of Cobar how good the pricing is at either IGA … (which they let one person have both and monopolise the market - good old ‘independent’)

              • -3

@BLB1984: It's why IGA shouldn't be in built up areas, but in country towns, where you've got a general store or two and the actual amount of stock of things is severely limited, they're brilliant. Would I go to an IGA when a Coles is next door? No. But then again, would I pay 15 bucks for a burger when HJs is next door? Also nope.

                • @TheDukeOfNukem: See my comment about Cobar as retort to your country towns recommendation. People in cities complain about the duopoly issue - they’ve no idea when someone has a monopoly. You have residents who will literally drive 6-7 hours return once or twice a month to go get groceries at a better price

                  • -2

@BLB1984: Believe me, I know. I grew up in Drouin like 20 some odd years ago and knew a bird who would drive all the way to Ferntree Gully for Aldi alone. I know people in Tassie who every fortnight have to go and make a multi hour trip for their groceries.

Cobar man sounds like a douche. There's douches everywhere unfortunately. He can survive because he has the monopoly. This burger joint will never survive without being competitive, or operating exclusively in towns with no other burger joints.

                    • @TheDukeOfNukem: I don’t think Aldi was in Australia 20 years ago.

                      • +1

@sween64: First store in Aust was Jan 2001

                        • @Monty01: TIL thanks.

                          Also,

Aldi expanded quickly. By mid-2003 it had 38 stores in New South Wales and six in Victoria. By 2011, it had 251 stores. By early 2013, more than 280, and had expanded to Canberra.

The IGA principle "group together, you buy more, you get bulk rate, you pass that onto the customer, win win win."

The IGA principle is Independence. It's in the name. They can charge whatever, stock whatever and open whenever because the stores are independently owned.

If your 7 buck Maccas double burger meal is shit, you can buy another one and still have change compared to this single burger.

If it was shit, why would I want another one?

And if it's a shit burger, then what? I've spent 15 bucks on a burger I can't get back.

No, you've spent $5. The deal is the $5, not the $15… If you like the $5 burger so much you want to pay $15 go for it but nothing here is forcing you to.

But then again, would I pay 15 bucks for a burger when HJs is next door?

HJ has $15 burgers too btw. Just FYI. If you want to talk about ridiculous pricing, the fact fast food costs as much as a burger restaurant is insane.

Crazy, and here I was thinking when I looked at an IGA catalogue I could go into any IGA and buy the stuff in it for the price it says.

If it was shit, why would I want another one?

I don't know really, but you could afford to give them another chance. At 15 bucks they need to be their best foot forward every single time and based on a few comments on here, doesn't seem you'll get it.

The kind of people who pay 15 for a burger from a chain are the kind of people who wouldn't bother to do all this to save $10.

Their fancy top of the line burgers, not their basic bitch standard cheeseburger, which is around 2 or 3 bucks, as it should be.

You do realise IGA catalogue depends on store right… They don't have a one size fits all like Coles does, because they are not all owned by Coles…

The kind of people who pay 15 for a burger from a chain are the kind of people who wouldn't bother to do all this to save $10.

The general folk sure, but this is Ozbargain where people are going to grab their $5 burger and not pay $15.

Their fancy top of the line burgers

Lol a "fancy" whopper is still a whopper. It still is crudely slapped together by a 15yr old with the same shitty patties.

    • Some very interesting discussions here. I can understand both sides of the debate.

$15.90 does indeed seem like a lot for just one burger.

On the other hand, there's the cost of living crisis.

It's come to a point where I make my own lunch now: loaf of bread (garlic and olive oil bread from Woolies), cheese slices (Coles home brand), and ham from the local butcher (300g), works out to a total of $30. Lasts me about 7 days, so that's ~$4.29 spend a day on lunch.

It doesn't sound like much of a lunch but I do go on training rides on my bicycle almost every day and the lunch sustains me.

      • +1

Making your own lunch has always been cheaper than eating out. It's only that people are noticing it more now, especially as prices rise.

$15.90 for a burger may be justifiable if it's the highest quality beef, good cheese, quality vegetables, etc. I would also add that anyone complaining about the cost of living really shouldn't buy one on a regular basis.

        • I find it interesting that bringing your own lunch is almost novel. I would've thought it was the norm given this is ozbargain. Been doing it for decades.

  • Used to frequent the one in Northcote Plaza :’)

    • Cheese burger at the place that replaced it is $18 (with chips). i’ve never eaten there though!

  • +2

Cheers bought 15, going to feed the whole family tonight on a budget.

  • +1

Are people ordering multiple burgers? Only coming up with x1 $10 discount for me so if you add 2 or more its RRP for any burger on top of the original single order. Will it work if i make multiple single burger orders?

    • +3

I tried, same result so only ordered one.
It seems it's tied to a phone number too so basically 1 x $5 burger per phone number

      • How did others get 15 burgers then? 15 different orders/numbers?

        • He's joking. It's a common Ozbargain joke format.
"Thanks! I got X amount, I'm going to do X with it."

        • It's making fun of people who get unnecessary amounts of something from a deal just because it's cheap then coming up with ridiculous ways to use it.

  • Where I live I'm always at a distance disadvantage compared to other suburbs, but this time it seems that all suburbs in SA are about the same distance from here.

    Finally feeling equal.

How’s the food here nowadays ? Had back in 2017

  • +1

Does the burger taste any good?
I find B&R quality inconsistent. Last burger I had from there was very dry with minimal amount of sauce.

    • The crispy chicken is my favourite from here. It's good. Don't usually have the other ones, can't say.

  • I prefer the Black Stump.

  • Thanks OP. Dinner sorted tomorrow.
$20 for burger + small porks ribs and chips ($15 meal add on)

    • +1

Use the code RIBS990 for $9.90 a discount on the small pork ribs and chips combo. Not sure if it will work on the same mobile number order. Let us know how you go

  • +3

Ribs & Burgers are also offering their Small Slow Cooked Ribs Combo for $9.90. This includes a small rack of ribs with chips or cabbage salad. Good time to go for a feed!

  • Is this for pick up or dine in?

  • Says not available when i try to add it to cart

    • +2

Try again when your store is open

    • +2

You must go to the store and scan the QR code to dine in. Then you could use the code during checkout.

There's an extra 50-cent fee per order.

  • +1

According to the restaurant, there’s a minimum order requirement of $25. I decided to give it a try for the first time, but unfortunately, I won’t be going back.

I ordered a cheeseburger for $15.90, with an add-on ribs + chips for an extra $15, and used the NEWBIE5 code, which gave a discount of $10.90. However, there was also a small $0.50 charge for ordering online. In the end, my total came to $20.50.

I was also considering the slow-cooked small ribs combo option for $19.90 (select an apple salad option) and adding small chips for an extra $5.90, by using RIBS990, there's a $10 discount (and the extra $0.50 charge for online orders). That would bring the total to $16.30. For just a $4.20 difference, I’d much rather enjoy the cheeseburger!

Alas, neither met my expectations, and I think I’d prefer the 50% IKEA Family deal instead!

  • It's a little on the small side but worth $5. Not worth the normal price of $15.90 though. I had the original cheese burger.

  • In the fine print …. burger may be smaller than indicated in the image

  • Margot: A real cheeseburger. Not some fancy, deconstructed, affluent bullshit, a real cheeseburger.
Chef Slowik: I'll make you a very good, very traditional cheeseburger.

  • When clicking the link in the post, it says not available. Seems I can't order it any more?

    • +1

Someone has added the link to Bella Vista store which is not currently taking digital orders.

Change the location and try again

Ordered from The Rocks. Burger reasonably sized compared to most other options, $5 plus the surcharge. Good deal, thanks OP.

  • Never noticed it before. The mark ups from this place on the delivery apps is the highest I've ever seen.

50% for the small ribs combo. In store 19.90 29.90 on delivery apps.

  • +3

I brought my bag of phones there and ordered Burgers / ribs from each phone

    This was a fantastic feed

I highly recommend the ribs, they are small but hands down one of the best ribs I've tasted in a long time. Very juicy succulent, nice char flavour and not drowned in BBQ sauce like the others
Cheeseburger is great too (the patty was way better than Betty's Burgers) but the ribs were on a another level entirely

Chicken Burger was OK. Not terrible but nothing to shout at

If you have to pick get the ribs, small but very nice. Also get the vanilla malt shake, very thick and nice horlick taste to it

    Ate at the Rocks.

Would go again a couple more times if the coupon allowed for the sale mobile number

    Great find OP!

What is the point to announce the discount without specifying the one single store somewhere which is most likely not applicable for 99% of target audience?

      • The deal is available at all of their stores.
The comment you replied to is just pointing out that the link itself in the deal is set at a specific store. You need to confirm that you're ordering at the right place for you.
        Not for interstate pick-up 😉

  • Is this deal better than the $9.90 burger?

    • Is the code for the $9.90 one working?

  • Don’t think this code is working either.. unless it’s disabled for Friday night

    • +2

The deal now requires a minimum spend of $20. They've just updated their deal on their Facebook ad.

A shame they changed it cause I was hoping to finally go tomorrow!
