This is from Ring direct and comes with a free solar charger mount. Free delivery for eBay Plus members too. PLUTO100 would bring it down to $119 too.

    • Wow that actually a pretty sweet deal :P

      • Might post it actually!

Just an FYI, please investigate the recent issues surrounding Ring doorbells before making a purchase.

They're currently quite susceptible to being hacked, and the recorded footage can be accessed indefinitely by Amazon/Police forces.

"Police officers who access video footage from Amazon's Ring doorbell cameras can keep those videos forever and share them with anyone, even if the video includes no evidence of a crime, Amazon told a senator earlier this month." - Nov 2019

You wouldn't know any more secure video doorbells on the market would you?
Everything I've found seems to go through some 3rd party and I'd need to set up my own solution to get away from the issues you've noted.

Not really, never bothered because of security concerns. My personal opinion is you can't be sure unless you do it yourself. I figure people have two choices…

1: Off-the-shelf. Use Ring etc. but enable 2FA (and new password) to dissuade hacking. Don't buy the $3/MTH cloud storage, just use it as a camera doorbell and take screenshots with your phone.

If you wanted to get complex/extra safe, you can run your network through a VPN and block the doorbell from internet.

2: Do-it-yourself. I personally have a generic low-power Bluetooth button (does like 50k presses off a watch battery), so I can just stick that on the door as a doorbell.

Pressing it triggers my server, which pushes a notification to my phone, chimes and turns on/starts recording with the cameras. I can hook any other actions I want to it too, so at night time it turns on the external lights.

I've been looking at setting up a speaker too, so I can talk to whoever rings, mainly so I can tell the postie where to leave my Ozbargains lol.

        • Legend, unsure why I never thought about a bluetooth button..

I might just stick a Raspberry Pi somewhere and run of all from there, cheers for the inspiration!

  • Can anyone confirm if this can actually sound the doorbell on a google home? I know video isn’t supported but is a simple chime?

  • I think most people buying this Ring Video Doorbell think it is actually makes bell sound. You will get an alert on the phone but you will still need to purchase a ring chime which is separate.

    • oh you can use an Amazon Echo device and have it announce someone is at the door
