Copy-paste from the website.

To earn up to 40,000 Qantas Points you need to register for the offer, then load foreign currency to your Qantas Travel Money card.1

Here’s how it works: To register complete the form and then load your funds directly in foreign currency to earn bonus points.

Load amount: (AUD amount in equivalent foreign currency) Qantas Points (per dollar loaded)
$2,000 - $4,999 0.75
$5,000 - $8,999 1
$9,000 - $20,000 2
The points earning doesn’t stop there. You’ll keep earning while you’re away with 1.5 Qantas Points for every AU$1 spent on foreign currency on eligible purchases.
Offer ends 23 December 2019

  • What does it usually cost?

  • I guess the 40,000 point question is once youve loaded, can you withdraw back in AUD without fees?

    • *you’ve.

    • There are no fees, just 3% one way and 3% the other so put $1 AUD in (any foreign currency) and you will get 94 cents back in AUD.

      • ok so depositing aud and withdrawing aud will cost you 3%

so on 20k, you get 40,000 pts at a cost of $600

        • 6% not 3%

Deposit in AUD does not cost anything but then earn no points. To earn points, it needs to be foreign currency, that is where exchange rate works in Qantas favour.

          • @z28: So thats a loss of cost of $1200 for 20000 points? ooft.

    • "Cash out leftover funds to your Australian bank account"

im assuming its converted back from foreign to aus currency, thus youd lose minimum 3%

  • +5

Terrible exchange rates, wouldn't touch these with a barge pole, just use ING, Citi Debit cards … quite a few options out there.

    • Citi debit cards aren't as useful anymore as their ATM network seems to be shrinking. But definitely recommend a good travel credit card like 28degrees.

This is about Qantas Travel Money, which is a debit card not credit card, so let's stay focused here.

        • if not city than macquarie maybe, coz w Ing you got to deposit $1000 plus make 5 transactions to be eligible ? no such requirements w city or macq or are they? yes w Ing they refund you fee on top but you still get fee free on AU side, what other differences? :) thanks

  • Never spend money on points unless it's the discounted credit card annual fee.
