    What's in the filter? Carbon just like every other filter?

    Just get a brita and then the substitute filters on ebay. A fraction of thr price of this and the same result.

    Even in Sydney I think using a filter makes the water taste good. Particularly if it's been sitting there an hour or two.

          No. The Brita filter, and most other filters, have similar coconut / carbon but worse second stage (ion exchange) filtering. Most of these only get copper, zinc, cadmium. Per Matt2018's post below you will see this filter gets rid of a host of others (lead, mercury etc.)
