Seems nice, good specs for productivity + medium gaming without looking like a kiddy gaming laptop.
Especially since it seems to have Thunderbolt.
A feature that's often hard to find and confirm when searching for laptops. I've just ordered it for this reason, need the connectivity for work (often need to data wrangle from Thunderbolt drives) and has the bonus of an optional eGPU down the road.
Can you confirm the issue with loud fan to be a thing of the past?
thing of the past with the inspiron… i assume it's the same with the vostro
it gets loud if you push itI reapplied the thermal paste and put a -0.170 undervolt
if I select optimized in dell power manager, the fans are off most of the time while browsing the webvideo card is limited to 75 degrees in bios… but i think there's a way to bypass that and extend it to 87
Yep I bought this exact unit a couple months ago and with the new bios update the fans are nice and quiet with normal use. They can still get loud with heavy use. I haven't done any undervolting or anything.
Weight? It says "From 1.85kg". Does it tend to be heavier?
should be a bit heavier with the 97wh battery. still under 2kg most likely
How does this compares to a stock Alpha-X NH58RC currently @ $1,599?
source: https://www.metabox.com.au/store/b269/Metabox-Alpha-X-NH58RC…
the metabox is much better for gaming
the dell:
- has a nicer built quality (aluminium chassis)
- has longer battery life
- is lighter
- has thunderbolt 3 portif you are a gamer and don't care about the other features, get the metabox
Black Friday is 8 weeks away, should I wait?
