If I didn't get an OLED, I would have got this…

    • +5

Besides the risk of burn-in the oled is better in every way isnt it?

      • -6

It’s not a risk (implying chance) if it’s certain.

        • +5

          I have a 4 year old OLED without burn-in..

          • @Ryballs: i think its less of an issue with TVs seeing as they dont have the same persistent images like notification bar, home buttons etc. have you noticed the whites becoming slightly yellow at all ryballs? - i don't have an oled tv but wish i did, and whites going off is the one thing that is quite apparent on my phone screen

            • @DeToxin: My early gen 1080p OLED TV almost got HUD burn-in after playing too much Overwatch. Luckily after I stopped playing for a while, it eventually went away. The latest gen OLED are much more resilient than mine though, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Despite being 1080p, the picture still looks stunning. I reckon resolution is overrated, contrast/dynamic range is where it's at ;)

              • @Ryballs: Agreed, I would be happy a 1080p model, plus my PC isn't up to 4k anyway 😅

              • @Ryballs: lol its been shown burn in depends on wat u watch. pure movies will never burn in. sports guarantee burn in.

      • I bought the sony 75kd9400e 2018, cant stand the washed out pics, poor viewing angle, and blooming. Returned it after 6mos, and bought pana oled and never looked back.

        • +8

How do you return a telly after 6 months?!

        • Congrats on buying a Panny OLED … by far the best OLED televisions.

        • Ive got the 9400e… love it.

          • @chookpoo: Oh dont get me wrong. Its a nice tele, its just not for me. Being so used to pana plasma, cant ignore the blooming and low contrast(LCD problem). I miss the 75" compsred to my 65" oled.but personally, id rather better contrast, no blloming, better viewing angle than 75" byt having those issues.

            • @Mark365: I also come from a pan 65st60… I see the tvs shortcomings for sure… but i burnt in the plasma playing way too much overwatch, and wanted something bigger. Sometimes i turn off HDR on content because of the blooming… and i use bias lighting at night.

The thing is, I only payed $1800 for mine from a guy who purchased it for a home theatre then upgraded to a projector 6 months later…

              • @chookpoo: Does Oled have a better picture… Yep. youve got to be straight on with lcd or it looks like absolute crap.

              • @chookpoo: Mybe im just too fussy. Yeah i used to do that as well, turn off the hdr as it helps decrease the blooming. But with my oled i just realized how much good hdr is, so u kinda missing out. At least thats how i feel. I also bought a colorimeter and calibrated the tv, n thought i got it really close to prof level calibration after numerous hours of fiddling but still the contrast is not plasma standard and i cant ignore the blooming.
Wow thats a good price, if it was me then ill be fine withe blooming. I paid 5k, it was display with 300hrs usage. Costco wouldn't go any lower and it was the last stock. So i bit the bullet, but then thought that it wasnt worthy paying 5k for what i was getting.
I had a good deal with my oled 65, paid 2300. So really happ with the pic, but of course i miss yhe 75. So fingers crossed, hisense dual panel will come down here and contrast as good as oled and colors as good as qled as they adevertise.

              • @chookpoo: Btw my 55vt30 plasma had some burn in after using it as computer monitor, but didnt really bother me the burn in as i cant see it when watching any movies or tv prpgrams.
Ive read lots of reviews rw oled and the burn in, hopefully i wont get any burn in with my oled as they said as long as u look after it it should be ok.

                • @Mark365: Yes.. will be interesting to see the hisense dual panel…. I imagine it will be a beast on power usage… imagine how bright its going to have to be to push 1000 nits through 2 panels… the micro led TCL's could be of interest as well…

No regrets… just enjoy your display… there's always going to be something better.

Can't beat that contrast! The risk of burn in only exists if you watch a static image for hours and hours on end.
Regardless, LG has a Pixel Refresher that auto runs and you can manually run which helps unify the panel and keep it clean. I have never had to do this with my LG C8, but apparently it works very well.

        • Yeah it appears contrast is my no1 priority. Coming from pana plasma, i cant go back to low contrast tele. Although im curious how the dual panel monitors will perform. Promised high contrast, bigger screen, cheaper than oled, better colors, brighter screen. Sounds like perfect tele.

but its the fact that burn in can happen worries people. he got lucky it was overnight, imagine it was over the weekend where you are away. point is you have to baby sit OLED and can't get a peace of mind. Lets hope MicroLED doesn't have that issue!

      • Except you can't (couldn't?) get OLEDs greater then 65".

If my girlfriend wouldn't murder me, I might get this. Though I'd prefer bigger

    • +34

Its okay so does your girlfriend.

      • +1

        Dad?

        • +8

Your Dad would know your GF prefers bigger D?!

          The plot thickens.

    • +2

they'd only murder you after getting married, so I think u might be alright…

What a stupid/costly thing I did last night, wiped down my 65' Sony and 2 x 27' monitors with Car Glass Window Cleaner now there fooked/full of lines and jumping image lol.

    • Ouch.
Do the surfaces look fooked with the screens off?

Edit: Or was it because you applied too much pressure to the screen and damaged the panel internally?

      Edit edit: Or both? Lol

      • No idea hey, just sprayed it and then used a micro-fiber cloth. Now the monitors just flick on and off and go black/green and jump around. The TV on the other hand has about 15 new lines vertically lol….

        Ah well costly error.

        • I thought you need to use the cloth just like for glasses? And not microfibre for car? I clean my screen using the same one as my eyeglasses.

    • +2

Yeah, no, you don't want to use any kind of window cleaner on a TV or monitor…

      • +1

Should have googled it before hand hey!

        • +1

          Hey yeah hey… Hey

        • should try it on one monitor first and see the result!

  • In the item description it says manufacturer refurbished

    • Condition:
Brand New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Packaging should be the same as what is available in a retail store, unless the item was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details.

Can't see any mention of refurb.

      • +2

The description is different if you use eBay mobile app. This debate happens so often here 😅

        • Thanks, good to know.

Seeing as the eBay condition is brand new, I'd go by that anyway. Seems like the refurbished text is coming from some markup the app uses but not visible anywhere apart from the preview on mobile.

          • @wheretobuychocettes: Yea it’s def brand new. Sony store put [box damaged] or [refurbished] in the title, otherwise it’s brand new.

Just had a look at the specs it does not support USB HDD recording how can a TV this price and quality not support HDD USB recording.

    • Get a PVR?

      • $4,000 for a TV and you have to buy something extra.

I just paid 3620 delived for an samsung 82 inch QLED not Sony but has just as good specs and provides USB HDD.

I know q-led is different from OLED but I'm viewing my TV from front on and if you've not really wanting to view your TV from any extreme angle a OLED is very overpriced

This look like a pretty good TV but really still a bit expensive compared to other brands with comparable specs.

        • +1

Not sure why anyone would watch tv at "extreme" angles tbh

55 votes, 980 clicks, deal on the frontpage of OzB for 7+ hours. TVs sold? 0.

Goes to show how tough the TV business is for Sony nowadays.

  • FYI $3985 Pick up at Harvey Norman. $25 local metro delivery, $50 outer suburbs to 35km.

    • It's $4295 @ HN.

      • On their site says 3985

Been seeing heaps of 70" TVs price dropping recently.. Hopefully 80"+ TVs are next.

    • -1

      Heres hoping 100" is next

      /s

  • Our future television will be like modules/fixing tiles shapes to the desired size or in a roll-up poster.

I do not see the consumer market for 100" and above in the current design as it would be crazy expensive to build, package it, transporting, storing, installing and etc.

  • +1

4k without HDR is meaningless people
and don't think for a minute 65" is big enough I upgraded from 60" to 82" and I'm already used to it.
unless you live in a small chicken cage apartment go for 75"

    • Kinda depends on what you're doing with the the TV. If it's for the living room and there's lots of people moving around the place and watching it from various distances then I think bigger is better. If you're putting it in a room with nice speakers and correct seat positioning to actually sit yourself down and watch a HQ tv show or movie then sacrificing some size for OLED is better.
