  • Woah - even since the A7iii price drops, the FF mirrorless market has really got interesting.

I'd still recommend the extra dosh to go the A7III though, such a god damn gem.

    • A7iii or nikon z6

      • Imo a7.

        • EOS RP for that price is worth it if you disregard the battery life ?? (which I heard is about 300ish)

    • other way around, EOS RP triggered sony to cut its entry model A7iii.

      • Ah my bad. Interesting move.

      • Yeah, though realistically the EOS RP isn't an A7iii competitor. EOS RP is a bargain bin version of the EOS R, which is nowhere near on par with the A7iii or z6 as it is. No ibis, intentionally neutered video capability and the worst AF system of the lot.

Canon have an amazing back catalogue of lenses, and the RF glass is good, albeit incredibly expensive. It's a shame they didn't make a body on par with the competition, especially considering Nikon half (profanity) up the FTZ mount and it's only compatible with the newest AF-S glass.

        • A7iii is the cheapest current FF model and so is a direct competitor. About to sell my A7iii because of the rubbish IBIS and neutered video
Everyones jumping ship, so can buy any other system for one piece of my expensive Gmaster glass that has astigmatism like an old granny.

      • That being said, $1284 is pretty cheap. There isn't any economy RF glass available, so if you were going with the EOS RP I'd go straight for the EF adapter, and hit up some of the ancient L lenses. At this price this starts to look like a good beginner FF alternative to a used 6D, and has the added bonus of an EVF which should make it straightforward to learn with

      • If you can only afford one lens to start with, get the native 24-105mm F4 RF lens. It is versatile, has OIS and reasonably priced, should be able to get one just over $1000 if you shop around, e.g. https://www.cccwarehouse.com.au/xcart/pc/nviewPrd.asp?idProd…
For those who are not up to date, Canon is releasing a new EOS R firmware with significant AF improvement: https://www.thephoblographer.com/2019/08/28/report-canon-eos…
Quoting the article (I will have to check out for myself when it is released):
In comparison to every other camera system, so far we are finding that the Canon EOS R’s new firmware update is:
Pretty much comparable to Sony’s, but I’d still put my money on the Sony a9 or the Sony a7r VI for consistency.
        Far better than Nikon’s
Much better than Fujifilm’s X and GF series
Significantly better than Panasonic’s S1 and S1R series of cameras

  • Definitely getting into the mirrorless game once I sell most of my SLR stuff (keeping my 5D IV).

    • No need to sell your Canon lenses if you stay in the Canon ecosystem though.

      • that's true, but I've got too many lenses that I don't use, including a few Big Whites. Just need to cut back.

        • I c. Should not be hard to sell them, especially the big whites, big pool of Canon buyers out there…
