you could try a small usb extension cable to get around the fatness of the flash drive which causes problems for some usb sockets.

just logged in to say there are some great comments in this great… cannot stop laughing

  • This promotion will backfire on most ozbargainer, we should all walked away from this deal.

  • would Officeworks stock these?
Last time I was at O.W, they say they regularly matched MSY and they don't even have to call up to check the price. They will just beat it.

Honestly never going to bother with MSY again, they really just never have their shit together. I think it's fairly well known that the only thing they are good for is prices, everything else they make a mess of.

    • +1

From what people are reporting, some stores and/or staff do not seem to have it together.
      But other stores do.

Though I've been in the same bucket as many reports; they didn't answer my email and when I got there, they claimed the item I wanted was out of stock, so how about an alternative at the same price? :S

MSY have good prices but customer service is pathetic.
I ring the auburn store to check stock level no one eva picks ups.
When I go there, wait in the line for 30min and they tell me no stock.
Pick up the phone clowns, you may have less ppl in the line.

  • I used to live in Auburn, but even then I avoided going to MSY.

Picked up one from varsity (plenty of stock), it's not as fast as my rage. Still a great buy.

Do you have to put the safety on when you take it out?

They have heaps of them this morning, at MSY Clayton.

  • "As I rifle through this thread I find some of the replies disarming, others just make a hollow point, but there’s no magic bullet in (shell) cases like this."

(not my puns, sadly, I found this here: http://typophile.com/node/17733

MSY = wait in line for 25 mins, then see a 'mate' of an employee walk up to the counter to get INSTANT service in front of you.

Regular customers can get treated pretty contemptuously at MSY, depending on the staff member. Ironic considering that we were their bread'n'butter when they only sold at Swap Meets years ago.

mod - race taken out; based on what I've seen, race is not the determinant on who has to queue. Also, note they have a pre-order queue and regular business customers, though I haven't worked that bit out yet.

Just got back from North Melbourne store (was there at about 12pm). They ran out but gave me a Sandisk at the same price. No queue, nothing. Sweet as.

Just did some quick testing, and copying a 1 gig file resulted in a 3mb/s write transfer rate.

Reading the same file back resulted in a read rate of 14mb/s.

I guess it's not bad if you're not in a rush. Might give it to my bro to use.

  • Lined up (on my own haha) from 930am at Balcatta WA, (opens at 10.30am), 2 other people turned up at about 10.15am. Long story short, I was the first in, and the ONLY one that walked out with one. They had ONE (1) in stock only, and its the MAIN STORE in WA! Classic. Oh well, 1 hour worth the wait for ME I guess.

I was re-reading the original description after reading your experience:

Limited to 1 per customer. While Stock Lasts!!!

I must have overlooked the fine print:

Disclaimer: We anticipate no more than one customer per store.

Sequential read speed is 9.98MB/sec write is 4.6

think I'll wait for the bazooka sale where I'll definitely get more bang for my buck.

  • +1 for all the good comments, y'all comments made my day :)

  • +1

Ahh what a bummer, I knew I should've waited for this sale! Looks like I jumped the gun.

  • MSY are some real loose cannons in the industry, they have that "sell 'em all and let god sort 'em out" mentality, and although their prices aren't laser-accurate, and their long queues jam up frequently… I think it's safe to say you'll still be coming back at least 357 times for those bottom of the barrel prices. So long as you don't happen to buy a dud that needs a replacement, chances are you could be cycling through the rounds of the warranty repair process for months.

Overall the it's a lighter impact to your wallet at the expense of higher calibre service.

No revolving doors here, the customer rides shotgun.
