Don't risk it with citi, they are no longer the citi of old.

What was the citi of old like. Never had much dealings with Citibank.

      • Very easy with the application process and approval was guaranteed for most. The most generous limits like 30k plus.

  • "Deals" like this make me wonder if people who never intended on getting a credit card actually sign up, spend the x amount to receive y bonus. I don't understand it.

    • So blame the credit card company or the person applying?

      • There is no fault, so no blame. Just curios to my lack of understanding.

People who already intended on getting a credit card, the bonuses may be enticing, depends on annual fees and what have you.

        • Lots of ppl on OzB sign up for points and cancel..credit card companies are banking on people taking up deals like this, spend money and not pay back full amount. The interest is around 20% on unpaid amount which is 5x the normal home loan interest rates. Due to such defaulters, credit card companies make money and are able to provide "perks".

  • Is this the best new credit card deal at the moment?

    • You must be new here.

  • I just applied to this last week for the kogan promotion, im still within the 90 days of activation - can i still redeem this?

  • I think the current Citibank Rewards Platinum bonus points offer is better than this Flybuys offer for those who want frequent flyer points, so for readers who see the posted Flybuys offer and think "Velocity!", go for the 120,000 Rewards points offer instead. In reality it's 80k initially and 40k if you hang around for more than a year, so I would regard this as an 80k offer. That converts to 32,000 Velocity points (2.5 Rewards points = 1 Velocity point), whereas this Flybuys offer would only convert to 30,450 if my maths is correct.

    • You can get 15% bonus when transferring to Velocity from Flybuys deals every now and then from memory - once or twice a year perhaps?

But equally, you can often get a 15%+ bonus transferring from Rewards to Velocity…

        • Do they do bonuses to Velocity? That's a fair call if they do - I've never looked into Citi due to the bad rep they often get here

Ignoring the points from the 3k spend..

      2k flybuys = 870 Velocity
      35 x 870 = 30450 Velocity ~ regular 15% promo would nett 35000 velocity
$49 annual fee for an earn rate of approx 1.3c pp
