      • Not sure how this is related.

        • Paranoid and stupid.

          • @NoBargainNoLife: Is that directed at me?

Were you affected by the Medicare hack yourself? Were you personally affected by their incompetence? I'm not sure how you can classify calling these clowns out as paranoid.

Oh I just realised you are the poster of this deal. Perhaps you are the paranoid one, thinking I'm attacking you? Believe me, my original comment was directed squarely at Medibank, not you.

  • +2

called them as a current member and they gave me 4 weeks free. didn't give me any live better points though

      • Can't find if waiting period is waived do you happen to know cheers

        • It's waived if you've already got coverage of it.

        • It's in the first paragraph on the promotional page.

We'll also waive 2&6 month waiting periods on extras.

      • Excludes Hospital only cover, Extras only cover, Basic covers, Corporate covers, Accident Cover, Ambulance Cover, Overseas Visitors Health Insurance, Overseas Students Health Cover (OSHC), Working Visa Health Insurance, ahm covers and other selected covers.

    • +1

Great that you got that, but they won't do that on every occasion.

The only way to make significant savings on your private health insurance premiums is to churn regularly.

  • What does 25,000 points get ya?

    • +3

      A few examples

20k will get you a $200 voucher for Adidas, Brooks, Youfoodz or Hellofresh

22k will get you AirPods 4

25k will get you Beats Studio Buds or a $200 credit towards your policy

      40k AirPods Pro

      65k Apple Watch 10

      90k AirPods Max

      • Is it like credit cards where voucher is most valuable and credit is least valuable?

    • I've had good value in the past redeeming for amcal vouchers - 1000 pts per $10 - based on redeeming points for money I was going to spend anyway.

      • Yeah, that's all I have redeemed my points for. Gone into the local Amcal and bought up a bunch of things that I didn't need that then expired 🤷‍♂️

    • +1

pay for another month premium with points.

  • Is this similar to the previous phi deals?

  • +2

The GMHBA free weeks will finish in January. Might be a good time to switch now.

    • +1

Maybe, or wait until 1 January 2025 and see what new deals are posted.

Some funds may post new deals automagically on 1 January. Others with less sophisticated content management systems may update websites manually—we might have to wait until 6 January to see those offers.

Thanks mate. Legend. Good to be careful these days especially since the BUPA shit show.

        the BUPA shit show

Always has been, always will be :)

Can you imagine how much worse it will get when this is implemented?

Private health giant Bupa will move part of its customer service centre offshore in another blow to the fund’s 4 million members, who will soon lose access to Australia’s second-largest private hospital network.

Bupa staff were informed this week that the company would outsource its digital customer service platform to a team in the Philippines from the middle of next year, affecting 140 staff.

One employee, who spoke under the condition of anonymity to protect their employment, said leadership did not plan to share the news with their members “as it’s not policy to inform them of changes to business operations”.

“I think policyholders would be interested to hear that their sensitive medical data, as well as other sensitive documents such as copies of passports, will be handled overseas,” the employee said.

  • When is the best last date to churn to Medibank usually?

  • -3

    Currently don’t have any PHI

I did a quote for me and partner for: Medibank Bronze Plus Progress and Essential Extras
    It is $244 a month

Can we sign up for the 1 month, receive 50k points and redeem 2x AirPods 4 and cancel straight away?

It says you must maintain cover for 28 days and then you will receive the points within 8 weeks. I’m assuming that you’re ok to cancel after the 28 days and you can still access the points even after cancelling?

Does that sound plausible or am I missing something?
    Thanks!

    • +3

Why would you cancel immediately when you get 4 weeks free after the paid first 4 weeks?
Just cancel somewhere near the end of the 8 weeks after using the points.

      • +1

End the policy on the last free day. It's what I do with every churn.

Next day, the new policy starts.

        • Thanks guys that is what I meant, don't know why this isn't more popular then.

Getting more than your money back plus free dental check and I'll buy a new pair of prescription glasses and get $150 back on them as well

          • @Brick50:

that is what I meant, don't know why this isn't more popular then.

Sorry, I still don't know what you mean or what your question is.

            • -1

@YesPleaseThankYou: If I posted a deal saying you could get a pair of Airpod pro's for $244 it would gain a lot more traction.
The added benefit is also the cover, so I will get a free dental check up as well and a new pair of glasses for free

I'm saying people don't seem to be noticing this deal for how good it is, given it has such few + votes

              • +2

@Brick50: Very true but I am not surprised. Less than half of Australians have PHI, and many are unwilling to switch providers due to fear or the perception that it requires too much effort so they keep paying the "lazy tax". Personally I only began switching providers in 2024 after being with the same provider for many many years.

              • @Brick50: This sub is for making most free cover/less MLS by churning PHI. You can get goods (Airpods in your case) from Credit Cards churning and use PHI bonus points to pay for another month premium.

      • Interested to hear if that is the case, since T&C don't suggest this is the case at all. In which case the deal is unobtainable by suggesting you only need to hold cover for 28 days to receive the points.

Worse case renew cover for a day to use points then get prorata/cooling off period refund?

If they don't honor that I'm sure AFCA would set it right

        • +1

I dont see any problem. You just need to read it again.

The process is simple and easy.

E.g. 1/1/2025 start the policy, pay 28 days till 28/1/2025, then enjoy 4 weeks free till 25/2/2025.

The points will be sent within 8 weeks from the day you start the policy, so worst case scenario you get the points on the last free day 25/2/2025, then just spend it and switch provider.

Then if you are not in a hurry to switch, say you switched on 11/03/2025 but paid monthly till 25/03/2025, you will get a refund automatically as your new provider will contact Medibank to cancel your account.

          • @NoBargainNoLife: the only inconvenience is that Medibank is sending you a cheque instead of just a bank transfer..

            • @VQLD: Only if you dont have bank details uploaded. They do mention that on the website.
I have received refund multiple times through bank transfer even the COVID $100 refund.

        • Not AFCA but the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman ('PHIO'). If that doesn't work, Fair Trading in your state or territory.

  • Thanks OP, with current insurer for the last 7 years (yes, I know) and hence called up Medibank and was offered 6 weeks free after the initial 42 days plus the 50k points, signed up, happy days!

    • Any reason why you phoned rather than online? Much quicker online.

hence called up Medibank and was offered 6 weeks free after the initial 42 days

That's worse than the offer in this thread, which is:

4 weeks free terms: Must maintain direct debit and hold eligible cover for 28 consecutive days from the policy start date to get next 4 weeks free.

      • Spent a good 30 minutes on the phone… First time churner so called regarding how to cancel existing membership.

Happy with 6 weeks free after 42 days as we will need to be with existing insurer for our dental appointment (our dentist works with existing insurer so no gap).

Will go for the ones with shorter commitment periods once I have churned once or twice and got the hang of it (like changing mobile providers)…

        • I received a call after signing up too, tried to get me to sign up for 6 weeks but yes you have to maintain cover for 42 days so went with the 4 weeks.

Although commenter above is suggesting if you don't hold cover when your points are credited in 8 weeks time then you can't redeem them… so are you guys also assuming you can churn and use points still or intend to hold cover until points are sent?

I just wanted to mention that if you are going to need surgery soon, there is a website that shows a percentage of how many admissions are that the specialist has decided to be covered by any health insurance scheme as some decide on a case by case basis.

    https://www.healthshare.com.au

However, medibank does not currently share data with their systems but Medibank website does show this data in an collapsible accordion on the specialist profile… When the medibank search works (searching for ENT ear surgeon shows an error, so I opting to stay with my current insurer for now). I have submitted a feedback on their website about this just now.

I hope this helps someone avoid a costly mistake. If you haven't got any expected issues, then go for the offer 😊

  • When entering the promo code, it says "Promo code not applicable."? I'm signing up for the Medibank Basic Everyday Starter plan

    • Do you mind just reading this post again or even just the title?

      • +2

        Oh, thanks! bronze and above

  • +2

    It now says 8 weeks free… 8WEEKSPLUS.

So its changed and is now 6 weeks free for 42 days and then addition al 2 weeks after 14 months..

    • -2

      It's called a new promotion.

      • -1

Well arent you a clever clogs, wee petal ye

  • +1

can i cancelled and rejoin and the bonus applied? I just joined 2 days ago with 4 weeks free

    • I'm wondering, did you read anything on presented to you during the sign-up?

When you join Medibank, or change your cover, you're entitled to a 30-day "cooling off" period (as long as you haven't made any claims).

      Source: https://www.medibank.com.au/health-insurance/cancelling-memb…

Note: if continuity of cover is important to you, you better check about that before cancelling and rejoining.

      • -2

Oh you are just full of passive aggressive comments this morning arent you? Little to be at so you do

      • +1

Yes, but am i treated as a new member when i cancel in the cooling off period and i rejoin again do i get the 8 weeks free?

        Do you work for Medibank?

        • You'll need to see how Medibank defines new members.

          If in doubt, ask Medibank.
