Why is this thing so popular?

    • RING is so popular because it’s soooooo good!! Just works without a hitch!!!

  • How do these fit outside being in n rental can't really screw things to door frame,is this also waterproof incase it got soaked during rainy season at winter.

    • +1

Outdoor approved for heat, rain, sleet, or snow.

Also, you could fit it on with heavy-duty double-sided tape. I mean if someone is going to steal it they will take it regardless if it is fitted to the existing doorbell or tapped.

    • I use the 3M heavy duty double sided tape, it isn't coming off anytime soon.

    Personally, I wouldn't recommend these.
I got one for about $80 and sold it within a month. Main reasons were:

    • Motion sensing was so bad the whole device was useless to me. I was hoping to be able to detect movement by my front door, but no amount of tampering with the settings could get it to work properly.
      • Poor video resolution & lag between door bell press and being able to connect on my phone meant most people were leaving as a tried to talk to them (I'm on NBN 50 so speed shouldn't be a huge issue.)
    • Monthly fee for cloud storage & no local storage option is what pushed me over the line.

I have had no issues with the motion detection, works reliably and sends alerts quickly. I do agree with the poor video resolution, but that is improved in the newer (and naturally more expensive) versions. Also the long time it takes to connect means that people have already walked off by the time video connection is established to my mobile. Of course if the people have actually rang the doorbell, they'll generally wait for a bit longer. Also it seems that iPhone connects a bit faster than Android (iPhone 6s vs Pixel XL are the ones I've tested). And lastly I would also love to see some local storage instead of paying for the cloud storage subscription.

      subscription kills it

      • … what?? $40 per year for total home security???

        • -1

          Total?

    • could be bad range wifi

  • Bought one from Bunnings Bankstown today and Power Pass didn't give me any discounts. Receipt shows item as PROMO where the discount % usually is.

  • +1

Bought these through amazon already but there's a 12% cashback on amazon still so the membership works out better if you bought other stuff too (i managed to get the sony headphones at $289 so massive savings there)

    • +1

Hate to break it to you buy it's 12% on some stuff…not Inc electronics.

      • Correct.
        Kindle & Alexa Devices: 7.00 %

Expired. Back to $139 at Bunnings and $148 at Officeworks
