Fun Fact: Sydney Heritage Fleet salvaged James Craig from a Tasmanian bay named by French explorer Bruni d’Entrecasteaux, whose two ships, Recherche and Esperance spent a total of almost two months in Recherche Bay in 1792-93. D’Entrecasteaux was searching for fellow French explorer, La Perouse, but while in Recherche Bay he established a market garden and an observatory, in precisely the spot where James Craig was discovered. A real French connection!
