2019 Hisense 65" R7 4K UHD Smart ULED TV $1487 + Delivery @ Video Pro eBay

560
PROMPT

This is for those who may have missed out on the Appliance Central deal during the ebay 20% sale last week. This works out to be $60 more than that deal + shipping.

The R7 (successor to the P7) has the following features

200 Smooth Motion Rate
Ultra-High Definition
Dolby Vision HDR
Wide Colour Gamut
Over 1 Billion Colours
Ultra-Local Dimming
Bluetooth
VIDAA U3.0 AI Smart TV
Alexa Enabled
Google Assistant
RemoteNow Ready
Dolby Atmos
PVR Recording
USB Playback
Sports Mode
Game Mode

FYI: Hisense do have a RG series that has Android TV rather than VIDAA that is similar to the R7 however it has 100 Smooth Motion Rate (vs 200), no Alexa integration (because Google), no RemoteNow capability (because Google again), no Dolby Atmos and has something called Precision Color rather than Wide Color Gamut. The RG series is a couple $100 cheaper than the R7 model.

This model has something that Hisense called Elite backlit / Ultra local dimming with is a very basic local dimming (16 or so vertical zones) which of course it not even close to Full Array Local Dimming.

EDIT: I just bought this TV (from HN listed for $1695 and used a few of the AMEX deals to bring it down to $1495) and will upload my comments about how this tv performs.

Hi, could anyone help suggest whether this or the P8 would be better.

P8 obviously a year older but has the hisense QLED technology.

    Any feedback would be nice

      If you don't need the following which are available in the R7;
      Dolby Vision (HDR)
      Dolby Atmos
      Bluetooth headphone connectivity
      Updated Hisense interface
HDMI ver 2.0 on all 4 HDMI ports rather than just 2
then maybe the P8 might offer better picture quality due to the Quantum Dots/QLED?
I have no experience with the picture quality of the P8

  • Still happy with N7 from 2017, not any material/significant difference in picture quality/features.

  • +3

such a good price already. Previous years the equivalent TV took til about Q4 to get down to this price.

  • +1

Now just give me a decent price on the 75" R7 and I'm in!!

Great price on this though for those happy with 65" :)

    • What's a decent price for the 75" R7?

I think I'm going to get the superceded 75" P7. From 4.5 metres I'll doubt my eyes will notice much difference.

I haven't really checked out the P7 yet, just have to make sure that sports look natural.

I'm still using my 8 year old 65inch Plasma.

      • +1

No idea given how new the TV is but I've seen it going for ~$2500 so closer to $2K and I'll probably bite.

I haven't really checked out the P7 yet, just have to make sure that sports look natural.

From my research it's seems there is very little difference outside of:

        • Dolby Vision
        • Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 decoding
        • Voice control
        • Thanks Jonesy for doing my research!

I doubt I'll use the extra features.. Dolby Vision looks like a fancy name for a high contrast mode lol..

Dolby Atmos 5.1.2, it's for a family room (no HT).

Voice control.. I'll use the remote..

So looks like it's the P7 for me :D I'll spend the savings on a fancy dinner.

          • @JimB: Haha, just make sure you check them out yourself before you take my word as gospel :)

Another feature I forgot to mention, which is a big deal for me, is the added Bluetooth functionality. Personally, the addition of those features I mentioned are worth the extra $$$'s.

            • @MaximumEffort777: Yeah will check them out.

Bluetooth for Headphones? That's a good idea for bedrooms but would be wasted in my family room.

Yeah, horses for courses, but I just need a basic TV for the family room.

              • +1

@JimB: Yeah, the headphone option is huge for me as a late night watcher when the wife and kids are asleep.

Sounds like the P7 with some leftover change would suit you just dandy.

                • @MaximumEffort777: Would be perfect for a bedroom.

I remember I had my 65inch Plasma in my bedroom for a couple of months before I mounted it in the lounge room.

These where the days where you couldn't lift up a 65inch Plasma by yourself, let alone trying to mount it on the wall. Kids these days have no idea how heavy the old Plasma's were.

  • I have the P7 which looks good, but I bet this would look way better looking at the specs here.

  • I’ve been eyeing the 50 inch version for the bedroom, but basic specs like contrast ratio, panel type, peak brightness are impossible to find. And even by TV standards, Hisense’s model naming scheme for different markets is next level, I can’t find anything close to a US equivalent of this TV.

    • +2

Yeah this is an annoying thing about Hisense (and TCL too). Seems to be zero correspondence with US models. Don't know why they do this. It just provides a smaller pool of an already small pool of reviews available for their TVs. It's easy to just say "I'll just get a Samsung" when you can find reviews both locally or internationally and know it's the correct TV.

I am constantly in a battle of:

75" 7 series, or 65" OLED? or maybe spend a bit more for 75" 8 series. But then it's like, I am spending more on an LCD than I would an OLED (assuming the OLED get's to that $2000 price again during an ebay sale). Anwyay, by the time I have money to buy, ULED XD will probably be around haha. I am interested in that too.

    • +3

65 and move a little closer to it

  • +1

Is there a link to Hisense TV app list?

  • +3

Appliance Central have snuck just under at $1480 with the same code, plus their deliver is $29.20 instead of $77

    • +4

Worth noting that Appliance Central use the shoddiest and most unreliable logistics company in the land too. Hunter Express.

      • Google reviews corroborate your opinion

  • This or LG 55” b8 oled?

    • +2

LG B8 OLED if you care more about picture quality than size. Plus the WebOS interface on the LG is way better than the hisense one. It's not that the Hisense R7 has bad picture quality, just that the B8 OLED has a lot of favourable reviews when it comes to PQ.

      • While on the comparison track;
This or Samsung RU8000 65" (which apparently isn't as good as previous NU8000) as they are roughly similar price? It's not for gaming, just general TV, sport, Netflix etc usage.

        • +1

I think it comes down to personal preference between the Hisense and the RU8000. I compared these 2 for myself at the shop plugging in my own content and the picture quality was very similar. The upscaling perfomance of both were also very similar (when I played my 1080p content from my USB drive).

  • Just curious, whats the difference between this and the P7?
More around HDR and Dimming which seem to have changed names.

    • Hmm, they look so similar. I don't understand this Dolby Vision HDR. It says its a proprietary standard which one pays a licencing cost for, but requires 12bit colour, for which the panel is native 10bit. I don't get it, I suspect the extra 2bits is manipulation via dimming, or is it just marketing w**k?

I can see they can now decode Atmos, so there is obviously a licence agreement, but from a practical standpoint is there a difference?

      • Pretty sure DV doesn't require a 12-bit panel

        • Agree, I think DV supports up to 12-bit panels but can work with 10-bit ones as well.

          • @Knight2000: Figured it out, taken from: https://www.dolby.com/us/en/technologies/dolby-vision/dolby-…

"Dolby Vision signals can be delivered using a single HEVC Main10 stream or as two AVC-8 or HEVC-8 or HEVC-10 streams. The single layer HEVC Main-10 profile of Dolby Vision can be decoded by a standard HEVC decoder, then post-processed
using a Dolby Vision module to produce the full range 12 bit Dolby Vision signal.
            "

Also, the HVEC Main 10 profile allows for a bit depth of 8-bits to 10-bits per sample with 4:2:0 chroma sampling.

So they take 10-bit stream and process it to 12-bit via software.

            • @mrhugo: Nice, thanks for looking that up:) Now I know!

  • Thanks for the info on the RG, interested to hear how it performs compared to the rest from this year.

  • Bummer about not working with Alexa, I didn't know that and am pretty heavily invested already.

Sucks because I don't think there's a better tv for the price

    • +3

I think you misread, the R7 does indeed support Alexa integration (it's a main feature). What you might have seen was me referring to the RG series that has Android TV, that one doesn't support Alexa.

      • Indeed, lazily read through the title. Good news for sure

  • Just double checking, is anyone able to verify that google assistant cannot turn this TV on? google can only help with functions like changing channels and volume? This TV looks awesome, but recently bought a google home, and was hoping to get a TV that can integrate fully with it…

    Would really appreciate any feedback

    • If not use a smart plug

  • Is this capable of native 120hz for next gen. Console?

    • Spec sheet says 4K @ 60Hz - I would assume it's only capable of 60Hz.

      • Yep that's right, 120Hz is only supported on the HDMI 2.1 standard and all the 4 HDMI ports on this are HDMI 2.0

  • how's the interface? is this still laggy like previous hisense? picture quality is awesome though

    • +1

The interface is not as fancy as the Samsung Tizen or LG WebOS, but definitely not laggy. Menu wasn't too hard to use. For comparison I found the menu system on the Sony X8500G less intuitive personally.
