The previous deal ;)

I think he is referring to the Amazon deal.
He sure did.
At least this one is right here right now. You don't have to wait 2 months for delivery, waited 1 month then got a cancellation message, with no compensating voucher, eh Mr Amazon :-(
Would this be good as a plex server?
In a word, yes. I have this unit and have an nvidia shield as a client. Highly recommend as the NAS pretty much does no transcoding when playing on the shield. No dramas with 1080p or big 4k files when I rip my 4k blurays for storing…..
I got a 918+ recently, also running Shield as a client. How do you find the loading speed of vid library covers? It seems theres a delay when scrolling your library and I only have 20 videos. Am using 2x 5400rpm drives in SHR without ssd cache. I read that the Synology app store gives you a 32bit version of Plex server, wondering if maybe installing the 64bit version from Plex site might help this?
It's overkill.
Get a cheaper NAS and spend the savings on an Apple TV or Nvidia Shield or anything else that will natively play everything you want without transcoding.
DS418j would do the trick?
@O O: Oh, wow. QNAP vs Synology?
Is this model powerful enough to replace my ageing HP Microserver for NAS duties, as well as an i5 NUC running Home Assistant, and Shield TV running Plex server?
Celeron Processor J3455 looks ok - HD 500 is hardware accelerated encode/decode for x264/5
but what would i know, i use an $15 orangepi as my nas LOL
Thanks. Name checks out.
My ds214 is dying but I can’t quite make myself spend $600+ on the ds918 because it must be due for a refresh. They update their models around every 2 years, and the ds918 was actually released in 2017…
I think the new DS918+ is the DS1019+ which is already out (but a fair bit more expensive). Basically the same specs but 1 extra bay.
They upped the default memory by 4GB as well… and that's it.

This code cannot be applied to your order.
Code doesn't work.
Edit: my mistake, looks like you need to sign up for the eBay Plus first.
Thanks for the code. I have been looking for an EOFY sale on this specific model. As you go up in models, what do I gain? I was interested in the qnap deal that is out of stock now.
I plan on file server, NVR, docker for unifi and a few others. Don't currently use Plex but could change over.
Can anyone tell me the difference between this and say the 4 Bay QNAP TS-431P2-1G up on CA ebay page? Looking for something to store movies to watch through my shield and then just general file backups of photos/music/work etc
Hey NAS brains trust, i gotta question,
if i buy this and start off with inserting a single drive, will i be able to add 2nd drive and live migrate it to raid later without losing the data already on the existing drive?Yes, if you use their SHR volume type.
"Yes, you can expand an SHR volume by adding additional drives to the existing array, especially for those who want to expand their storage due to their budget or storage needs."
As an alternative, PC LAN custom 8GB ram build is ~$25 more:

Thanks - I’ve ordered one of these
Is the extra ram needed or of benifet for this?
Mostly for virtualization I’d say. But for $30 more, seemed a no brainer
Looking forward to the DS419slim with surveillance and pled built in.
What are the main differences? Does the current 4 series not have surveillance station?
as in storing home security video?
Not as good as the previous deal.
