PCOMP

Thanks TA for the original Computer Alliance sales post!

Been eyeing one of these for a while, still not sure if I should jump on this. Not as cheap as it has been from Amazon AU, but this is still a respectable price for the DS918+

  • Anybody knows what the max drive size this can take?

  • Was eyeing the 1618+ but it’s not overly cheaper then other sites.

  • +1

Good price OP, I am also still waiting for a similar ~$600 deal

  • Is this worth an extra $50 over the QNAP TS-453BE-4G?
Mostly for media server for at least the time being…

  • +1

If i want to spend less, do I have many options. Happy to possibly go to a 2 drive version, but the 718 isn't a huge price drop, and i assume the 218 has a lot less features?

    • Im running the 218+ and its a brilliant unit. Got 2x 10TB drive in it.

To be honest, once that fills I will need the 918 I think! But for now its a little beast that does everything!

What extra did you need the 918 to do over the 218+?

      • Thanks, so from my reading
        https://nascompares.com/2017/11/10/understanding-the-differe…

The only difference will be the number of drives. + means the same cpu speeds and possibilities of dockers etc.
The 18 means the latest model, just the 9 has 4 internal bays and can add 5 more, the 2 will only ever have 2 bays.

  • Not as cheap as it has been from Amazon AU

Yeah that's IF you actually got your order. Myself and quite a few others on here didn't and that occurred with both the January and February deals (never mind the ETA being 2 months or more from the order date and receiving cancellation notifications only a few days before the estimated ETA).

Amazon's behaviour with tech deals as of late is ridiculous; they're consistently pulling this bait-and-switch nonsense where they never fulfill half the orders when they discount something heavily (even though the item shows as "in stock" throughout the deal's time-frame), then email you to inform you that they're waiting on stock from the supplier and/or having supply-chain issues, cancel your order, after which stock magically appears and they invite you to purchase it at full RRP (sometimes just a few days after the deal's expired and your order's been cancelled).

    • You do realise this was an Amazon reseller, and not Amazon itself selling that particular deal right?

      • I ordered during the February deal and it was fulfilled by Amazon AU.

        • The ones I saw personally were sold by a third party seller but fulfilled by Amazon (ie from their warehouse directly). Amazon was not the seller.

  • Quick and the dead. Now shows out-of-stock.

  • More stock back in play.

    • gone again

  • wanna get one

    • i contacted them and they say they are out and no more on order, so looks unlikely for this deal

      • thank you for your information

  • Back in stock for anyone interested.
