  • Is that a pretty poor nits score?

    • +2

It's above average. 250 is what other budget laptops have.

    • +2

No it’s OK. Anything above 400 is getting into premium territory.

    • I have used this laptop before, found the screen to be pretty good for its class.

Never heard of this brand. What is the origin of the brand?

    • Apparently they're an australian company https://www.infinitygaming.com.au/
People on reddit a few years were saying they're basically rebranded Tongfang laptops and the hardware is good. https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/comments/k6jkt9/is_in…

      • OP says it's a clevo?

        • +1

ask OP about it, not me.
I'm just repeating information I could find about the company.

          • +2

@Originality: You're both right in a sense. Its a Clevo which is essentially a clear skin brand that can be rebadged.
Other companies such as Sagar, Metabox and a ton of others use them.
Think of Holden that was a rebaged Chevrolet.
I've owned a few back going back a few years back when swapping upgrading laptop GPU modules could be done. Some models are great, some are not, case by case.

      • I've had a "tongfang" Intel NUC gaming PC before. Returned it after a few weeks.

Coil whine was driving me mad, this was the biggest issue for me. Speaker balance was not 50/50 (louder on one side, even though it was set to be balanced). The odd freezing and restart. And of course, this thing was a beast of a machine, heavy as F, loud as F like a jet engine, and hot as F, as in painfully hot to the touch when gaming. Battery life was piss poor but that was expected.

      Check this out: https://www.infiniti.com/

  • Anyone know if it supports DP alt mode and power delivery? USB spec is such a mess that it's still optional on 3.2 gen 2 and there's no mention on the website or indication near the port.

    • +1

      No

      https://www.infinitygaming.com.au/product/q16-7a405-bm/

transfer data seamlessly through the USB Type-C

Reviewer also said the brand confirmed that display and power is not supported.

      • Ah that sucks but I guess it's still a good price for those that don't need it…

        • My old msi has usb 3.2 gen 1 type a, but when i connect a cable to my dock, it can pass through display

    • Sadly no, the only downside of this laptop imo.

  • From the photos this thing looks THICK!

    • doesnt look any thicker than the Nitro 5.

  • Does any store actually has this?

    • Can see a couple in NSW, Dee Why and Taren Point.

Couple of stores in Victoria, Kew East and Altona North

Used an OR5 4600H-1650 for about a year, consistent gaming and some video editing.
2 years later my partner still use it for light browsing/media.
Machine is decent built, thermals were not bad considering how thin it is and noise is a bit on the high range (talking about the model I have).
Battery died pretty soon but most noticeable problem is that the keyboard faded pretty bad in no time.. to the point you can't read most of the letters and a lot of light leeks out.
Had some difficulty to find the owner of the company to talk to but once I did he told me I had to buy the whole top panel as the keyboard is integrated to it, having to pay a hefty price and risking installing it myself.. wasn't impressed at all.
Otherwise the machine is pretty good for what it is, performs well and looks sleek on a desk.
Buy some keyboard stickers to apply if you decide to pull the trigger, trust me..

  • seems like a small battery

    • Not sure it matters, if you see the power requirements in those specs.
I've had similar machines in the past, and running off battery was only possible with office app tasks, and undercoating.

  • +2

For under $1000, I can't imagine you'd much better spec sheet wise.
If you've got 240v power available (or a power brick), this looks good!

  • +1

I’ve got myself the 4060 variance of this laptop at clearance price too. Can vote for this it may not be the best named brand but still is a trusted one I guess, since all major PC retailers sell them too. Screen is not bad brightness is good. Most worth pointing out is their GPU’ TDP, powerful compared to a lot of other laptops.
    Build quality is good too.

I don't like the bottom keys of the number pad.
The "0" and "." are misplaced, and the "Enter" is a goner.

  • We just ordered one. They rang my wife and offered her the same laptop but a return for under $500, with no power cord. She told them I would call back. Apparently the $500 is negotiable. Apart from 'why was the laptop returned?' and 'how does this affect warranty etc?' Any other questions i should ask? Does this sound like a good deal?

    • no….
or maybe, if you only want something to last for a short time, and you don't have a lot of money

    • +1

Do they mean no IEC C5 cable or no AC adapter? Big difference there.

Might be a bit of a cost finding a compatible 19v 12a AC adapter

      • +1

Apparently the machine has been refurbished by Infinity. They have then sent it officeworks to be sold without a cable. Not sure of the answer to your question…it all seemed a bit weird and I didn't buy it

        • Sounds like a bargain for someone, if they already have a spare cable, can you share which store that was?

    • Sounds like a good deal.

  • Is there space for a second m.2?

  • only 1 display model at Kew East, call and they do not even want to negotiate the price, it is a display model, no one is going to pay 997 for that !!!

  • What's the boot up time?
