  • OzBargain's favourite Lobster Bisque - tried & never want to taste again. From memory - contains no lobster.

    • Never tried and till I read your comment I wondered if @50c the ingredient list would have said: May contain traces of lobster

      • About right… usually made from lobster shell & scaps - not lobster we would eat.

    • 4% lobster, 3.5% Cod, 3% Scampi, 2.5% white wine, 1% brandy etc Made in UK.

      • Thanks for the correction.
Still didn't like the taste & I love seafood bisque. Bought around this price so wasn't expecting much.

Hard to beat a romantic dinner for 2 for 98c though!

@Coastie: Cheaper than beans on toast, you romantic🍸

Bisque traditionally uses shells more than the flesh - it's a cheap way of using up the inedible & unsaleable seafood.

So the %lobster will likely be just shell & waste from processing lobsters. Similarly for other seafood.
Guess that's why I remember it as having "no lobster".

So next time you cook with green prawns - consider cooking the shells. Might end up with soup better than this from your smelly waste. Makes a cheap soup! Recipe

        • Nice tip, thanks!

@Coastie: Once tried using cooked prawn shells - terrible!

Was cooking fillets of fresh caught Spanish Mackerel (2 huge fish from game fishing boat) on a council BBQ in Cairns for a group. Indonesian women came up very interested in what we were going to do with the heads & frame. They knew how to enjoy good food! And we didn't leave smelly bins!
Swapped fillets with Japanese & S Korean students in return for sharing their meals. Great food, great times👍

    • At that price point, any decapods would be acceptable.

        No he mentioned the bisque.

  • I thought this was dog food because of Woolworths Baxter's dog food brand..

    • I'll let you know after my first can if it tastes like dog food or not.

      • how do you know what dog food tastes like?

        • Youth group skit back in the early 90s…

Happy to report it tastes OK. No overly lobstery though. A bit more like having cream of tomato soup at the beach.

Watch out for the seagulls then😀

Yes, unless you read the label, there's no way you'd guess this is lobster bisque. Certainly has the smell of seafood🐟

Cheap soup if you enjoy the taste & smell. (I didn't. Guess I'm not the only one - probably why I've found it ridiculously cheap in discount shops.)

But tinned bisque has never tasted great to me. (Same for any tinned soup.) Best freshly prepared, eaten on sea front in France🇫🇷 - but that's bloody expensive! I'm hanging out for a good filling Bouillabaisse (traditional Provençal fish stew originating from the port city of Marseille).
          Bon appétit🍴

          Was it romantic?
My tip: Put a lit candle on the table, in the empty can so they appreciate the luxury meal you prepared❤
