  • Thanks!

    Done it

  • You can also claim it, if you have existing account, i have just done mine

    • are you saying that, if i have a paypal account and bought stuff previously I would be able to claim money back?

  • Done thanks. Importing that Asus transformer is getting harder and harder to resist.

    • me too. I'm choosing between the transformer and the galaxy tab 10.1. Where is the cheapest place to buy it?

    • resist stumo, resist!

    Thanks for the voucher.
Just their service is still pretty expensive. Make sure you don't get stung by their fishy volume-metric calculation. Received a parcel weighing 1.12kg containing clothes. Had to pay for 6.5kg volume-metric.

    • +1

Charging by volumetric weight is a normal thing for any shipping method. That's why you have to enter in the dimensions of your package when getting postage quotes from anywhere, e.g. usps.com. It's not hopshopandgo's fault, it's the courier company that charges that way.

      • +1

Of course it is a normal procedure, it is just that so many people complain about the particular way HSG applies this rule. Their refusal to repack goods, even when advised to do so for a fee, does not not help to build confidence.

  • Yay modcloth!

    • +1

Boo still have to pay >$25 once I look at the details :(

  • +1

I'm worried about the volumetric calculation. What if the store I order from decides to use a big box without telling me, and HopShopGo refuses to open the box & repackage… I'll end up paying way more than I should.

    • +2

      Ya it happened to me.
Ordered a radio from Newegg. Small item box was packed into a much larger Newegg shipping box (which they refused to open) so I got screwed by HopShopGo. USA->OZ shipping almost 40% of the the total cost to buy and send the radio here. Still way cheaper than getting it here tho :)

      • I want to get something from Newegg too, and am afraid they will do the same thing. Any special but sure way to avoid getting screwed by HopShopGo? It looks like once they have your item as "hostage" they can charge more than they should, and you must pay.

    • +1

I have read about it happening to a lot of people now that it has happened to me as well. I ordered a shirt, a small makeup product, another 2 small light weight clothing items, all from the one U.S store in the one order. It was shipped to Hop Shop Go as 3 separate packages and they would not repackage. My items would have easily have fit into just one of the boxes I received.

My order was for around $30 worth of items…the shipping ended up costing me $80! The shipping was going to cost over $100 but there was a promo at the time that they would ship your first 1kg for free… the small makeup was in a package by itself which was classed as a 1kg package.

  • so once i login through that link is the voucher reserved for me?

    • It should show up in your hopshopgo account as 15 hop shop dollars

  • +2

Not going to negative this. But HopShopGo would have to rank as one of the worse frehgt forwarding companies. They overcharge via over measuring and their customer service is known to be quite poor and dismissive of complaints or even special requirements.

This $15 might sound like a deal, but trust me. Any sizeable package and you wont be saving much at all.

    • +1

Pound for pound they are still cheapest. And I can get something for the US to my door in 5-7 business days

      • Not if they are inflating prices and have crappy consolidation procedures. There are better options out there.

        • The last package CGW/HSG sent to me was a laptop. Amazon packed the 4kg laptop box in a hugeass box which was calculated as 12.5kg volumetric. Shipping cost $146.

A 4kg USPS GXG shipment with those box dimensions costs $257 if paid online.

I measured the actual laptop box inside the hugeass Amazon box. Shipping only the laptop box costs $144 via USPS GXG.

So for my laptop delivery, CGW/HSG's DHL service is MUCH cheaper than USPS. If the laptop box was removed from the hugeass Amazon box, USPS GXG shipping only costs about the same as CGW/HSG's "full-sized" DHL+forwarding service.

I'd recommend people check how much their previous shipments would cost if shipped via USPS GXG.

You can't compare DHL to USPS Express Mail as they are two completely different service levels.

        • I didn't mentioned comparing it to USPS. I said compare with other freight forwarders who are known to have better consolidation procedures, measurements and shipping rates.

        • Has anyone done a direct comparison between other forwarders and HSG/CGW? Same item from the same store with the same delivery time?

        • yes eug, the nook color. You can check the thread on wp. HSG turned out to be $5 cheaper than the next cheapest option (CGW)

        • Isn't this a discussion between CGW/HSG (who are the same), and other services?

        • Yes they are the same company, but they are competing with themselves. HSG was cheaper, followed by CGW, then the others.

        • So this mob was the cheapest? Who are the 'better options' zhenjie was talking about?

    • isnt hopshopgo the same as comgateway? which freight forwarding company is better?

      • You could try shipito.com
They have a dodgy snail mail option w/o insurance which is good for low cost items like clothes, magazines, pc card, etc.

  • I used them for my Nook Color and they were $5 cheaper than all the other options people were using.

  • checking their International Shipping Rates,$15 isn't a deal.

    • They use DHL. I usually get my packages within 3 days. The last thing I ordered was shipped by them on Friday, I received it on Monday. If you do a proper comparison (e.g. their DHL prices vs USPS GXG prices), you'll be surprised!

  • +1

I've used them 7 times so far, each time without a hitch from a shipping perspective. But yes, volumetric calculation of shipments might be a shocker, you could try emailing the merchant about their shipping box sizes. Some places go way overboard with their packaging, e.g. avoid jcpenney like the plague, they ship in massive boxes, bought just 2 jackets which happened to equate to 15.4kg volumetric, had to discard it in the end, though the items were only worth ~$35 so wasn't too fussed. Amazon too with some items, always go for their frustration free packaging if available. Though I've found gilt.com to be great when it comes to shipping box sizes, as well as piperlime and levi's.

One more thing, $15 aint much, they regularly have 1kg or even 2kg off vouchers, iirc the last one was just a month ago. Also, don't forget the fuel surcharge!

Wouldn't you be able to use this $15 in conjunction with a 1kg/2kg off voucher (if one happens to come along between now and 6th August), since the $15 isn't a voucher but rather credit ("H$G Dollars") applied to your account?

      • +1

Hmm, I guess so, the kg off offers are usually just added as a coupon or automatically, while the H$G dollars is like using a gift card, so yep, should be possible!

  • +3

so whats the point of this again?

  • Is there are $A250 limit (before Customs Duties apply) due to DHL courier delivery into Australia - whereas $A1000 limit applies to general postal arrival?

    • I ordered two Nexus Ones last year in two separate orders ($600+ each) and didn't get charged GST or anything.

    • Didn't they change that years ago? $1000 for all now.

  • be careful with hopshopgo. sometimes they don't label the contents in the package, and DHL charges you some ridiculous fee for packages without a labal. they'll deliver the package, and a few days later you'll get a bill from DHL.

Thanks OP! I just used HopShopGo to buy a laptop from the US. The wrong laptop was sent out to my US address, and I was worried about how much HSG were going to charge to return it for me, but it was only $5 and took 2 minutes to organise on the chat support. Total shipment cost was $84 (shipping, fuel and insurance) for a 4.5kg box. Not sure how that compares to others like Shipito, but I was happy with the customer service so would use them again.
