I'm all for iPhone's lasting long and all (I have a family member still using an iPhone 6 and he's happy with it), but at this price, you're probably better off picking something on the other side of the fence. For example, for the price of the 6s Plus you can get a Galaxy A50, for cheaper, I must add.

    • +17

Fair enough, I still thinks it's a good price for a brand new iPhone. I own a 6s Plus which still runs great.

      • +5

Oh, absolutely, still a good phone at this price if you're deep into the eco-system. I don't think there's better deal on any of the newer iPhone's, especially if you're like me who likes to buy stuff "new", and not "used".

          • +13

@TwentyTwoCarats: So, what should I call it when someone uses a Macbook cause it fulfils their needs and has iMessage that syncs messages from their iPhone but it's also because the person needs iMessage since their peers and family are on it, and they also bought an iPad cause there is arguably no better portable media consumption device, oh, did I mention the Airpods cause they sync seamlessly with their iDevices? So yeah, genuinely curious…cause maybe there's a different word that I don't know of, being a non-native English speaker.

      • +5

I own a 6s Plus which still runs great.

Same here - it's still snappy for a 4 year old phone.

        • My mum has my iPhone 6 Plus which I had since launch.

Just recently replaced the battery. Runs great.

          • @The Value: Í'm on iphone 6 too, and after changing battery, it's running great. haha, not bad for a 5 year old phone

            • +3

@yolo123456789: I agree! Try that on a 5 yr old Android! Don't think they have software update for those phones anymore.

Now that Huawei/Samsung has upped their price to Apple's stupid pricing, lets see if the latest android can last 5 years. with software updates of course.

              • @Andreu:

Now that Huawei/Samsung has upped their price to Apple's stupid pricing, lets see if the latest android can last 5 years. with software updates of course.

$1300 (Samsung S10+) vs $1800 (apple xs max)?
5 years is an unreasonable expectation of the battery life lasting until then.

Probably around the 3 year mark you need to change a battery..iphones were offered a cheap battery replacement only after their practice of slowing down the processors was discovered

                • -1

                  @cwongtech: RRP for Galaxy S10+ is $1499 https://www.samsung.com/au/smartphones/galaxy-s10/buy/

At least get your facts right otherwise your clearly bias post loses what little credibility it has.

Also the post you’re replying to mentions software updates, not battery. Battery would be an issue for any phone after 3 years. I’d still rather be able to get it replaced and continue on with the latest software.

                  • @browneh: Sorry bud.. was using OzBargain pricing off the top of my head.

I don't use RRP to compare, I'm no amateur

                    Samsung S10+ 512GB here - $1479.2

                    iPhone XS Max 512GB here - $1899

Also the post you’re replying to mentions software updates, not battery. Battery would be an issue for any phone after 3 years. I’d still rather be able to get it replaced and continue on with the latest software.

Sure, software wise, you could say Apple is king in software (features/"Innovations" stolen from Jailbreak/Android) because they only have.. one new product a year to support.

                    Yeah I've used Apple too.

            • @yolo123456789: Yeah…6 here to…but didn't know I was about to drop off the iOS upgrade map. Hmmm….

    • +3

Like he said in his listing, "it's just a preference" meaning Apple v Android ( mostly the software side of things ).

So no need to compare hardware or specs as some just need/prefer Apple, period.

Disclaimer: I'm not an Apple user or fan boy

      • +10

I was just typing my comment as you posted this. I have nothing against Apple users, I just meant to say that in the long run, this may hit it's end-of-life sooner than the A50 (probably losing it's software support soon), considering how long ago it launched. But now that I think of it, I'm probably wrong cause holy shit this almost 4 year old phone has similar single-core performance as my 2 year old Android "flagship".

        • +3

Software support will last at least until Sept/Oct 2020 as 6s will support iOS13 coming soon

        • +1

All good. But like I said above, I don't think too many people buying these are comparing benchmarks, or even care too much about software updates/support. They just want an new iphone at a reasonable price.

P.S. Just wondering what cpu your comparing it to, maybe a SD835 or Exynos 8895 or HiSilicon 960/970?

          • +1

@ozhunter68: Yeah, my reason for comparing the CPUs was the OS requirements getting higher with time, not just the benchmarks (although with Apple it's seems to be more about the RAM, like them dropping support for iPads with 1GB RAM this year).

SD835 in my chunky little 9.3mm thick XZ1 Compact.

            • @[Deactivated]: Fair enough. My friend has an older Z3 compact and although it has a larger 28mm v 10mm. cpu it comes in almost a

mm thinner. Your battery is only 100mAh larger, you would not think that would take up so much space. Is your cpu

throttling much and/or does your phone get hot easy when pushed being in a small form factor?

              • +1

@ozhunter68: It does get fairly warm if I'm playing a game, like once a year or slightly warm after I reset my phone and it's installing apps while I set everything up. But other than that, you'd be surprised to know that I've had it get a little too hot (okay, really hot, like the battery temperature hitting 50*C hot) a couple times, but not throttle, or at least it wasn't noticeable, and this was before I rooted it, so it was just the stock firmware.

              • +1

                @ozhunter68: "28mm v 10mm"

It's actually nanometres (nm) not millimetres (mm). What it means is that the transistors in the older CPU are spaced 0.000018mm further apart ;)

    • Galaxy Note 2, 4 (replaceable batteries) & 8 still running great. Samsung creates great & functional phones. All with sAMOLED, S-pen & expandable 1/2TB memory.

      • I was talking about the overall experience, and that includes the software. So, while the Galaxy Note 2 may still be an adequately fast phone with a great display and awesome hardware overall, it kinda loses out on app support, considering the last official update was 4.4, if I'm not wrong.

I'd love to consider custom ROMs as an option (I'm running one right now), but you'll be dismissing a good chunk of the "non-tech savy" population.

Nothing against Android, just..there comes a point in an operating system's life where it's too old to be considered an option, as developers start targeting the newer versions.

The mention of replaceable batteries hit me right in the feels though.

    • +2

It’s not cheaper if you have to re-buy all your apps and spend a whole lot of time moving your photos off iCloud to another service.

Plus, I’m super-suspicious of Android’s (lack of) privacy protections and app curation.

Plus, Apple phones keep on keeping on. I won’t be “upgrading” my iPhone SE for a long time. It’s just fine and runs as well as the day I bought it.

    • +1

iPhone 5S and 6 are being dropped this year. It's a possibility 6s will be dropped next year but I wouldn't say likely.
I've seen the 6 and it feels slow on iOS 11 and 12. 6s is still great, I would guess at least another 2 years before Apple drops support.

      • +2

Yup IOS 13 will drop support for iphone 6 but 6S will still be supported. For at least 1-2 years I guess.

    • +5

So you are going to neg all phone deals posted here with no more than 1 year of software updates?

      • +5

Well, all Android deals posted, lmao

    • +1

What’s your evidence and what’s your point? Should probably reverse your neg.

  • +4

kids have hand me down 6 and 6S both run well. 6 is getting dropped of IOS13
6s still sold new for prepaid so be another 1-2 before it goes you would think.
Still have a 4S around here slow but works.. depends on what your needs are if you need to be the latest ios or not.

  • +14

    it's just a preference

Not really, it's a choice between a device intended to collect every single piece of data possible for the worlds largest internet advertiser which causes large monetary losses via advertising and the mass delusion that advertising doesn't work or rather it works on everyone else just not the moron thinking it doesn't work on them.

    And a device that doesn't.

    • Harsh, but true.

    • -1

Why do you use an Android phone then?

    • -6

Google gives much more to the world for having relevant ads, vs annoying ads you get for free to air TV. How much free stuff does Apple give?
Apple controls & knows everything about you, including your bank acct. Google cannot control what the vendors do, but will happily advertise on the most valuable Google apps via Apple devices.

      • +9

If you think Apple is the bad guy compared to Google, you are dreaming. Don’t get me wrong, both invade your privacy, but no one does it like Google.

      • +2

“Apple controls & knows everything about you”.

I have never read a more false statement in my life.

        • +1

Perhaps in an alternative universe, we live in a dystopia where corporations have complete control over us.

    • +3

Apple still harvests data from Siri, Maps and News. Of course it harvests less, but the fact is if you were really concerned about communications security you'd probably be using a Blackberry with military grade encryption like all the meth dealers use. But presumably you don't.

As it is, this just sounds like another football in the Apple vs Android flame wars.

  • +10

I'm not sure its blah, blag, blah Android is better. I think it's more blah, blag, blah why would you spend over $480 for an iPhone 6s plus with those hardware specs in mid 2019?

    • And, of course, Android is better and Apple is for sheeple.

      • +3

But, more users on Android means the sheep are over there… ;)

      • Well since you want to go there you're probably right, I imagine you could pick up an Android for the same price with better specs.

    • +2

Probably because it performs extremely well for a 4yr old phone as well it actually receives software updates, has a far superior OS in terms of security and support, and doesn't collect+sell your personal data usage? I dunno, sounds iffy, eh.

      • +1

Funnily enough work gave me a 6s years ago and I used it to run Google maps when I was on the road. Battery is major issue with this device and why I would not recommend anyone purchase one. No exaggeration, Google maps run time from 100% battery was around 50 minutes before switching off, I was shocked.

        • +2

Admittedly they did have battery issues plaguing them for that model iPhone. I have the iPhone SE (has the same specs as 6S) which I bought 2.5 years ago and I took in to Apple a few weeks ago as the battery was very poor. I was prepared to pay for the battery replacement as it was, as I said, two and half yrs ago that I bought it. They replaced it for me, no charge! And advised me it has another two years warranty on it (though I'm not sure if that'll actually be honoured)!

          Crazy, that level of service.

          • +1

@ThithLord: It's a bit precarious getting the battery out of the SE, according to the Apple Store I went to last year. They ended up replacing it with a refurb (looked like new) for $39 that had less than five battery cycles. I think they would honour that extra warranty. Mine didn't get it because it was originally a non-Australian model.

  • -3

    iPhone 6s for $380? That's a bargain? I wouldn't pay more than $350 for an iPhone 7

    • +3

Can you tell me where to find a brand new iPhone 7 for $350?

      • Give me $350 I'll get one for you

        • +13

          Do you have an ABN?

        • -1

          I don't want a hot one ;-)

      • +1

funnily enough, telstra tech fund (all4biz) have the iphone 7 for around $500. which is cheaper than the official apple website price of around $700

    • The RRP for new iPhone 6s 32GB is $599 and there is about $24 profit margin for Apple resellers (less than 4% margin) so this is indeed a good deal over the regular price.

  • +2

Yeah but its not a 1c phone.

  • I traded my iphone 6s plus 128GB for $120 for a new iphone through vodafone.

    • +20

Erm, sounds like you got ripped off.

    • +3

Mate, I sold my iPhone 6s Plus 128gb for $340 on eBay. What are you doing?

    • +3

      For another iPhone? Double rip-off

  • What's the difference between 6S and 6S plus? Apart from price, of course

    • +2

      Screen size: 4.7" vs 5.5"
      Resolution: 1334x750 vs 1920x1080
Battery: Plus has slightly longer for movies, browsing, etc. notably longer for talk, audio, etc.

      • +3

The plus also has a better camera, with OIS.

    • Bigger than Bigger.

    • Screen size maybe.

    • 6s plus feels faster than the 6s. I used to have one of each, same os level.

      • Same processor and specs but the Plus is pushing more pixels.

So the smaller phone should have the performance advantage unless there is something wrong at the software level.

  • -7

1c ANDROID phone vs $381.65 iPhone

    Who's the real winner sheeple

    • touché

    • -2

      Smfh why peeps downvoting 😔😔
      Truth too hard to accept

      • +4

Your comment could best be summarised as "bah bah bah, don't be an Apple sheep, be an Android sheep"…

    • +1

The latter, because the former never materialised at that price?

    • +1

Too bad no one is getting that “1c” phone

  • +3

    Any iPhone 3G deals?? -_-

    • +1

I have one in a draw somewhere if you really want one :P

    • i found a 3gs in one of those mobile "recycling" bins. not even pin locked or wiped.
i think it just recently got a new touchscreen and battery before getting dumped. lasts 4-5 days one a single charge.

      ymmv

  • +6

If buying one of these pencil in a visit to your local Apple store for a replacement.

The battery will be quite depleted from having sat in Big W storage. The Apple employee will be able to give you an exact date it was sold/shipped to the re-seller once you're there (info will show up on their job book-in sheet).

    • +3

Even though they're not on the Apple website, Apple are still producing new iPhone 6s so there's no reason at all to think that this is old stock.

    • +2

Before you do that just update the iOS and look at battery health in the settings. If it is well above 80% don’t bother until it degrades over time.

  • Damn it :(

What is excluded from the Price Beat Guarantee?
Cashback and coupon offers (i.e. supplier cashback or reduced price available via paper coupon or electronic codeword)

    Link

  • Not the lowest it’s been but not too bad if you need one.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/429301

I went from a iPhone 6s Plus to iPhone X. I sold my 6s plus to the father in law and regretted getting the X.
So I jumped on the linked bargain and have been happy ever since.

    • What was wrong with the X?

      • +2

Face ID was nowhere near as reliable as Touch ID.
The aspect ratio made watching videos difficult. You either cut off the sides or deal with a smaller video.
Related to above - the screen size was weird and I felt like the keyboard was cramped. I made a lot more mistakes on the X.

The camera though was fantastic and was my only disappointment going back to the 6s plus.

Probably minor gripes but when you pay $1799 for a phone you would want it to be bang on.

        • I’m also a fan of the finger print scanner and home button. I hope Apple eventually releases a phone with a build similar to iPhone 6, 6s, 7 and 8. Other thing is lack of headphone jack but I guess having the lightning to 3.5mm isn’t the end of the world

          • +1

            @FireRunner: The 5S/SE is the design high-point.

I’ll be using my SE for as long as possible. I bought a spare too, just in case.

    • +2

Interesting. I think I would feel the same way going from the SE (current phone) to a larger screened device.
I enjoy having easy one-hand operation & use the device to the absolute minimum, so I like the ease of taking it out of pocket, checking then putting it back all with one hand.

  • Out of stock already for the space grey 6S :(

    • Back in stock now

  • +2

Personally glad to be rid of the home button for my iPhone and iPad, couldn't go back and also only use bluetooth headphones, only time i plug my XR in is for CarPlay.

  • How do you get it for $483?
It comes up as $520 for me.

    • You need to be an eBay Plus member to get 15% off + free delivery.
You can sign up for a month trial if you haven’t done so before

  • -1

Plus the eBay Plus cost ($49), it's quite expensive. I am not sure if eBay Plus worthy $49 a year.

    • +2

It’s not really worth it. The only reason I have it was I forgot to cancel after the free month, luckily it was only $29

      • Make sure u cancel it before the year is up.

  • +3

Amazing that a 4-5yr old phone is still holding its value.
The missus is still running one, and although she wants to upgrade for space and better camera, she hasn't really pressed the issue so she hasn't moved on yet.
Apart from the battery replacement that the apple stpre waived the fee on in Feb, it's still going strong.

  • Iphone FTW

  • As i took up on another deal and already used my 2 ebay accounts in past for free ebay plus i can't remember but if i cancel the paypal payments and the ebay side of it does the ebay plus get canceled righr away or after trial. It's wifes account so want to be sure we dont forget.
Be good to still take advantage of the free trial but if its canceled right away could wait a bit longer.

  • No stock at 21.35.. all sizes OOS
