    $50 and I'll bite.

      that's what she said…

      • And then she did.

        • +1

          …ouch?

    • +6

Yeah see these games in the $60-70 bracket all the time. I’m the same as you, not much of a deal unless it hits $50 or under.

      • +3

First party Nintendo games don't normally get discounted until the console is near end of its life.

        • I’m aware of that. Doesn’t make this any more a deal, you can get these prices any day of the week.

          • +4

@Cheaplikethebird: If it's on the lower end of the bracket currently and historically, then it's a deal. Otherwise, the price you're thinking of is unobtainable for at least another few years. You might have more luck on Gumtree for a used copy.

            • +4

@ronnknee: Sorry when I say it’s not a deal I don’t mean it shouldn’t be posted here, I’m just saying I wouldn’t rush out and buy it because of the price. Also have found deals for $50 a few times with deal stacking - get better at bargain hunting?

              • +1

@Cheaplikethebird: Yep, that's why I included the Harvey Norman price match suggestion. If stacked with Amex offer, then that's another 14% off.

                • @ronnknee: 14% off with a $350 min spend…

Check my post below, links to plenty of posts for first party Nintendo games at 'unobtainable' prices.

                  • +1

@Cheaplikethebird: Seems like it's only Super Mario Odyssey a few occasions and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at one occasion. Yoshi's Crafted World at pre-order prices. I would not count ARMS and Captain Toad as I don't feel they're in the same tier as the other games, nor the pre-owned price from EB Games. Otherwise, great deals indeed, however they don't help anyone who want the games in the near future.

                    14% off with a $350 min spend…

Why the ellipsis? Extra discount is extra discount. I don't know why you're being so negative.

                    • -2

@ronnknee: Because you said at $50 I should go shop on Gumtree like I’m (profanity) Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. The games do hit that price point regularly, I only just skimmed the last few pages of Switch games. For you to be right you’ve had to add so many exclusions you’re basically left with just BOTW. Mario Kart is the best selling Switch game and I’ve listed it twice FFS.

And yeah 14% off isn’t much of a deal when’s you have to spend $350 to get it and we’re talking about $60 Switch games.

                      • @Cheaplikethebird: I filtered out some titles because they are irrelevant to the argument eg. pre-order pricing (after release, can't obtain the price), different popularity/playability tier (less popular games are discounted often eg. Mario + Rabbids), pre-owned (used copies are cheaper). Yes you listed MK8 twice. The second one is pre-owned price. We have to make sure we're comparing apples with apples.

So over 2 years, Mario Odyssey has been sub $60 twice, Mario Kart once (if we're only talking about physical copies) and BOTW once. All the other games haven't. I wouldn't call it "regular".

                        • -2

@ronnknee: That's just from a brief 5 minutes skim at work. If I look at Mario Odyssey now I can see that there are 4 other sub-$60 deals for it that have been posted in the last 2 years. How frequent they are is beside the point though because my argument is that these are fairly standard prices. Comparegames shows that for the last 6 months the lowest price has sat at $73 for BOTW and $65 for MK8D. Just off the top of my head I know that the standard price at Catch for BOTW is $73 - if you have ClubCatch and wait for a 20% off gift cards promo at Colesworth you've got it for $58.40 delivered.

If you don't plan on playing the game right now then keep your money in your pocket, there'll be bigger savings elsewhere this EOFY sales season.

                          • @Cheaplikethebird: Let me iterate my stance.

                            • This deal is about Amazon price matching Big W's upcoming sale.
                            • The sale by itself is not historically the best because some games have been cheaper on a few occasions. However, the prices are still reasonable.
                            • First party titles generally do not get largely discounted until the console is near end of its life. Mario Kart 8 and Mario Odyssey have been exceptions on a few occasions (which does not happen regularly), and should not set an expectation for other games.
                            • Some first party titles have also been discounted on the eShop like Mario Kart 8 on a few occasions, but should not set an expectation for other games.
                            • Mario Kart 8 is cheapest at the eShop right now for a digital copy, which is why I mentioned it next to the price. However, there is a strong difference in opinions between physical/digital forms to the point that they should be treated as separate products, and therefore should not be used to compare prices of each other.
                            • The sale when combined with the Amex offer from Harvey Norman is where I personally find the real bargain is at, as it gives a further 14% off. Yes, there is a $350 minimum spend but personally I don't see it as a problem as you can buy gift cards to make up for the remaining spend. Gift cards can be resold at cost price or used at a later date.
                            • Even a $3 difference between usual price and current price, is still a saving of $3 and should not be dismissed.
                            • Some people may find more value buying the game during a sale (even if it's a marginal saving from the usual price) and playing it now/soon than waiting indefinitely for a sale that may or may not even happen.
                            • Some people may not and prefer to keep waiting.
                            • +1

@ronnknee: Really didn’t need you to reiterate your stance. Are you getting mine? People should not feel any sense of urgency over 5% savings.

I’ve already said that I’m not against the deal being posted because a lot of them are the cheapest current price. The point of the comments section on this site though is for people not familiar with an item to get a feel for how much of a deal something is and for them I’m saying that these prices aren’t uncommon.

        • +1

Mario Kart is $53 right now?

          • -1

            @serpserpserp: Yes. Emphasis on normally.

            • @ronnknee: Oh you mean the normal price of $65? A massive $3 more than your deal lol.

              • @Cheaplikethebird: My reply was to serpserpserp, whose reply was to this comment. What are you going on about?

Edit: I see you ninja edited your comment.

                • @ronnknee: Ah, it reads like you’re saying normally prices aren’t that low and so I’m replying saying that even normal prices are only $3 more than your deal.

So another sub-$60 hey, are you ready to admit that you’re wrong now or are we going to have to trade Nintendo IDs and settle this in Mario Kart?

                • @ronnknee: Ninja edited to change game price to the relevant game, apologies.

    • +1

Having followed video gaming for so long, I have to assume that Nintendo games wholesale price is 30% of the RRP ($89). So $62/$69 are the lowest you're ever going to see unless Nintendo themselves lower the wholesale price and they have zero interest in doing that.

It took 5 years before Mario 3D Land on 3DS became a Nintendo Selects (discounted) game.

  • Which Stores are willing to price match Amazon?

I've heard that EB wont because of no physical store.

    • +2

Harvey Norman from past experience. Worth trying JB Hi-Fi as well.

    • +23

      OK

    • +5

      Congrats

    • Do you want a metal?

      • Like, an iron?

        • I meant medal. Whoops xD

  • Tempting to buy New Super Mario Bros and Yoshi's Crafted World, but I want to get them digital. Since they didn't cop discounts in the E3 sale, I guess 10% off via Big W eshop vouchers is as good as it's going to get, yes?

    • +3

It gets better. Use the discounted eShop cards for the $134.95 for 2 Games offer. Ends up being $60.73 per game and you get ~$7 of credit to use towards your next purchase).

      • Good point. I already bought the 2 games voucher (and used half of it for Mario Maker). I guess I can buy it more than once.

  • +5

    $69

    Nice

Maybe Link will finally get some action, he lost his chance 100 years ago.

For games that have been out for so long the price is still pretty steep…

Welcome to Nintendo first party titles

On the plus side, they are amazing games. Breath of the Wild is one of the best games I've ever played

    • +2

Yeah this has really annoyed me since I got a Switch. All the games are expensive and stay that way for years.

  • +1

Got the Big W catalogue in the letterbox today. All these games are the same price as this deal.

    • Of course Amazon is matching big w

  • ARMS is $39

  • Trials Rising gold is $25 too https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07DWTK2HX

  • Donkey Kong is price matched now too.

  • +2

amazon has had Breath of the wild before multiple times for $63. So it being $69 is a little weak.

  • 135 game voucher ends on 31/07?

    • Looks like they do.
