Hi guys, new to this… Is this as good deal for Mario Kart 8?

Any others recommended for kids + a great deal?

    Thank you!

    • +6

As cheap as you'll get it

      • +1

Unless you've got a wiiu, JB is selling it for $15 so even after buying all the DLC it's cheaper.

        • +4

Except multiplayer was different … No good battle mode :(.

          • +1

@Elijha: And switch is mobile and a better system all around. Oh and the mp will be a lot more active on switch.

      • legend thank you and all! :)

      • I'm wondering if it is the cheap given they are about to drop Mario Kart on Mobile.

        • Have you played that trash? I have, it's awful.

    • you'd probably find second hand cartridges on FB Marketplace for $40 or so..

    • +1

This is the once-a-year opportunity to grab it this cheap.

    • +1

Not really. The physical copy is $64.00 delivered online, or you can buy it from Target for $68. So this is $11 less than you could easily buy a physical copy for.

The advantage of the physical copy is that it can be resold or traded when you get sick of it. I personally wouldnt bother buying a digital copy especially when there isnt much savings in doing so.

      • +2

Normally I'd agree but for me Mario Kart is one of those never ending, never sell games. Always fun to have. I got it as a gift and sold the physical to buy the digital during the last sale.

      • +1

Then again the big advantage of Switch is portability. Cutting down on physical game cartridges and just being able to switch from game to game is extremely convenient. Plus for me personally, I always buy things with the thought that I can resell them, but I never get around to it. I think many are the same.

  • +3

Yes!! Gonna get Crypt of the Necrodancer - passed on it last time on sale (though was sorely tempted), & with Cadence of Hyrule mere day(s) away it's a good trial of the gameplay style.

Tempted with Cuphead (though might wait for cheaper sale), & already have Hollow Knight & Celeste, which I highly recommend.

    • Doesn't cadence come with the original though?

      • +1

Does it!? I haven't seen that anywhere. Do you think you could find a source? Thanks!

      • +2

Pretty sure this isn't the case, unless there's some special edition physical release planned, but i can't find anything about it.

        • +1

Yeah I must have misread something

  • Final Fantasy VII… what a game that was! Might have to get this for nostalgic reasons.

    • +6

They just announced a full remake if you’re not aware already.

      • Had no idea! Looking forward to that. :D

        • Rumours say that they will push it slightly back to release with the PS5. Either way, a March release is still what we are all aiming for.

          • +2

@sh4hp: 03/03/2020 is the release date they announced

          • @sh4hp: Also being released episodically isn't it? Which sounds like a terrible idea for a final fantasy game.

            • @[Deactivated]: Being episodic does suck. But it would suck more if questions remained unanswered as per the original game (I felt there was a lot of loose ends).

      • I'm so very much looking forward to this.

I love the convenience of online purchase games but the Switch just annoys me to no end requiring data connection to check I can open the game, ruins public transport/planes. Hopefully amazon or someone will match this price for carts. Also, can share carts :D

    • +5

The Switch doesn't require an Internet connection to open a game unless you have linked your online account to more than one Switch. Make a new account on the one system and you won't need an Internet connection to play games, unless a connection is required to play the game itself.

    • Is your account set to primary on your console?

    • I've had 0 problems playing digital games on public transport/planes.
Last year I bought Skyrim and downloaded it over pocket wifi/shinkansen wifi in Japan, no issues.

    • Only "game" that requires that is the NES Originals one (it checks every 7 days to make sure you still have a paid subs). (Though I don't know if Tetris 99 does either, as a paid subs freebie.)

All others should work offline if you set the console to be your "primary" one.

  • Pretty good prices for some things there. Other things get their normal price for PC/PS4/XB1, others still aren't worth it (Final Fantasy X/X-2/XII are still way over priced on the Switch)

    • Final Fantasy X/X-2 and XII are cheaper here as well

    • +1

FF XII definitive edition is on switch and Xbox though. So it's not fair to compare the prices of the switch to PC and PS4. Being able to change jobs and reset skill points (LP) and getting 3 gambit sets being some of the features lacking in PS4 and PC.

I do agree that it is expensive

  • +3

How annoying… These prices end the day before the eshop credit discount @ Big W Toys Sale starts

    • +11

Yeah! It's like they're toying with us!

      • +1

        What are they playing at?

    • That's why you need to stock enough cards before next discount coming. Do this year, don't regret in 2020.

  • +2

Rocket league is a great price!

  • +1

I think Big W sells Fire Emblem Warrior for $39. Cheaper and physical copy too.

Unless you want to go digital then this may be one way to go.

    • I got Jb to price match it - thanks for posting!

      • Did you have to show a link for that? If so could you forward the link, please?

  • +2

Niceeeee. I like how my 6 year old’s reading a lot by playing FFIX lol.

  • Does anyone know, has Cities: Skylines ever gone on sale? How much for?

  • Don't have a Switch yet, but wouldn't mind grabbing a couple of these games. I assume I can just make an account on the Nintendo store and use that to login to the Switch once I get one? Just need a good Switch deal to come along…

    • +3

Don't think that's possible in Australia yet, happy to hear otherwise

      • Ah bummer! Thanks for the replies.

        • +2

You can buy online. Dekudeals website has links to where you can purchase with an Australian account

          • @Faro: I will have to check this out, thanks :)

          • +1

@Faro: You need to have signed into a Switch on that account to be able to actually purchase it though — best option would be to get a friend who has a Switch to help out (just have them sign into your account into their Switch, and then you purchase on your own PC).

            • +1

@rith: Yep just tested it now, gives me this error when trying to purchase - 'In order to continue, please access Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo Switch console linked to this Nintendo Account.'

              • @Pry: Damn. Didn't realise that. Sorry if I mislead you

        • If you are in Melbourne, I saw Nintendo switch stand in front of JB Melbourne central today, use one of them and register an account using 4G tethering.

Alternatively, go to JB, they have demo unit sometimes

    • You're unable to buy e-store games without a Switch as far as I have managed to determine. Always have to buy my games on the console.

      • +1

Nintendo estore is available in Australia now.

    • For example, using @Ninternet's suggestion, Dekudeals has a Mario Kart 8 page that takes you to the eShop to purchase directly.

  • I believe Super Mario Odyssey is also $53.10 - will confirm later.

Just checked and can confirm that there is none.

    • Thanks, removed. It's on sale in the US store though.

  • Is Hollow Knight worth buying? The art looks good but not sure about the gameplay and replayability

    • +8

Replayability? Good luck finishing this game, let alone replaying it

      • Super hard?

        • +2

It's not cupheads hard, but you can easily put hours into this game. There are so many ways to progress, like a never-ending journey.

          • +3

@robzila316: Thanks. I take that as value for money which is the essence of a game's replayability

            • +1

@Blackcat2: Loved this game, second most played game in terms of hours on my switch… for some reason considering buying the physical limited edition even though I've played it out.

              • @Elijha: I feel like I'm never giving Team Cherry enough money. 2 systems, and introduced to all my friends.

The wait for silksong is killing me.

    • +1

It is really fun and rewarding to play. I don't normally go for games that are punishingly hard, but this one feels just right.

    • +1

It's replayable in the sense that you might choose to replay it using a different loadout of abilities (that you didn't use on your initial run) or tackling it in a different order (to a certain extent, you are free to tackle the game in whatever order you like, although some areas are gated behind certain abilities).

It's not the infinite replayability of a roguelite, etc. And in a sense, pretty much any game is "replayable" (challenge runs, etc). I'd say Hollow Knight is somewhere inbetween: there is more incentive to replay it than your standard linear platformer, but replayability is not really a highlight of the game either.

Having said that…I'll have to let you know once I actually finish the game! lol :)

    • I played it on 3DS. It is worth buying if you are into those niche platform games like Super Meat Boy, Splosion man, or Celeste. Shades of Mega Man in there as well.

I played about 4 or 5 hours on 3DS. Havent gotten back to it. Its not exactly a crowd pleaser.

  • Celeste never goes below 20 but so tempting.. I might for FF7. Thanks op!

  • Mario Tennis Aces finally, using my gold points comes down to $34!

Also picking up Hollow Knight and Rocket League, thanks op

  • Really want a new Switch game but nothing here tickles my fancy. Wish Donkey Kong was cheaper….ah Nintendo first party…

    • Can recommend Shantae, Rocket League, Hollow Knight, Celeste and Undertale for really good games on a budget. Could almost buy all of these titles for the price of Donkey Kong too.

      • Thanks for this list - I'll take a look at them :)

Got Hollow Knight a few months back for $11. It's something I'm struggling a little to get back to, because of the level of difficulty but it is wonderfully made and good to support the Australian developers.

        • +1

If you're after a tough 2d platformer somewhat similar to Donkey Kong, Celeste is more similar than Hollow Knight. Shantae isn't exactly challenging in the same sense as the other mentioned games, but I had a lot of fun back near the Switch's launch playing through it. Also I've ended up putting nearly 400 hours into RL on Switch, but it of course is nothing like the other games. Just thought I'd mention it for that reason.

  • First time Sonic Mania is on special - been waiting for a while!

    • +2

its the ps plus game of the month if youve got a ps4 too might save you some cash.

  • +1

Finally Mario Tennis is on sale been waiting for to go on sale

  • Sad that there is no Zelda on sale.

    • Hyrule Warriors has the Zelda characters

      • lol I'm sold!

        • +3

Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age has the characters in Zelda.

  • dammit just bought FF7 during the square enix conference, ahh well only like 5 bucks at least

  • All I want is Castlevania collection since it's never coming physical but of course that's not on sale.

No way I'm paying $30 for a digital game.

    • Bloodstained is comin out. Expensive tho.

      • +1

We got spoilt when we consider Bloodstained expensive haha. Dang it cherry.

I'm hoping that igarashi's team will update the multiplayer functions too, making it closer to harmony of despair one day.

      • Yeah I backed it, and Curse of the Moon is awesome. I just wanted Super Castlevania IV

  • I don't care about mario kart, but all my friends do. Should I buy it? I have 4 controllers.

    • +2

It's quite fun to play. Worth buying.

    • +2

It's the best game to just pick up and play for 5 minutes. And great with friends too

  • Are there any good 2+ player games in that list? I only play the Switch with my girlfriend and I don't like single player games.
Examples of games we enjoy: Mario Kart, Mario Party, Overcooked, Just Dance, etc
    Thanks!!

    • Mario tennis, smash bros.

  • Anyone tried the LEGO Games? Any good?
