Sign up for Telstra Broadband ($90/Mth) & Get First Month Credited Back @ JB Hi-Fi (In Store Only)

560

UPDATE: I have ammended the deal to reflect that, unlike last year's deal, the modem cost is not waived, but is instead baked into the plan as a monthly cost. If you already have a solid MU-MIMO AC/WiFi-5 modem router and will be looking to exit out within 12 months, this deal is probably not for you.

Similar to the previous offer last year, JB HiFi have been running this since November, though the Telstra TV component has been removed. There may or may not be a delivery fee charged for sending out the modem (at last check, that was not the case). I have confirmed that this offer is valid and active with two different Victorian stores.

Sign up in-store at JB HiFi with 100 points of ID and you get:

  • a Telstra casual Unlimited Broadband plan @ $90/month (either ADSL, Cable 50/100 or NBN50 depending on what services your area)
  • AC3150 4x4 MU-MIMO Telstra Smart Modem with 4G backup (billed at $9/month for 24 months and then credited back, meaning you have to pay any remainder off when you terminate your service)
  • unlimited local, national and mobile calls (requires active phone line or NBN service)
  • free standard installation
  • one month credited back to you (apparently the 2nd or 3rd month)

If you don't have a JB HiFi local to you, you can get the same offer via Telstra's sales line, you just won't get that free month of credit. I'm not going to post that as another deal as it's technically a negotiated offer. For those running the numbers, the JB HiFi credit means the modem has been fully paid for after 15 months of service.

For the mods, I've linked the terms of the old deal (though they're technically not valid) as there's no listing of this online; I hope this is OK. I've set the end-date to the end of the year, as it seems this deal isn't voided by plan pricing changes from Telstra.

If you're in an NBN HFC area, you get the added bonus of 100/5 MBit cable while you wait for the network to go live in your area.

Enjoy!

    • 4G can be fast, yes. But it’s ping, flexibility, reliability and security cannot be matched to fixed broadband.

Telstra is the best. Highly recommended. Telstra 4GX is the best. Thanks OP. Anyone willing to sign up, go to JB hifi and ask for more goodies, sometimes the staff will give you some freebies. :)

    • vague statement, sounds like somebody saying that Alan Joyce is the only person who knows how to fly.
Once Telecom Australia had a perfectly working comms company. Now we get promises and back stabbings.
Yup their 4gx service hangs in with data but any fixed service it is like talking to monkeys. Getting fibre to my house was a 3 year nightmare and it worked for 2 months. After that all they could do is bombard me with new modems rather than reliable data. The phone was plugged into the second modem with 30% quality.

      Hell beware me from Hell$tra…

      • Their actual infrastructure is superior to all others. Their quality of service, can be sketchy af… and that’s being nice.

  • Aussie boardband is the worst liars out of all the internet service provider. Cannot meet their advertising speed….

For all the dumb folks out there, not many ISP has the 4G backup.

Also, you pay for what you get, cheap skate go with Aussie boardband good luck with the tech support, if your internet goes down after 12am, no one there to support you…. Support Aussie icon, support Telstra.

    • I am keen to know if there is any other ISP that offers 4G backup on their NBN plan

        Vodafone?

This seems like a very underwhelming deal

  • id wait for when they offer a bonus for signing up

  • I guess nobody is looking at this for ADSL. Mate communicate is only $69 for metro customers incl unlimited data, no contact, no setup, with phone, unlimited landline calls.

Need to be on an Optus DSLAM to get that. I've been with TPG ADSL for a year now and it is brilliant (through Vocus DSLAM). Rock solid 15Mbit down on a fritzbox 7390, connection hasn't dropped/resynced for at least 3 months.

They use the Telstra network. Last time I checked anyway. It was one of the reasons I went with them

  • Can you sell the modem if not needed?

  • Telstra 4G back up is unlimited too during nbn down time? Or charged based on usage?

  • Seems pricey? I pay $99 for the fastest speed NBN, unlimited & the basic Foxtel package.

  • If I am in a NBN HFC area will I need the telstra modem?

$90pm for 2mbps ADSL? Umm no thanks! Shouldn't that basically be free for all us poor suckers with no other options other that 3G/4G (Metro Melbourne too!)

Sick of seeing plethora of options for so many inner city areas, but some suburbs (the ones that never got any coaxial in the first place) only have long old runs of copper and still no NBN activity in sight at all.

Anywhere east from Upper FTG to Belgrave only has ADSL and very long copper runs due to only 1 exchange for whole area (Belgrave). Or expensive and congested 4G.

  • Who in the world pays $90 for internet? I'm paying 69.95 with Telstra but that's without phone line/calls, admittedly.

with unlimited data, free modem & casual plan?

  • 1) To the people bagging Telstra, is the actual broadband inferior (on say a FTTC connection) or it just the call centre that's poor?
    2) Is the phone service they all provide the same? Some say just VOIP, some say "NBN Phone". Are they all providing the same thing? (again, assume a FTTC connection)
    3) Since congestion has been cited as an issue, does anyone other than Aussie Broadband provide CVC figures? Thanks

    • 1) Call centre. They're all becoming nightmarish if they're outsourced, but Telstra is particularly bad given the way the teams are separated (and trained).

      2) Phone service is basically the same, just need to carry over settings; on FTTC it would be VoIP via your Telstra Smart Modem (though you have the option of using software on a mobile phone).

      3) Telstra would be in the next tier of providers, which isn't as far behind as people make out. The real disadvantage with Telstra is that their routers do not allow access to QoS features, so in a large household with many devices this would provide some sense of congestion.

FYI, I just signed up at JB Hifi and they're currently running an extra promotion until Monday (14/7) where you also get a $100 JB Gift Voucher on top of this offer

Is this just at your local JB store? Or should be available nationally?

      • +1

in store only but nationally at any JB store.

can confirm this, i signed up today, got my first month free with telstra nbn + a $100 jb hifi gift card :D

  • Is this only for new customers? My 12 month broadband plan has just expired, and couldn't negotiate a discount with Telstra chat. Wondering if I need to cancel my existing plan (which has rolled over to month-to-month), or if I can walk into JB and get this deal now?

    • New customers only, and I'm not sure if there's a waiting period after you terminate your services. If you're on NBN, there's much better deals than this if you're happy to move away from Telstra.

  • T&C (which you said was last year) say expiry 2 July; do you know if this year's promo is still running?

    • Not sure? Call ahead and let me know if it's expired.

Just called. He initially said not running, but then I asked what promos were available for signing up through JB hifi as opposed to going into the Telstra store & doing it there - he went to check and then said they are still running the 1 month free promo. Will go in person to sign up on the weekend, hopefully they will honour it (I expect they will offer me something even if not 1 free month, otherwise I could just go sign up with Telstra directly and presumably JB would get no kickbacks then)

        • visited on the weekend to sign up, got the free month with no hassle at all
