  • Back in stock with more than 10 available, just placed an order with delivery.

    colour of console may vary

Would cry if I found the wind waker console.

    • +10

For those wondering, the white console has 8GB of storage and the black has 32GB.

If you got the white console instead of black, you got the short end of the deal.

      • +4

        the white wouldnt be premium?

        • +12

now i'm no lawyer, but that sounds illegal

        • +18

Once go black, never come back

          • +4

@[Deactivated]: i stuck a 32gb usb stick into my basic console. it's now better than the premium.

            that's a GG

            • +2

@Carrian: Except that is a ticking time bomb. It's only a matter of time before the drive will corrupt itself. Better to use an externally powered hard drive or at least regularly backup the USB. This is a well documented issue, one that I have unfortunately personally experienced. You'll thank me later.

        • Does this come with a longer cable?

      • Also includes the sensor bar

    • Without having done any google-fu on this topic, from what I can tell only the handheld portion of the console is unique with the Zelda artwork in gold. Surely there is a company who makes custom WiiU facades that does a Zelda version making it look just like the real thing?

EDIT Something like this for example:
      https://popularforsale.com/products/nintendo-wii-u-legend-of…

    • You'd have to be insane to trade in a Wind Waker Console at EB.
It wasn't even sold in Australia iirc

      • You’re right, it wasn’t. I had to get mine from GameStop in the US.

  • Tempted to get this and return the white basic console from yesterday

edit: Bought. I'll pick this one up and see which one is in better condition and return the other. Do prefer the black colour.

    • Worth a shot!

    • I am getting one as a spare in case my current Wii or the tablet dies.

    • Is there a specific process to follow for returns? The unit I got is battered and scratched so I don't want to keep it.

  • Nice find! - Looks like EB cleared out their basic stock first as this was added 4:30AM this morning - cheeky buggers

    • 30 day returns :D

  • +4

As mentioned in the other deal, I would strongly recommend Click and Collect if you can - The first one they gave me in the previous deal looked pretty rough, but they had three others in stock so let me pick another one that is in near-mint condition.

    • +10

Am quite confused about all their "refurb" deals. Do they wipe it with a tissue or something? How have they refurberished it? At least change the outer shell/case if you're calling it refurb.

      Sounds like straight out second-hand

      • they wipe the hdd clean so there is no trace of previous game saves or who the owner was.

they are not gonna change the outer shell, which would cost more money
and not gonna get them any more profit since these are selling pretty low price as it is…

they do give you a stick to cover the scratches on the console..

        • So not a refurb then. Yes price is too cheap to complain, but call a spade a spade.

          • @Budju: but can't refurb also mean just wiping the data clean?

there are pcs that are consider refurb e.g. those dell pcs that are sold here..
and they aren't gonna change the outer case..just for the scratches..

all they do is wipe the data clean
and make sure it can boot.

            That's all.

            • @pinkybrain: Wiping an old save game doesn't amount to refurbishing a console in my view. The term is banded about too often these days. A factory refurbished product should have every component cleaned and tested, anything else should be sold as 'second hand'.

              • @Budju: The consoles are pretty filthy, they don't wipe anything on the console, just the data. But I guess it's cheap I cleaned it myself

                • @cyrax83: Yea, at this price you can't complain. I might buy one.

      • +3

I just picked one up and it's pretty revolting. Covered in scratches, dirty marks and the vents are filled with dust

        • what do you expect?
          mint condition?
you may get lucky with a good condition one
          but most aren't..

the best you can hope for is one with a game pad that is not scratched or has minor scratches.

          • @pinkybrain: Considering it's advertised that they give it a clean, I'd expect the vents to not be clogged with dust and the console and screen covered in muck.

            I really don't think that's a lot to ask.

            • @youfnc: you asking too much of ebgames..

they don't even have enough staff in the shop.
no one gonna pay them to thoroughly clean the console for you..

if you don't like it, you can return it in 7 days

  • Thanks OP

Great console, pity Nintendo stuffed up with the confusing name - I reckon it would have performed better if consumers (parents) knew it was a different product to the original WIi.

    • And a lot of people get confused and think it’s a handheld

    • +3

      -> Name confusion
      -> Weak marketing
      -> lack of third-party support

I think it was quite difficult for developers to make game games of the Wii U due to how gimmicky the tablet was. A weak userbase further stopped developers which in turn made potential buyers wary. It was a death spiral.

Having said that, I think the Wii U is a great console. It has some real gems in its limited game library. It's a real shame it never reached it's full potential.

    • Did you think of this or was this the widely accepted conclusion?

  • Thanks OP - got one click and collect as missed out on yesterday's deal. Kids x-mas present all sorted :-)

    • +1

Mod it and add lots of games before you give it to them :)

      • Any pointers to where the ideal tutorials live on the net to do such activities?

Just trying to save trawling through the usual bucket load of sites to find the one that actually provides clearly instruction.

        Cheers

        • +1

I am not sure what the current accepted standard gold guide is, but check out gbatemp for help, there will probably be a sticky with a guide or a link to the gold standard guide.

        • +1

I would also say, make sure if you soft mod it. DO NOT let anyone delete the modified game file to load the custom firmware, otherwise it bricks the system.

Soft-mod is far from kid proof.

          • @Velathial: Kids will go nowhere near it as I have bought this for me….well they may but not to the extent of delving into places they shouldn't.

            • @jollster101: Just to pointing it out, you are modifying a game, and changing it into a custom executable that sits on the main home screen. Very visible. Very accessible. Very easy to delete it.

Just saying this is an easy to happen, kids will be kids.

      • A bit confused about the SD card requirements as per the guide. we need a 64GB sd card whereas as per google wii u supports only 32gb. Also any luck with using micro sd with a sd adapter?

        • I use a 64gb MicroSD with adapter on my modded Wii U

          • @bennythejet: Great, thanks for that. Will go and buy one now. Can it be one a sdhc/sdxc types or the plain jane one?

            • @joshmachine: Don't think it matters. Mine is a Sandisk Ultra micro sdxc from memory?
You can use a smaller SD. The larger ones just help when you come to transferring games. Some games are up to 20gb so need bigger card if you want to transfer more than one at a time.

        • You can use any size card but you may have to format it as FAT32. You can use a program like guiformat to do that. If it says it only supports up to 32GB it is because cards of that size and less are naturally formatted as FAT32.

          • @Quantumcat: Ok understood. The guide also mentioned that for system backup of a 32gb model we need a bigger card which confuses me considering the 8gb model and this one wld have the same OS hence the backup possibly couldnt be larger!

          • @Quantumcat: hey mate, so i did what the guide said. all good there. then i went ahead and downloaded a wup file(not sure if i rem correctly) almost 24GB. I cant copy it to the sd drive due to fat limitations. Tried google, too many acronyms and stuff made my head spin. Do you mind telling me a simple method? Thanks

            • @joshmachine: I have only a vague memory of hacking my wii u —— but I thought I remembered games came as a couple of folders each with many app files?

              • @Quantumcat: Noticed one of the guide saying that too, maybe i got the wrong one. will look again. thanks

                • @joshmachine: ok so got another version but this time it has many folders inside such as code, content, meta etc. do you have a link to get the games from?

                  • @joshmachine: Just watch the you tube vids from Jack Sorrell as others here have suggested - a lot less complicated than others and step by step. Loadiine is great for wii U and if you want to load Wii games this guy shows you how to do that as well.

  • not working?> says something went wrong when i try to pay

  • Got one for C&C.
    Thanks OP

    • How did u select C&c?

      I'm only getting delivery option

      • they might run out their stocks in store after ozbargained.

The Wii U is definitely worth picking up for this price, if only to play Super Mario Maker (noting the sequel is coming out on the Switch), Xenoblade Chronicles X, New Super Mario 3D World, Smash for Wii U, Pikmin 3, and of course Zelda BOTW if you don't want to invest in a Switch to play it (although really, it's better on Switch).

    • +5

I played botw on both consoles. Barely any difference. Looks best on pc running at 60fps, ultrawide :)

      • +1

I mean more for the benefit of being able to play anywhere in handheld mode, quality-wise I agree with you (and it's extremely impressive given the limitations of the Wii U hardware).

        • Oh yeah, can't beat the switch for portability.

      • CEMU?

        • Yeah. It's pretty amazing these days, I can't go back to the consoles lol

          • @idonotknowwhy: Cheers for the reply mate :)

            Is it pretty straightforward?

            • @Ry009: Yeah, but if you want 60fps+ and 4k, you'll want to tweak the settings. Look up the latest 'BSoD Gaming Cemu Setup Guide' video on the internet.
Probably not allowed to link it here because sometimes he includes how to obtain games without dumping them yourself ;)

      • +1

I own both the Wii U and Switch versions of BotW and have finished multiple playthroughs on each - there's actually a pretty massive difference in performance at times, and I'd say the Switch version is just a significantly better experience overall.

The Wii U version isn't bad for someone who never intends to buy a Switch, but between the significantly better performance, the noticeably higher resolution, the better controller options and complete portability, plus the much faster speed of the Switch's UI in general and the ability to suspend/resume software much more quickly, I'd always recommend the Switch version for someone's first experience of actually playing the game.

    • So the Wii U is only better if you don’t want to buy a Switch? What about modding etc?

      • +1

You can mod Switches too but only if they are the non-patched version which came out October 2017. In contrast, all Wii Us are moddable. Wii U has also had a longer time so there is more variety of homebrew available (user-made games and utilities).

      • I've got a modded wii and a switch too. modding switches too risky at the moment. wii u is so easy to mod and gives access to a whole library of games and homebrew.

wii u is also great for playing wii games through HDMI.

        • bro i want modded my Wii u would you able to help me which site that you use for guide

          • +2

@jdesign2: I'm not going to post links here but seriously, if you Google "wii u mod" the very first link gives you a complete guide….I'll probably get negged for saying this but have people lost their ability to feed themselves on the internet?

            • @xyron: I would argue that it's not as easy as you make it out to be, there's a lot of research, reading, limitations etc to consider before you even try to do this if you are not tech savvy.
Easy for a computer enthusiast yes, for a casual gamer, not so much.

              • @John Dough: So am I going to be able to explain it in an OzBargain post better than a website dedicated to the cause?

The only console that is easier to mod is a Wii (and even then an argument could be made to say that the Wii U is easier because you don't have to mess with iOSes).

    • +2

Don't forget Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD.

    • I found Super Mario maker really Boring

  • What are these going for second hand elsewhere? On ebay etc. Does anyone think they'll appreciate in value over time?

    • no..
the price actually lower than when they last sold it..

    • They might start going up again, but not for at least another year or two I reckon.

      • Not for a long time as it'll need a die hard collectors market to have time to kick in and stock to become rarer. I think two years will be optimistic. The short term issue is about 50% of the desirable titles have been ported to the Switch already and of the remaining a portion have received sequels for titles that weren't overly single player/story oriented (Mario Maker, Splatoon 2). There's a small number of great games we haven't seen on the Switch yet but it's quite possible more will be ported (The Zelda's HD remakes are rumoured) and even if not, there's probably not a lot of people looking to play them that don't have easy access to a Wii U already or can't source one at a low price.

For it to increment in price there'll need to be a market for people that are really after the hardware more than the software given in most cases the Switch will be the better place to play a lot of the titles.

  • Nice find. Would get one if I didn't already own two original GC modified Wii consoldes.

    • +9

Mod this one and you have GameCube, wii and wiiu, all on 1 system, with HDMI

      • Have to find a GCN adaptor though.

        • There are 1000s of third party ones on eBay. I would recommend to buy a genuine GC controller.

      • Will this mean down the track as mods work around the current issues the Nintendo Switch will be able to do GameCube, Wii, Wiiu and Switch?

Was thinking I would sell my Switch and upgrade to the "Pro" version when it comes out but maybe its worth holding on and modding the switch as an offline console.

  • what are some fun (co-op or not) games to play with the missus?

    • +2

      Mario 3d land

    • Hyrule warriors
      Smash bothers
      Mario party
      Mario Kart

    • +3

Super Mario 3D World is exclusive to Wii U and arguably the best family co-op game of all time.

    • +3

NintendoLand is loads and loads of fun and very cheap (can probably get a copy for $5 from EB Games)

      • +5

Play the mini-game Mario Chase on NintendoLand with friends. I can't recommend that game enough.
