How does this model stack up with the Trimui Smart Pro currently also on Ozbargain: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/898918

  • +1

Rocknix is now available for these chipsets for anyone wanting a better OS than stock.

    • +3

      muOS is the way.

      • No emulation station is a deal breaker for me

  • Any deals for the RG40XX V?

    • Unless you have tiny hands, H is the way to go.

      • H runs hot.

  • Thanks, checked out!

I grabbed the Grey and it still seems to be there, so more than just 1 in stock I think :)

I've been tossing up between this and the Miyoo Mini Plus, but with bigger hands and wanting a bigger screen, decided this one was the go instead. OnionOS gets a lot of hype in the Miyoo world for good reason, but muOS as a custom firmware in the Anbernic world seems to have come a long way and is almost as good.

RG40XXV also a good option but didn't want to go over the $100 mark.

I think the Trimui Smart Pro looks a lot more 'modern' (not in a good way for this sort of hobby) with its 16:9 screen which would leave black side bars for a lot of the retro stuff, so I think the 4:3 screen is highly preferable in this case.

I'm a lazy gamer. Can anyone tell me if the games included with this are good?
I'm specifically talking about arcade games

    • +1

Included roms always suck. Bad dumps, not English, missing games, duplicates etc. Just find your own.

  • +3

As an owner of a 35xx plus I decided the Trimui pro was the better option for me compared to the 40xx h. Still both are great value.

It all came down to the screen for me.

Can someone with the 128gb version upload the contents of the sdcard somewhere please

    • Why would someone upload copyrighted material and break the law for you when much better collections of roms are already easily available online if you search.

No. We can’t provide you with links as it’s against ozbargain’s rules. Reddit is a lot looser with it’s rules but…

      • -2

Better collections of roms exist but the artwork doesn't work properly (I didnt know this which is why I bought the 64gb variant).

I wasn't asking for links or the ROM's to be posted on ozbargain dude. Do you see how all these handhelds contain copyrighted material obtained illegally but it is legal/allowed for them to be sold here? Hope it makes sense why that is and what the ask was? Or I could break it down for you more. If someone asked me for the contents of the 64gb card I would.

          Scrape your own artwork.

Post here never say if games are included. Any posts the explicitly states games are included get deleted.

Or I could break it down for you more.

          Break what down more down?

If someone asked me for the contents of the 64gb card I would.

Then you would be breaking the law and ozbargain's rules.

Go read bullet point 4. "preloaded with over 5000+ games". Every post with one of these consoles has something similar.

Then you would be breaking the law and ozbargain's rules.

Never, sharing my discord here does not break ToS. What I say over my discord is does not break ToS.

            Break what down more down?

How someone can share ROMS and not get jailed. I am suspecting you may be unable to comprehend that.

            Scrape your own artwork.

Great idea. Will be away scraping artwork for 10k games. Should finish by end of June.

Funny, you think that’s a lot. You automate the scrapping and it’s done in an hour or so.

Yes but it’s not clear if those games are copyright. In theory they could be homebrew.

Never, sharing my discord here does not break ToS. What I say over my discord is does not break ToS.

How about you just spend a few minutes googling rom sets and learn how to automate scraping off box art.

really, as if it doesn't need a specific filename format in order to work. I have setup retroarch before, I do not have the time.

All I was asking was for a dump of the SD card. Those could be the homebrew stuff as well.

                • @Prodev3r:

really, as if it doesn't need a specific filename format in order to work.

It does. That's why you setup the scrapper to match whatever that filename happens to be https://www.skraper.net/

Or if you switch to muOS they now have a scrapper built in.

No idea why I want this when I already have trimui smart pro..

  • Thanks OP, ordered one.

Looks like Knulli is the firmware to get?

    • +2

      muOS imo.

      • I've seen you comment about muOS a few times lately… I order the RGXX35SP or whatever it's called, the one that's a GBA SP basically, finally the other day. I was just gonna keep it stock since I've got ArkOS devices, a couple with DrumOS, got a MM+ and Onion the other week, and then the RG556 is really the mainer anyway.

Considering all I really want is to play Tony Hawk and Vice City on a GBA SP, would it be worth my time getting muOS or just keep it as is, in your opinion? I used to keep up with all of these things a couple years back, I even got "review" units of the earlier BittBoys in the day, but there's so many new machines and so many OS's to go with it, I am too old and out of the loop now.

Edit: Finally upgrading from the playable THPS2 v90 as my clamshell mainer, should be good. Even that thing got another new CFW a few months back.

        • muOS's super quick boot makes it worth it regardless imo.

You can set it to sleep for X minutes when the lid closes and then shutdown. Then when you turn it back on it's super quick to boot back up into a game.

This way the battery doesn't drain while sleeping.

The offical firmware recently added low battery sleep, but apparently it's buggy waking back up.

I use to use ArkOS on RG351P.

If you've got the time, I would highly recommend checking out this guide from Retro Game Corps: https://youtu.be/g1sjR6IX9Eo?si=MdaHX_wRTe3gLuoc (muOS Guide: Simple & Customizable OS!)
In it, Ross lays out how to update the RGXX units (especially the RGXX35SP) to MuOS, and the benefits of this OS. Like others have said in their reply, it's got some amazing features that will really come in handy.

    • Knulli has no OTA update, unfortunately. Rocknix does and just became compatible with H700 chips recently.

  • Anyone has a rg40xx h? Could you play outrun coast to coast psp/ps2?

    • I don't personally have it unfortunately. I can definitively say it won't play PS2, we know this.

But the RG40XX has slightly better bits in it than the R36S, and that little boi can play OutRun 2006 for PSP (with settings tweaking) very playably for my liking, so logically it should handle the PSP port well enough. Obviously the PSP version is 30 FPS not 60 that the PS2 was, which also makes the job a bit easier.
