EDIT - Budget PC increased the price overnight to $289
With the $35 cashback from the Samsung SSD promotion this works out to be $250 $254 including delivery.

Here is a comparison from this guy's youtube review.
In summary at the same price the EVO Plus is the better SSD but as in all SSD benchmarks YMMV.
Performance is almost identical, same warranty. May as well save a few bucks.
true, although Samsung offers better support than Adata IMO. I was considering the ADAta but I think the Samsung wins this time.
Kinda need it, kinda don’t, still buying 1.
Goddamit my 1TB for $200 dream is looking unlikely.
Get the 870 EVO and pretend you got the 970 EVO, you will never know.
compared real-world results and it's not worth getting for performance improvement over an SSD version… :/
I assume you mean 'SATA version'.
Just because you don't need the extra speed doesn't mean others don't. No cables needed is great too.
Let me rephrase it.. in my case and for my use (gaming) it's not worth upgrading from my 2 x M.2 Samsung 850 Evo 500gb, as all videos I've watched they show none or little improvement. it doesn't' mean it's not a good deal for others.
real-world tests, not synthetic sequential tests… have a look on youtube. here for ex. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjWUGsQNSvE
"real-world tests"… i.e. for YOUR specific use-case (gaming).
@Heero: true, but that's what the tests are called. what I mean is not from benchmark programs.
real-world results
Windows boots almost 100% faster.
6 seconds vs. 11.
It appears the only "real world tests" the population do are games. Thanks for your contribution IRL.
Anyone can suggest free software to clone existing disk to external storage and then restore onto this new disk? Don't have an enclosure to fit this, so will be using my 2TB usb drive
https://www.acronis.com/en-us/personal/computer-backup/ should be able to do it, been a long time since I've used it (or anything like it).
Samsung give software with this (https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/…). Transfer Disk 1 to 2, shutdown, change BIOS boot order, then clean the old disk when you get into Windows.
In this case you will have to install the NVME driver first.
Minitool works very well, even for cloning OS drives (https://www.partitionwizard.com/)
Clonezilla Live does well and is open-source. I even managed to convert a 500GB spinning-rust installation to a 240GB SSD installation because Clonezilla can resize partitions when restoring.
How would an old machine that has SATA SSD change to this? Would I need to upgrade my motherboard or is there some kind of PCI I can buy to get M2?
There are PCIe adapters available BUT you probably won't be able to boot from it (i.e. use it as your main OS drive).
I wouldn't recommend buying an NVMe drive for a motherboard which doesn't natively support them.
Check to ensure your motherboard supports NVMe SSD boot, and ensure you buy the correct PCIe -> M.2 NVMe card. There are also PCIe to M.2 SATA cards on linke below which wont work with NVMe.
If your motherboard supports NVMe boot, then the unit below should work ok:

The 500GB drive is also decently priced ($135 after cashback) : https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/With-Cash-Back-Samsung-970-EVO-P…
PCIE4 devices might drive down prices of older models soon? They demoed one at CES.
bought one of these. couldn't say no to the price and the added cashback. $250 after cashback is a heck of a price.
They just increased the price bringing it to $254 after cashback, still a great deal but it's the quick and the dead with these ebay shops and their pricing.
yeah still a very good price. I just bought a new razer blade 15 last week when shopback were having the 10% cashback with ebay, and already chewed through the 512gb that it came with lol. this deal couldn't have come at a better time.
i wonder if there will be better deals closer to EOFY.
would this be better than the Adata SX8200 PRO at $269?
