    • Is Musk any more of an oddball than Henry Ford?

      • Did Ford have a weird speech impediment, and talk about space travel and I thing aliens, and the universe is a simulation, or AI/Computers taking over the world? And other crazy sheet Musk babbles on about in his dreams.

Auto drive in the wild will fail, thousands or more will die horrifucally before it's stopped, and Musk will pay for it I expect.
On a restricted course, like a train, it should work reliably, yet we always have train drivers, do we not.

        • +1

True, Ford was a lot more bland and did nothing for society other than kicking off polluting machines by the millions.

Do you have any idea the number of cars they are producing now? And that’s set to increase with the new China factory. They are no Deloreon. Tesla is bleeding money, but the cars themselves have good margins, they are just rapidly expanding the company. They will raise equity in the near future and realistically probably operate at a loss for the next half decade despite what Musk says. But that’s alright because their assets are far more valuable than even the current market cap. No one has been able to produce an electric car even close to as good as Tesla. They are probably 10 years ahead of the Germans. And 15 ahead of the Japanese.

      • You need read r/realtesla, things arent as rosy as Tesla puts it.

      • Tesla is bleeding money, but the cars themselves have good margins,

Latest news announcement is profit is unlikely longterm. So are his grossly overpriced commuters running at a profitable margin? Obviously not yet.

      • Don't worry about these poo pooers bet you they said the same thing about mobile phones. They probably pay for a fixed line just in case the world goes dark.

have a model 3 on order, but really want to get a model y instead. Then, hell of waiting all over again.

  • +1

I'd rather use that money on investments and buy a hybrid corolla.

    • I drove one of the newer Hybrid Corollas - nice car. It has a lot of the lane-assist, speed sign reading capabilities too - though I found it couldn't tell the difference between a school zone 40km sign out of school hours which was kinda annoying… needs CarPlay though.

    • +2

You’re not really their market then, are you?

  • +2

From one Tesla post OP to another, good deal :P

    • +3

You are both accomplished vote-whores :)
      Thought of running for office?

      • Stats padding to ozbargainer GOAT award

  • +2

Damn you Ozbargain, again buying something I don't need just cause its a deal.

  • +2

Actually going to buy this. Have preorder for the model 3 but seems so retarded especially without proper screen.

Don't want to pay $30000 more for the 'newer' version when all driving within 25km.

    • +4

Make sure you use a referral for 7500km of free supercharging

  • +3

Wonder what is worst the Macca's hack or the Tesla record for diluting the front page ?

Anyway like a bee to a honey pot the member rule is to up vote them :)

  • +5

And after 181 plus votes, the number of Tesla's still remains the same as prior to the post.

    • They just upvote for the hell of it lol

  • Aw I just bought one yesterday for full price.

    • +2

      Refund and buy again.

    • +1

14 day return policy isn't there?

    • I'M JOKING.

  • +1

I hope by the time I can afford a Tesla in a few years they will be much better than they are now.

  • Does this car accept eneloops?

    • no, this car ejects eneloops.

  • +2

I wonder why Tesla is not available as a manufacturer on carsales.

    • +1

Its on the carsales iOS app

  • +2

  • +1

You got to give "+" for this great deal :)

  • +1

    BMWs are DEAD.

    • That's because you didn't recharge the battery.

  • Pearl looks pretty awful, hence the lower price.

Aren't they meant to list drive away price?

  • Emm, thinking get 10

    • Bo Derek?

  • +1

Let's face it. If you're on ozb, you can't afford it.

    • This guy begs to differ.

      • He votes greens - special case

I'm going to hold off until they release the Xiaomi Redmi car.
    Good deal but

    • +1

Probs no band 28, so you wont be able to drive it everywhere.

  • All this Tesla hype by social pressure. Reminds me of the last 20 years of Subaru hype by the same social means.

    Challenge:
Scrutinise the Tesla purchase. This is a dumb, overpriced purchase people.

    • +2

      Care to elaborate?

      • +1

Just appears to be an old cobber being a luddite. With all due respect to him, he's not the target demographic. His dream car is probably an F450 or some v8 hsv.

        • +1

I’d love an American pick up truck. I just don’t actually need a pickup truck. But a F150 Raptor would be brilliant.

        • +1

          @ gearhead

          dream car

          I'm a scientist, NOT a bog FWIW.

Probably a great looking Landxcruiser at the moment. But a Lambouguini Countach would be ok.
I just buy a car to sit in and drive as comfortably as possible. Not impress people.

Bitcoin up until now is a dumb fad in my opinion, and such an alternative would need to be heavily reengineered to be better than cash/cards/available investment options.

It's a fairly useless and costly exercise being played out. Ten years and it's still not mainstream. Ten years from now the same I expect? It doesn't appeal to most people, just dreamers I think.

(I don't understand how this came up?)
Bitcoin has had the first to market advantage and hence most people (inaccurately) think cryptocurrency=bitcoin. It was the first "proof of concept" that came into existence and is the forerunner in the cryptocurrency space. However, in terms of capabilities there is a lot of interesting tech in this space, from Maker, BAT to the very powerful base-layer of Ethereum.

What are you referring to? EV or crypto/blockchain tech?

If it's the latter, you have have been woefully misinformed. Former, then just give it some time for adoption in Australia. Thanks to an incredibly parochial polity, we are a technological backwater for more traditional markets, so just give it time. Look at EV penetration in most European countries. Most European countries (and US states) have excellent EV adoption rates.

…and China, they're pushing adoption of EVs on a warfooting. Here's an interesting video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BZ2225OJDg

Won't all these lithium batteries spell an environmental disaster?

    • +1

      Recycle them.

  • Does this come in Manual Transmission and a Diesel engine? :-)

    Thanks OP. Bought 2

Looks like 5 Model S's have been sold since I checked yesterday

    • +1

And another 5 more sold in the last day…

  • Do these come with quick charge?

    • Adaptive Fast Charging only.

  • The government is looking for new ways to tax EV owners because they don't pay fuel tax that they need to pay for roads. It's going to be a growing problem going forward.

They were looking at having your odometer read at service intervals and charging you a tax based on how many KMs you did. Around 38c per L goes to the government's coffers at the moment, so that's probably what EV owners will get taxed when they service.

Kinda kills some of the incentives of going electric.

I recently test drove Model X and KonaEv…
Model X interior is very very very good..it drives great but feels very heavy..
Kona on the other hand is very good as well.
The interior is entry level Hyundai and it does not feel heavy. It is hard to get used to just how fast it is
    ..but the price…omg…
Ill wait for 3 year old used Model 3 …

  • +1

    Waiting for the Xiaomi alternative.

  • +1

I think this post is misleading as the claimed discount of >20% based on custom model is invalid.

Tesla released new version of model S and X recently that has significant number of refreshed components under the hood, including battery, motors, drivetrains etc.

I only found out this after speaking to a store manager at Chadstone last night.

    So buyers be aware!

    • nobody buys this anyway, it's another Tesla flashmob

  • +1

This post has the max + votes - did anyone actually buy one ?

    • I didnt coz I prefer self-charging EV (hybrid)..lol

  • +1

Today they were 2 for $91-92K raw cost. Just reserved one of the last of the 75D's $102K drive away with what appears he last level discounting before the new stock in Aug. Maybe, or maybe its BS, but I will be seriously pissed if they are cheaper next week. Certainly not a good look for telsas principle of a fixed price, no negotiations when the prices can drop $4-10K in a week.

There is one grey demo in Melbourne.

Tested against E300 demo for which was asking $99K (list of $12xK ), nice car, but there was no-contest, except some of the control ergonomics and comfort level front seats the Telsa was a winner in my humble opinion.

    • Really? The website said driveway $130k last week ($115+taxes), did they discount the discount price again?

      Now nothing left.

Are you in Melbourne? If you don't go ahead with the purchase let me know I'll take over your contract.

      • Sat morning on offer from memory 3 75Ds at $102-107K drive away ($92K raw). They are all gone now. Remember the sale was for the 75D 2019 already registered demonstrators with 50km to 998Km. If you pay the full $130K website order now and wait - in August Tesla will deliver exactly what you want with the improved components including an improved rear motor, suspension etc and I believe a really nice 100Kms increased range. For me, however, it was basically the equation of a long-awaited Model 3 for $75-85 vs the demo model S for just over the $100K and some GST tax credits this FY.

If you want just contact me privately and I will send you the VIN of the Vic registered demo (just on 300Km) in Melbourne I won't be proceeding with, happy for you to take it over as I am sure Telsa will be…

buying a tesla car seems risky given they could well be bankrupt in less than 12 months https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-05-18/tesla-to-run-out-of-m…

    • Nobody knows, most automakers have gone bankrupt or have been given government bailouts. Toyota the big exception.

The odd thing is that after test driving the E-class and 5series, which are excellent cars, - the Telsa was simply "better" much much better. Then again I populated a datacenter with Digital Alpha64 because I knew it was "better".

  • +2

For those who purchased, note Tesla is now offering unlimited supercharging on all Inventory S and X's including Australia, for those who purchased in the sale make sure you have that offer retrofitted to your purchase. For those who haven't purchased…well there appears to be no stock.

  • Anyone have a white or red model s and wants to cancel their order PM me.

Other colours may be OK but can't be grey due to work restrictions.
