          • @remedycrd: The comment was referring to the model S 75D (assumption is they are referring to the current post, otherwise the statement is irrelevant). I wasn't comparing it. The original comment was making the comparison.

So if you want a price comparison, I'll use the (cheaper) BMW M340i at 4.4s. Negative vote me all you like people.

Also, if you look I was comparing the last generation of M5. Not the current one at 2.8s. Which again, how exactly is the "equivalent" $200k Tesla "blowing" this away? (Especially given it's lower top speed.)

        • +1

that was the 2012 launch tesla s silly boy

          • @TightBungholio: He's actually correct the Tesla site has the 2019 Model S 75D for 4.4s
which isn't really ground-breaking at that price point

4.3s for an E92 sounds like a long stretch even in ideal conditions…

            • +1

@teh_gimp: It’s also massively under quoted. A fully charged 75D will do 100kmh in 3.9 all day until the battery drops below 80%. Which will not be all day. I’ve seen 3.5 on a slight downward slope.

            • @teh_gimp: All I did was quote manufacturers (or as tested) specifications.
If you wish to refute these numbers take it up with the manufacturer or testing body.

          • @TightBungholio: Silly boy? 2012 launch? Lol.

Maybe go to the manufacturer's specifications for the 75D before posting insults.

The car I saw had the plates otherway around LOLOIL - black one , maybe he couldn't get the plates you showed :D

    • PK, thats your car right?

    • +2

I saw a blue tesla that was "RIPOIL", also at a shopping centre. These guys must be out in full force.

      • Yeah i saw it a few months ago lol

So do you think your big4 professional services firm has morals as well?

        • +1

          howdy partner

        • +9

I work at a big 4 professional services firm too. Where you making this kind of money? I must be in the wrong firm.

        • +1

because I have morals unlike other people..

Do your morals include a dislike for the production of medical isotopes? Because The Greens want Lucas Heights nuclear reactor shut down.

          • +6

@daitro: That's because it's an unsafe old piece of crap, and you can develop medical isotopes using a particle accelerator cheaper and cleaner.

        • +4

          because I have morals

The Greens is the best choice for the economy because they will dismantle the privatised electricity disaster which will make small and large enterprises viable again as per ACCC.

Sadly I don't think it's a morals issue at all and it certainly isn't about the economy - or even their own money for that matter which is scary.

It's just brainwashed people controlled by marketing voting against their own interests.

          • +14

            @Diji1:

The Greens is the best choice for the economy

            lol

          • +1

            @Diji1:

The Greens is the best choice for the economy because they will dismantle the privatised electricity disaster

Did they say how they will do that? Will they buy back all the privatised energy? Or will they seize it Venezuela style?

The greens have a history of promising big spending but never explaining or caring how it will be paid for. In the end it will be either be unfunded and saddle the nation with untenable debt, or they will tax big companies, who will then pass on those taxes to you the consumer via product and service prices, and all of you will end up poorer when your wages have less purchasing power (losing more than you save from cheaper energy costs).

Their only real purpose at an election is to serve as Labor's own National party coalition.

        • I will vote for anyone who isn't Labor or Liberal. If you vote for either of these 2 parties you are part of the problem.

          • @dogboy: With our parties relationships and system of secondary votes you're largely voting labor or liberal whether you like it or not

        • -1

          Morals?

Oh, you mean the contradictory belief that you can just take everyone into Australia and still protect the environment?

          Nonsensical.

        • You vote Greens to waste your vote?

      • +4

While there might be some, that’s changed a lot.
We have a household income over $350k and I would never vote for anyone but the greens in the senate…

I hope you enjoy your angry life under that rock…

        • Sounds like you've reaped the rewards of capitalism yet vote for the socialist Greens to make yourself feel like a 'good person' to lessen the guilt perhaps.
That is unless you already give away 90% of your earnings to charity in the name of equality, then I'd say you are a true socialist and the Greens is absolutely where your vote should be going.

          • +2

@aussiedogga: "Reaped the rewards capitalism"? What by being smart and working your ass off for it?

They have every right to vote Greens too, better than being a rich LNP voter imo!

            • +3

@starspawn: "Reaped the rewards capitalism"? What by being smart and working your ass off for it?
Yes, precisely. Capitalism rewards being smart and working hard. That's a good thing. You confirm my point.

            • -3

@starspawn: Shouldn't you be in the Fairfax comment sections with the other Getupbots? ;)

          • +6

@aussiedogga: You know you can vote and support to support the Greens without being a socialist right? You're conflating different views together incorrectly.

For example, assuming you vote for Liberals, I assume you don't spend 100% of your income on your business or making money and are trying to re-instate slavery so that costs for business goes down and long live capitalism?

          • -1

@aussiedogga: He won't reply to this.

      • -1

        R U OK, sweaty?

    • +4

      lol!

Please post it here when you find it.

    • +2

Isn't most of Australia's power grid still powered by coal?

You are just shifting from petrol to coal.

      • Yes that's definitely an issue that needs to be solved too.

      • +11

Renewable sources contributed 49,339 GWh (19 per cent) of total electricity generation in 2018, an increase of 25 per cent compared with 2017.

The shift is happening pretty quickly.

      • +18

It's not like there's a 1-1 relationship between a power plant burning coal or oil, and a car burning fuel.

        https://www.theguardian.com/football/ng-interactive/2017/dec…

The power plant is more efficient than a regular engine at converting oil into energy plus even now it's not like we're relying 100% on oil/coal for power and the electric car will switch to a 100% renewable energy grid without missing a beat, the same can't be said for a petrol engine.

        • +1

Not to mention the tanker ships that transport it - they burn the worst possible fuel and generate a lot of pollution.

          • @otter-raptor: Tanker ships that transport what?

            • @Tiggrrrrr: Sorry I was unclear - the crude oil . Those ships pollute a lot, by moving to greener energy, that can be reduced too

      • +1

Yes, though if you have solar to charge your car at home you could bypass this. A battery even more so. And as government greens the grid they will have enormous amounts more leverage to reduce emissions if more of the population drive electric cars.

Reality I think is people aren't buying Teslas for the planet. They are buying them because they're the best cars and then using the green part as part justification.

      • Buy as many solar panels as can fit on your roof, buy the biggest Tesla Powerwall battery they make, two if you need it.

No more coal. The sun powers your car.

You could probably afford it too if you're looking into Tesla cars.

    • +7

Yes I'm sure most Greens voters would buy an electric car when they could afford it. There's a whole range of people who vote Greens so not all could afford a Tesla, obviously.

      • -2

I detest greens from the bottom of my heart but I would buy Tesla in a heart beat. It exactly like an iPhone moment once you have driven it. No messy engine oil, oil filter, air filter nonsense. Just a simple electric motor with max torque delivery at 0 rpm!

  • -5

If I have money to buy 100K car, Do I need to worry about petrol cost?

    • +1

It might be the emissions thing, I’ll check with my pal Richie Rich

      • We contribute 1.1% of global CO2 emissions. Inb4 duh per capita contribution — we're 15th. We reside on one of the largest and mostly inhabitable continents on the planet with our capitals located disparately on the coastlines. This is furthermore worsened by our urban sprawl and lack of multi-dwelling housing. Of course, our per capita is going to be high. Inb4 it's grown by 2.5%! That's Oceania, not just Australia.

    • Aren't Teslas electric cars?

      • +2

I think the point he is trying to make is that Tesla buyers don't buy the car to save on petrol.

    • +2

I'd be buying it purely for the response and instant torque

      • -1

I thought Telsas were supposed to be about safety and in future removing driver input altogether so you can play with the 15" iPad dash unfettered? Do people buy them for the speed?

  • +6

S sales nose drived last quarter, have to cut prices. Model refresh is due very due, new interior and better motors.

    • +4

They just updated the car. New motors, new autopilot V3, new bearings, new suspension, increased range to ~600km real world range, which is way further than any EV current or planned in the new future. Also 200kw charging on the new model. The car for sale is the old model demo stock, still an amazing car. 0-100kmh in ~3.9 on a full charge, ~300km range, autopilot hardware etc. This car competes with the Mercedes CLS in size and has a better interior than a CLS.

      • Yep, if I was in the market, I'd be holding out too for the refresh, totally worth it.

Any interior shots yet? Heard rumors they were going towards a model 3 style interior.

        • +1

Nope interior is the same. Model 3 interior is downmarket from the S.

      • I do wonder how the 200KW charging will affect battery longevity. But being able to charge the car fully in 30min is very impressive. Just enough time to grab something to eat on a long trip.

        • I’m assuming they’ve beefed up the BMS considerably, probably using the same super bottle as the Model 3, so I’m gathering longevity won’t be affected. The new P100D has track mode so this points to a much better BMS.

          • @[Deactivated]: Agreed, this may very well be the case. Up to now the battery longevity numbers have been extremely impressive, so hopefully that will continue.

  • +2

    go impulse buy this one

  • That battery would power my house for a week!

    • +8

They need to add this as a feature.
I have a huge solar array, I would love batteries but they aren’t cost effective.
If I could plug a Tesla into it and share power to my house sat peak time, charge it off the solar during the day and overnight off the grid, it would go a long way towards helping me pay for a Tesla car!

      • +2

This could be part of the solution to providing renewable power to the grid when "the sun isn't shining".

Charge from the grid during the day when it's sunny and power is cheap, discharge to the grid for a profit at night time.

    • You musn't use very much power.

      • +2

Some days only 5kwh, average 10 or less, gas hot water though

    • +5

      Wot

    • +9

Cool, thanks for letting us know.

    • +8

Look out! Someone’s taken the red pill.

    • +3

Are you still using flip phone?

      • -2

Nope, Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus. Electric cars are purely a scam at this point, along with renewable energy (with exception of hydro) fossil fuels will power our civilization for years to come, along with petrol in the car.

        • +7

And the smog would continue to power our lungs

        • +2

          Troll gotta troll.

        • +3

          Keep voting Liberal champ.

        • +2

You need to blow away the clouds of crack smoke around your eyes if you can't see how wrong your statement is!

        • +1

Thank god someone like you is looking out for us in years to come! Everyone else looking further into the future than you can sit back and relax while you take charge.

      • +1

Nah, but I bet he was saying iPhone was a scam back when he had a flip phone….then bought a Samsung Galaxy for the same price.

    • +4

They start making coal fired cars soon … might be something for you.

      • +2

Where do you think electricity in our grid comes from?

    • +1

Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean you can outright dismiss it.

      • +1

No, that's exactly what they do, every time.

    • +2

Wow, bad comment. Why are they a scam? I mean, technically, they still run on fossil fuels, so you should be happy with them.

    • +1

I'd buy electric car for their performance. If Model 3 Performance under $100k drive-away, I'm in.

    • +1

I didnt know we had nutheads all around us. I've only seen crazies in the end of the world movies

      • +1

Wait till you meet our politicians.

    • +1

Ok. But why? How is a particular drive technology a scam?

  • +6

Bought three, DM me if anyone want to buy one, I probably only need two.

    • +2

If you only needed one why didn’t;’t you leave some for the rest of us!>?!?

      • So has this deal now been Ozbargained? :)

  • -4

Please no one ask about Band 28!

  • -6

If it comes with a free fire-extinguisher, I'll order one

  • -7

Is this the one that spontaneously combusts?
