Watch TV shoes and movies in brilliant 4K HD quality.

Oh boy! I can't wait to watch them shoes!

    • is this the sequel to watch dogs?

  • +6

Nothing to see here. Was a similar comment to above.

no Android TV 8 tho, Hopefully vodafone come to party and update it

  • +16

Not worth it when a new one with full warranty is $16 more.

    https://www.vodafone.com.au/vodafone-tv

    • +1

      A 2 year warranty, too

      • +4

$16 for 2 year warranty is better deal

    • You realise I mentioned that cost difference in the post, right ;)

      • +3

Tbh I didn't, but who reads the actual post anyways, right?!? :)

        Quality post as always, SB.

  • +1

If it was free postage, probably a deal

  • +6

The marks are probably made by previous owners bashing the unit when it constantly crashes during ads on youtube..

  • How does it compare with Xiaomi Mibox?

    • +1

      is better

    • +2

MiBox is Android TV 8 so more future proof at moment

  • anybody tried installing Hulu on this?

    • Yes I have it and works for me.

      • Which vpn service do you use?

        • Dns service will work. Ran Hulu for ages using Getflix. Haven't had a Hulu sub for about a year now tho

    • sideloaded Hulu works fine on it with Getflix. also sideloaded the CW app

followed the thread on whirlpool and also installed SmartTube and remapped the remote button to launch it instead of the default YouTube app.

      • How did you remap the remote, can I ask?

  • This or the mi box? FTA the only advantage? Android 7 scares me off.. doesn't support KAYO either

    • +1

Kayo apparently works fine sideloaded, Mi Boxes are garbage, this is much better.

      • -7

Sounds like you have no idea.

        • +17

They're crap mate, bad remotes, wakeup issues, HDCP issues, buggy firmware that requires reboots constantly, bad 4K playback..

At the VTV and Mi Box 3 price point, the VTV smashes it.

Here's a picture I took just for you!

@XeKToReX: I have 2 mi boxes, and 1 vodafone, and i dont have any issues with the remote on either of them, and wake up is good especially using google home

          • +1

@XeKToReX: It is possible you got a bad one, or maybe issues is with the tv, what brand tv are you using

            • @asa79: Based on what I'm reading you may have got a good one, appears recent updates fixed a fair few of the stupid bugs but my 2 Mi Boxes are now going to slowly rot away in drawers just knowing they'll never be used again. 18+ months of crap is enough to turn anyone off them.

It's my way at getting back at them.

    • I have both a shield and vodatv and 7 v 8 makes little to no difference to me. If anything early adoption of 8 was a nightmare for a lot of users. The only thing that doesnt work on the vodatv properly is amazon prime but hopefully with amazon and google making up this will change soon. Everything else has sideloaded and worked fine.

      • +2

8 is more futureproof when apps stop supporting 7

      • I have amazon Prime running on my vodafone TV, did you use the Sony TV version?

        • Not sure i tried about 5 or so different versions from around the place but they all had slight video or audio stutters i could not tolerate. Whirlpool thread seemed to indicate most people experienced same. Any chance you could PM me?

      • +1

I picked up a VTV recently and have Prime running nicely. I sideloaded an app called Aptoide TV, and then installed Prime from one of the options on there. Not sure what version right now but can check later.

…edit/update: Just checked the version of the Prime app I'm using. It's version 4.12.5-googleplay-armv7a
        Downloaded from Aptoide TV.
Maybe it'll work for you too!

        • Wish i saw this when you posted but coincidentally i installed 4.12.5 from a whirlpool link and agree it works much better. Previous versions even from aptoid had various issues, so this is fantastic progress and seriously makes the vtv box bang for buck king!

    • I was able to sideload kayo on Vodafone Tv I couldn't find the Android tv version online, it was only the mobile phone version which isn't the same. Anyway I installed it on my Mi box 3 and then copied it across after googling how to.

    • Android 7 will work for now until the apps stop supporting them, but that should still be a year or so away hopefully

  • +2

This box has a huge userbase thus I would assume Android 8 will be fully supported. Vodafone hit the nail with this media streamer. I have used everything from a Xiaomi MiBox to those cheap Android Chinese boxes. I even have an Apple TV 4K. The Vodafone Android box is just as polished and speedy as my Apple TV 4K. For around $50, it's a great media streamer. Buy a cheap USB or Bluetooth game controller and it also makes for a decent gaming device.

      +1

I've had Nexus Player, Bravia TV, Mi Box 3, Shield TV and Voda TV now, Shield's obviously the best but Vodafone TV is by far the closest to it, very stable software, performance is good, remote is good, CEC works well.. not much to complain about when it even plays 4K HDR from Plex without any issues!

    • The big price drop it looks like vodafone is running them out and probably wont be supporting them

I havent seen a single update on my vodafone TV, but the Mi Box gets an update nearly weekly

      • +1

        If it ain't broke..

        • A lot of updates are for security vulnerable. I am concerned how many are missing on the vodafone, leaving it a little open for a device that is accessing the internet

    • Totally agree with this.

  • +1

Does it support Netflix HDR ?

    • +1

foxtel box is less than useless, have you used it before? just because they say it runs android, doesnt mean you can use all the features

foxtel blocks most good features, including installing netflix and kodi

      • Agreed that VTV is better but not hard to sideload Netflix on the Foxtel Now box. You can't Chromecast live games from the Optus Sport app to the Foxtel Now box though which kills it for me.

        • +2

          so….

save a few dollars, buy a completely crippled Foxtel box and be at their mercy for now and forever in the future when/if they decide to lock more stuff down or just kick you off…. or just buy the vodafone box for a few dollars more where they let you do anything you want with it

          Foxtel never learn

    • +4

You might as well just throw $60 out of your car window

  • +3

    Better buy new at $72

  • just get a chromecast for 30 bucks

  • How does this compare to Telstra TV?
    Here is a review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuAtuEiBRhA&t=763s

    • telstra requires a contract, so that's a dealbreaker right there!

    • Different OS, and limited ability to add apps on telstra TV

  • +2

Voda tv is the best Android box that I ever had.
    High recommended.

  • Already sold out??? 120units in 1 hour??…huh?

    • -1

There were 10 available at time of posting

      • all gobbled up

  • Is it still the case that there is no SBS or channel 9 catchup streaming apps for the VTV? Is that a way to get them?

    • +1

Both 9Now and SBS are now available in the Play Store AFAIK.

Also, Kayo and a new Foxtel Now app are available at link below:

      https://mega.nz/#F!PaJQELqY!dg3wVzOFIybj6an5Yeq7PA

In other semi-related news, for those with a Shield or Mi Box, there is now a "Refresh Rate" tool available that allows you to set a default refresh rate per app (which switches automatically), and assign a button on the remote to bring up an OSD menu for quick manual in app refresh rate switching:

      https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1105215/shield-tv/-…

      • Interesting! Now we need a matrix to make it clear what is what fps/hz, or are we saying this app will automatically adjust each time based on the content? I believe Netflix library as an example is a huge mixed back of frame rates.

        • It will auto adjust per app, but I believe almost all of Netflix content is 23.976p, so set Netflix to use that, and for the odd video that isn't that, you can manually change it easily with the remote button or home screen shortcut.

    • You have to sideload channel 9 i think it is, there should be a sony apk for it

      • Cheers Kirt.

    • I am sure that SBS and 9Now, as well as 7Plus is available.

BUT… I don't use them. VTV also has Chromecast built in and I find it's so much quicker to find the shows on my phone, start playing and then google cast to it.

  • +1

Thanks OP bought a couple more !!

  • I will get this when my mibox dies.
Or shield i become a slightly richer.

  • Just came here to say this little device is brilliant. I paid 72 and couldn't be happier.
If I had the funds I'd buy a couple more they're that good. Sideloading is a pinch, and everything I need is perfect.

Can't decide whether to persist with my raspberry pi on the other tv now.
