Newsdemon are offering Usenet Unlimited for $35, 1TB MONTHLY for $25/Year, and 4TB block for $35 (all USD).

Pretty solid prices if you aren't on any other providers.

The 1TB monthly is especially good if your usage is a bit lower.

Got ripped off by these guys in last years GoT special….

    • +1

      Care to elaborate?

basically they had a GoT special last year that was a one off block that "guaranteed" was non renewing… then they renewed at full price..(five days before the non-renewing block expired). and wouldn't reply to my emails

This was the text with the ad

        NON-RECURRING, NON-RENEWING
        USE COUPON CODE: EASTWATCH
Get Our Unlimited USENET package for an entire month for only $3
This account will not renew, once the month is up, so is the subscription. No recurring payments to worry about!

        • +2

Sounds like you bought a plan rather than a prepaid block.

        • Did you then do a credit card / paypal chargeback to recover your money? (assuming you did nothing wrong)

talk to the owner @ reddit

Firstly, ownership has changed since 2018 which is after when you complained about 'being scammed'. It's 2019 and NewsDemon/NewsgroupDirect/UsenetExpress are all one company now. For example they no longer kick people off for downloading 2TB a month on their 'unlimited' plans.

Secondly, blocks DO NOT RENEW. Blocks are ONCE OFF. You did not buy a block, you bought a plan.

@fishball: I clicked on the link with the advert and then they added a PayPal subscription (I didn't realise at the time). They wouldn't reply to my emails. When I contacted PayPal and they didn't want to help (I had authorised the subscription unknowingly and they didn't want to help).

The advert was pretty specific about not renewing (like it says as 3 times!)

Sorry but for me once scammed not interested forever!

              @bobby1234:

I clicked on the link with the advert and then they added a PayPal subscription

So you bought a plan, case closed.

@crayner: "This account will not renew, once the month is up, so is the subscription. No recurring payments to worry about!"

So you admit it is a scam, they tricked people into signing up for a plan but said it wasn't?

              • +1

@crayner: Harsh, even if the guy made a mistake they could've helped.

          • @fishball: That explains it, I was wondering why price has gone up

        • +1

I made the same mistake as you: I paid US$2 for 500GB. Unfortunately for me, it was a monthly plan. As with all internet merchants, I removed the recurring payment from paypal ASAP and they also agreed to fully refund me.

These days I only purchase blocks. They are so cheap (and the specials reoccur on a near-weeekly basis) that I can't imagine anyone but the heaviest downloader from needing an unlimited plan.

  • What is their service like? As in how do they compare to say Astraweb or Usenet Farm?

    • +1

I've used all 3, Newsdemon is better

      • Thanks, might get their 4TB block in that case. :)

    • Astraweb is bottom of the barrel now from what I’ve read on Reddit. The usenet Reddit is a create resource.

What is this? 4g, nbn, VPN but confused

    • +3

      le sigh

    • Same thing like xdcc, torrent

      • Is xdcc good in comparison?

    • You’re no less confused than the people saying UsEnEt Is LiKe tOrReNtS

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet

  • Wish there was a cheaper or trial type offer. Never used one of these services before so I don't have any expectations.

  • Anyone else suspicious that the warrant canary is almost two months out of date?

  • Newsdemon uses the same backbone as Astraweb.
    https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/wiki/providers#wiki_hw_media

  • im finding it impossible to download anything thats almost 40 days old really. Just comes up incomplete. I moved to usenet farm, and I was on Astraweb before that.

Why is that? Usenet was never that bad back in the day!

    • DMCA.

Have you tried buying a supplementary block with another backbone provider?

      • are Astra and Farm on the same backbone?

Do apps like SABnzb automatically move to another block(Astra) if the primary account(Farm) fails?

  • Yes sabnzb will go to secondary. You can Googlea provider map and which back bone they use. From memory Astra has its own however it's been ages since I've checked and people say they have changed.
