Newsdemon Unlimited Usenet + VPN USD $3.85p/m ~AUD$5.05

151

Hi all, this wasn't posted earlier so thought I'd jump in.

I've been a happy newsdemon user for sometime, at $5pm or so this is a great price. I currently pay $12 for same service, so am resigning at a lower price. Never had issues with them for years, they don't cancel accounts, which was a flagged issue with this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/344041. Newsdemon maximises my Telstra HFC connection, I get 12MB/s 24/7

Note I have experienced some bad completions, which I suspect is usenet wide so having the backup VPN is very handy. I use the Atlanta server with SlickVPN as it is the fastest (approximately 2MB/s top speed).

  • How does it compare with thundernews?

    • Never tried thundernews, was with Astraweb previous to this.

Cheers OP, was paying $7.70 a month from the last cyber deal which didn’t include VPN.

Never had an issue with newsdemon, never skips a beat for me.

I was paying the same amount and just changed over as well. Was also paying for PIA and no longer need that so canned that as well.
      Thanks heaps OP.

Be careful with these guys…. very happy to take you money but zero customer service if anything goes wrong (not bad customer service… zero).

    • I've only had to use customer support a couple of times over the last few years as a customer, but they always got back to me within the 24 hours they state.

Unfortunately that hasn't been my experience. Wanted to try them out with a $3 special that clearly stated it was a one month only would not continue in the ad. About a week before the month ended they charged my $12 for next months subscription. Didn't reply to any emails just ignored me. Turns out the $3 signup with PayPal added a $12 subscription into PayPal to automatically deduct monthly payments….. so not touching them with a barge pole now!

        • Yeah that sounds crap!

        • They do by default subscribe you to auto payments, and although that information is right there in front of you once you sign up, it's not displayed in a way to make you read. It's with a bunch of other info so you need to be careful.

        • @snuke:

This was the text with the ad

          NON-RECURRING, NON-RENEWING
          USE COUPON CODE: EASTWATCH
Get Our Unlimited USENET package for an entire month for only $3
This account will not renew, once the month is up, so is the subscription. No recurring payments to worry about!

        • @bobby1234:

That seems pretty bloody clear, dodgy bastards.

  • Been out the loop for a while with Usenet. Are nzb websites still required or are other using automated programs to get content?

    • +1

You will still need an indexer, whether automated or not. I use gingadaddy and newztown, and automated downloads to my NAS via Sonarr and couchpotato.

  • Has anyone had success changing their plan to this deal or have you had to cancel your existing plan/account and start all over again? I've tried clicking on the offer where it says to change plan but it just gives me the current more expensive price

    • I have three accounts with them due to this. New account with every deal, bloody stupid.

    • Yeah just sign up to a new deal and then cancel the old account, easy. I pay via PayPal so if you’re paranoid you can cancel the auto direct debit with them.

  • I've signed up as a new customer, will cancel my existing subscription tonight.

    • If you are having completion issues, then a VPN shouldn't make a difference. Users normally use a secondary block account from a different provider as a backup in those situations.

I use a VPN to find the files I need outside of usenet if I struggle with completion.
