Here's one for people who still like to break out a film camera every now and then and take photos the old fashioned way. This seems like a great price for 3 packs of Kodak 400 film (24 exposures in each). Usually these film rolls go for about $10 each elsewhere, or about $25 in a 3 pack, so just over $12 for 3 seem like a solid deal.

Item is now on Back order - expected shipping 1-2 months.

I should buy one just to sniff the canister for nostalgic reasons…

    What's this?

      Hi ho Silver.

        Hey, lied Silver?

        • I get it.

Ah, this brings on some nostalgia from 20 years ago. Thanks for sharing.

  • -1

    They still sell these

    • +3

Lots of photographers shoot both film and digital.

Those photographers are incredibly picky on what film they use though. Not sure if this stuff is any good or not.

  • +1

Well then! This is a blast from the past!

  • +5

    You know what! I’m in!
Crack the old Canon AE-1 out.

    Who still does processing?

    • +2

Last time i process was at big w years ago. Not sure if they still do it or not.
My AE-1 needs servicing unfortunately, my Nikon FE2 will step in then.

    • +3

Many Big Ws and K-Marts still send them off but be prepared to wait a while, otherwise Teds Cameras or specialist photography stores do them in house.

    • And that is the issue… who will process it and at what price? (unless they send it off, then be prepared to wait)

      • The wait isn’t a problem. Considering if we wanted instant photos, our digital cams would be the go :P

      • +4

Depends where you live. There's a camera shop near me that processes them for $5 within an hour, so not really an issue. As Owgasm said though, if your main concern is getting photos instantly then there are plenty of other options.

        • Where is your local?

I’ve moved to Sydney and I’m assuming I have more options now.
There was only one place I went to in Brisbane and they closed a few years before I left.

      • My local Big W does colour only and sends it away for a month. I can't remember the price but minimum $9.95.

you get CD, prints and negative.

For B&W, I used to do my own processing.

        • Wow a whole month. I was assuming a few weeks.
Makes it even more exciting I guess!

      • I get mine processed at Big W, $15 for develop and print (with cd or usb) for 36 exposures. Takes 14 business days as they send off site.
Alternatively, Camera Warehouse seem to have a 4hr turnaround for $22.50 but don't know if that includes a soft copy of the photos.

    • +2

I'm extremely happy with Rewind Photo Lab in Sydney.

      • How much do they charge for 24exposure?

        • +3

Just Dev for $7.50, Dev + Scan for $13, Dev + Print for $15

They have a loyalty card too, every 8th is free.

          • @chaoman01: Great! How’s their turn over time?
            Dev and print sounds great!

            • +2

@Owgasm: I always just pick it up the next day so not too sure how much quicker they go than that. I like the vibe there too - it's a good middle ground between the dodgy big w and super expensive hipster wank.

    • +3

      Sydney: Rewind
      QLD: Racquet
      Melbourne: Ikigai

Usually around $7.5/roll, + shipping if you decide to ship to them rather than drop off in person. The real cost is getting your negatives scanned.

The highlight of this post is spot on.

The comments here are really 'developing'.

      • +4

I hope it doesn't get blown out in post-processing

        There's no rewinding our comments

    • +1

      These puns make me shutter.

  • +1

This would be an excellent deal if the exposure is 36.
ps: I grabbed 4 packs though I don't really have much time to spend on film shooting recently. To my hobby lol.

    • For some reason they seem to have settled on 24. Stretching out every last cent I guess.

  • This id a "vintage" deal

  • 4x36 exposures is only $17.98 on Amazon.com, is there anyway we can get at that?

  • it would be better to buy black and white film as you can process it yourself using rodinal developer and get better grain. those big w kmart bulk developers will ruin your films or even scratch it and at 400 iso it going to be really grainy.

  • +2

    better deal

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Fujifilm-Fujicolor-Color-Negative-…

    3 x 36 exp and lower iso @ $18.06

    • Nice, feedback though says people have only gotten one roll?

    • How is that a better deal? Both work out to be 16 cents per exposure and that one ships from the US rather than AU and requires a $50 spend for free postage even if you have prime?

      • +2

Because dev cost is usually per roll not per frame

  • +2

Simpler times. When a selfie took a week, 2 trips to the chemist and $11.50.

    • Better times I’d say.

    • Very few people back then were narcissistic enough to take a selfie, let alone an entire roll of selfies. lol

  • unbelievable that this thing is still on the shelf.

  • +1

If she doesn't know what this is, she's too young!

A guy I knew used to apply that approach in real life, only with cassette tapes :)

  • i bought kodak film from kmart last year, dont think its was much more than this. used 2 of the 3 rolls, havent gotten any of them developed as i think there only a newsagency in the city that will develop (at a price without a hipstser tax) and i dont go into the city consecutively to drop off and pick up.

    • Not sure what you paid last year but my local K-Mart currently sells this for $25 rather than $12.

  • +2

    Showing $22.45 for me

    • I am getting the same price as well.

    • The AU site is out of current stock so it is defaulting to a different seller. You can still choose the $12.27 price from Amazon AU but shipping is now reading as 1-2 months.

  • UPDATE The AU site is out of current stock so the link is defaulting to a different (more expensive) seller. You can still choose the $12.27 price from Amazon AU but shipping is now reading as 1-2 months. Ozbargained!

  • I shot a lot on T-Max and loved it. I assume this is a newer version.

Developing the film yourself is quite easy, but a bit expensive if you are only doing four.

    • +1

Tmax is bw. This is colour.

      • Ahh - just saw Max and jumped to a conclusion. Rookie error.

  • +1

If it was ISO 100, be all over it. Good price though.
Hard part is how old is the stock? Thats why you buy in person.

    • You would not see much difference beaten ISO 100 200 or 400. It's 2019 not 1980. And some photos can't be taken on ISO 100.

  • Buy a pack and show it to your kids. Ask them what it's used for and await the confused stares.

    • Hair rollers?

  • +1

Take a photo of your Leica being held by your Rolex'd wrist.

  • Buy film, test with Polaroid film or risk bad exposure, take the photo, send off to the lab, wait a week.. Or use digital. Plus if you are taking 1,000 photos = 1,000/24 = 42 rolls of film = $4.09 per roll = $172 for the film.

    • Or grab a decent exposure meter for your phone…

    Hi Mr Me450

Tomorrow Saturday 13th April 2019 is Record Store Day. Will JBHIFI have 20% off vinyl again? Just like your post last year. Thanks.
