  • It's $22,500 here

    What's the difference?
Yeah it's done 1000km but there's brand new for $22,900 here

    • +1

      Both manual 😂

      • +6

        SaveTheManuals 😁

        • +3

          Manual > Automatic

      • +3

So an improvement over the CVT then?

        • +1

Well, you can't get worse lol

  • +1

Platform is insanely old, might tempt me if it was a PHEV.

  • why the hell would car manufacturers have CVT when it sucks?

    • Most if not all have a cvt but the quality of them differs greatly

    • more fuel efficient

    • CVT transmissions are much cheaper to manufacture than Automatic transmissions. Less gears and material. Cost is King in the world of competition.

  • pffft. just get a mazda-cx5 like the rest of Aus. (and me) goooo Mazda!

  • +2

It's a nice car but I sill prefer the Dacia Sandero.

  • -1

Wouldn't recommend this care, pretty cheap overall. The rear row sucks btw, no air ventilation and squishy if you have anyone whos big.

    • I don't think there is one car at this price point, which has rear air vents- feel free to correct me.

      • -1

Yeh none, but u get what you pay for

      • skoda octavia RRP 0f $25,890 has rear air vents

  • +4

How did this shit make the front page. This is a very average price for an asx. I rekon we have bots or fake accounts upvoting

    • Are you a bot pretending to be not a bot, and are secretly upvoting? Mind blown.

      • +1

If I was a robot I'd be one of those sick Boston robotics dogs with the giraffe necks.

  • +3

I honestly don't understand how this is a deal. I've been looking at the Mitsubishi asx for a few months now and have seen an auto asx brand new cheaper than this. I didn't think it was worthy posting as each dealership was a different price.

I'm going to wait for the Mazda cx30, Volkswagen t-roc or even kia's new small suv to come out later this year.

    • Mazda CX30??? What body type is that? Cx3?

      • +1

Its a small suv.. but bigger than a cx3 and smaller than a cx5. Its coming out soon. Looks nice! Kia hav now put up a few details about their small suv on their website.. looks like a range rover evoque!

        • Am not a fan of "in-betweens" even more confusion for me lol, CX30 boot layout seems like CX3 nonethless/hatchback on stilletos.

RE: new Kia small SUV - now that's more like it, with recycled design! Does it have a name :P

          • @capslock janitor: Nah the boot space in the cx30 is considerably more than the cx3. That's one reason why I never considered the cx3.. Boot space is poor. The front of the cx30 looks very much like a cx5.

Yes, I love the look of the new kia small suv. No name yet as far as I know. But looks niiiiice. I imagine that's probably the top model they've shown on the website.

  • -2

I love the handy dial in centre console to switch between 2WD and 4WD…. wait, my mistake, that's only in real SUVs. This one is 2WD only and therefore sucks. I would not trust it in wet conditions. Just like you can't trust a real SUV in wet conditions in 2Wd mode. 4WD increases your traction and reduces skidding by a huge margin on wet roads.

    • +2

so what? there are plenty of fwd and rwd cars on the road and they cope just fine in the wet. it's not like you are racing on public roads.

I wonder how people in parts of the world that get a lot of wet weather cope with 2wd cars lol

      Don't be ridiculous mate.

      • I'm referring to the higher centre of gravity of an SUV compared with normal car. Heavier weight, and distribution of that weight means they don't perform as well in front wheel drive / 2WD mode on gravel or wet roads. How do I know? I've been driving an SUV for many years, and you can't rely on their performance in the wet or gravel in 2WD mode. I'm aware that this "SUV" is smaller and lighter, and almost basically like a normal car, so it may not be as much a factor in this case. This is why I ridicule their marketing decision to call it an SUV.

        • How many other SUV you’ve driven?

          • @capslock janitor: Only my mitsubishi outlander. In the end, it doesn't matter, but I would opt for the 4WD version of this ASX, and diesel, as you get 6sp auto. If you just drive to the shops and back, then get the 2WD. But we live in Australia, where it's fun to go on adventures. If you go on adventures, you'll want power delivered to all 4 wheels, which obviously improves traction.

  • +1

    Suzuki Jimny anyone?
    If you are a single…

    • +3

… and want to stay that way.

  • Any recommended 7 seater?

    • 30k outlander

  • +1

I keep reading this as "Mitsubishi Australian Securities Exchange"…

  • Out of stock! OzBargained!!! We've done it girls & boys!!!!

    /s

  • I have a 2012 ASX. It suits us but am really holding out for a OzBargain deal on a G Wagon.

  • +2

Driving this car is soul destroying. Direct your $25k elsewhere.

  • +2

Meh people talking about same platform for ages blah blah blah but Toyota uses the same engine in the Corolla for over 10+ years no one bats an eyelid.

  • Beats me why anyone would buy this over a outlander which comes with 7 seats as standard for around 3k more brand new. A lot more space and slightly more powerful too.

  • Can't say I'm too keen on buying a Bitsamissy

  • Hows this compared to the MG Zs? I got quoted 18k for a ZS with 7 year warranty and 5 years servicing…

    • MG

Are they still around? There guys don't know when to quit.

    • +1

The MG is Chinese and cheap

      Doesn't compare

  • I feel like Mitsubishi has missed an opportunity here? If they made it $500 cheaper it would have been under the $25k instant asset write off allowance.

    • Isn’t it $30k now? I’ve been contemplating it but need to talk to my accountant about FBT implications.

    • +4

Instant asset write off excludes GST and is now up to $30k from $25k. It has already been passed by the Senate so will be made law. I have been watching this closely as am due to upgrade from my last vehicle which I wrote off(accounting wise not crash wise) when$20k 3 years ago. Was using the $25k barrier to get a deal - some dealers wouldn’t budge (mostly Qld) and some are willing to move considerably. Ended up buying a brand new Nissan Qashqai ST-L in NSW for not much more than this Mitsi but WAY more features. Excluding GST it came in under the old $25k mark. Nissan dealers seem very receptive to clear stock before EOFY. Another tip is to look for a dealer in the AHG group as they are ‘merging’ with AP Eagers and appear happy to increase sales numbers ;-). Also, for tax purposes, buy something white and practical - let’s just say that they seem to focus on flashy and impractical or dual(cab 4x4) use.

      • Cheers for the info Pete!

  • Falls nicely into the instant tax write off for small business.

  • Thanks OP bought one, will look at buying another one just as a backup

  • +1

Mitsubishi CVT auto transmission - (from personal experience) - think long and hard before you inflict that one on yourself folks…

  • +1

Great value. But wake me up when there is an proper EV under $30k.

    • +1

      !RemindMe in 2030

  • looking at the ES Sport as my kid's first car 21990, what you you start the negotiation at? Im no expert in this sort of the field

    • +1

Don't buy your kid a brand new car as their first car would be sage advice…

      • 2 kids and maybe the wife driving it around for the shopping. Right now i only have 1 car

  • +1

I reckon in about 5 years time we will see EV’s being more mainstream and getting much cheaper.
These petrol cars and SUV’s will be like a DVD player, still works fine but no one wants or uses them unless they really have to.
Car makers know this and need to shift all these acres of old tech and pump out more to pay off the assembly line tooling before really ramping up the EV’s.

I bought an SR5 dual cab d4d Hilux with everything on it that cost the owner $65k for $34k last year. When EV’s come out in numbers, think it will plummet to mid teens and they will still need diesel Utes so I reckon the petrol cars and SUV’s might be near worthless like DVD’s almost are. Could take longer than 5 years.

    • Are you Bill Shorten in disguise? 10yrs till EV is 50% of the market? 😂

Yeah… Gonna be longer than that

      • +1

Oh ye of little faith. It's just because the mainstream manufacturers haven't made a decent EV yet. The Tesla Model 3 is going to eat the entire mid range luxury market when it launches here. You wont be able to sell a 3 series or C class for love or money.

        • Yeah… Tesla isn't going to make up 50% of the market 😂

          • +1

@spackbace: Nope, but they'll start it. Toyota (your company), is going to lose huge market share, because they are way behind the 8 ball when it comes to EVs. VW will introduce their proper E golf in 2 years (VW iD) and it's all over red rover. That's a budget EV with good specs.

The Model 3 has decimated 3/A/C class/series sales in the USA and most countries it has launched in.

            • @[Deactivated]: Really, you don't think Toyota would know how to develop a full EV? Like the tech behind hybrid is that different from a full EV? It's just more batteries and bigger electric motors

              https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_RAV4_EV

(with help from Tesla on that one, but in 1997!)

They're always looking to newer stuff. The amount they spend on R&D is insane.
Toyota made their hybrid tech freely available this week, Tesla did the same recently with theirs.

Besides Tesla, I'd put my money on Toyota developing the next affordable option in a non-petrol vehicle. No one else comes close to the tech that those 2 companies have developed in the field.

That's a budget EV with good specs

Given current (ridiculous) EV asking prices, how can you even speculate on a selling price of something 2yrs away?

Can I buy your crystal ball?

              • +2

@spackbace: Yes I think that Toyota are not capable of developing an EV to compete with the best at this stage. Hybrid and EV tech is very different, to say it’s just bigger batteries is foolish. Toyota put their eggs in the hydrogen basket, which didn’t pan out, so they recently signed an agreement with Panasonic to work on EV batteries, but they are at best 3 or 4 years behind and probably more like 10 years behind. Put it this way, companies like Mercedes, BMW and VW have all spent billions designing their EVs, and not one of them has matched the performance, efficiency and highway range of any of the Tesla EVs. Nissan who has been in the game almost as long haven’t even come close. Tesla is on their 4th generation/iteration, Nissan on their 2nd, Audi on their first. It makes a huge difference. The Tesla Mode 3 is a superior EV to pretty much anything on or planned to be on the market in the next few years. As an example, the Model 3 performance, which will cost about $100k here when it lands, matches the upcoming (and very late) Porsche Taycan in a straight line, (and is probably similar around a track), is about the same size, has 50% more range, has autopilot and will costs half as much as the Taycan. Oh, and because it is so much more efficient than the Taycan, it can probably charge at the same km/h as the Taycan even though Tesla sueprchaeger V3s ‘only’ manage 250kw vs 350kw max for the Taycan.

In terms of price, VW has said that the ID will be the same price as a diesel Golf. And the ID has similar range and charging speed to a generation 2 Tesla Model S60. Perfectly useable for most people.

Toyota has never been at the forfront of Tech. They make well made, reliable transportation, but their cars are usually 10 year behind the market leaders. They won’t catch up with battery tech anytime soon.

        • Tell him he's dreaming. Model 3 is nowhere near the quality of a 3 series. Not to mention the lack of infrastructure.

          • @[Deactivated]: There are superchargers from Adelaide to Noosa. What else do you need? You charge them at home at night, superchargers are for long distance travel. And read reports about the quality of a Model 3, most reports peg them at the same level as a 3 series.

I can tell you that despite what every keyboard warrior will want you to believe, a Model S is every bit a match for an E class Mercedes in terms of quality. They share a shitload of components for a start.

    • I bought an SR5 dual cab d4d Hilux with everything on it that cost the owner $65k for $34k last year.

How old is the car? One year old for 34k, that's a steal.

    • +1

The Hyundai ionic is 60k and falling… I think 5 years is spot on.

  • +1

If you're going to get a Mitsubishi small suv.. I honestly think the eclipse Cross is a better buy. It's not the greatest looking car, but hey, look how many more safety features it has. Ive also seen some demo's under 25k with the sports pack

  • +1

Anyone care to compare to Toyota RAV4?

    • Current or New Gen?

Bottom line ASX is small SUV, whereas RAV4 is medium.

      • Yes current. Checked it out a bit too small. Not really apples with apples. Thanks

  • Meh… Outlander has plenty of room, 4wd and ADAS safety models and can be had runout for very little more than this price.

  • Can't understand why anyone would buy one of these over a wagon. Same or more room and drives like a car rather than a wallowing turtle. I

  • OP, you really using the term "giving away" way too loosely here =.=. Giving away is like buying a Tesla model X at that ASX price. Plus ASX is like a pretender suv, more like wannabe suv like Toyota CHR..

Seriously guys, 100+ wanna buy this at that price.. Wow.

  • +2

So why has OzBargain suddenly become full of rude entitled snobs? If I wanted to read all of this crap I would've gone over to the Automotive section of Whirlpool.
