hey hey hey mine is happy ;)
I have this fridge- it makes me happy every single day. Sounds ridiculous, but it's true.
It has marvellous internal capacity considering its modest external dimensions. If you are constrained by a smaller fridge space but need a big fridge, don't waste days touring around looking at fridges- this one is the best IMO and this price is very good.
Bonus for us is it's not plumbed, but has an auto ice drawer. I love it.
for this price, I will go to the poles, get you ice, row it back to your house, and even cube it.
This is exactly the scene I was thinking about when I wrote the comment haha!!
If you can think of a better way to get ice, I'd like to hear it.
My wife and I saw a similar fridge from Mitsubishi at a store and it made me happy just having a look and opening the doors and drawers and trying out the features and imagining what it would be like to own it. I think I was happier than my lady was. Then I went home to my regular fridge and got sad because I now know what I'm missing out on.
I feel you…I wanted a Mitsubishi fridge more than my lady did!
but did you want a Mitsubishi fridge more than your lady?
@bigtop1: I see what you did there! đ
How can it make ice without being plumbed?
It would likely have a water tank inside. I have a non-plumbed LG fridge and it typically needs refilling every 3 days in my household.
How is that better than plumbed?
@Phesto: Well, if you're renting, or don't have the funds to get a plumber to install a tap behind your fridge, it's way better than plumbed (because you'll get ice without needing a tap).
@Phesto: Easier to clean, less chance of having mildewy tasting ice
@Phesto: You can refill with filtered water using bargain Brita Maxtra filters.
@Phesto: Reliability, ease of install, easier to keep clean. I have a different Mitsubishi with an ice drawer that works the same way, it's great
@Phesto: It's not.
@Phesto: When you're at work and your plumbed fridge springs a leak you'll wish you got the none plumbed fridge.
@Phesto: Plumbers loved plumbed in fridges.
Because people love to be seen to have them, and they have loads of issues, easy repeat business.
@nzcoops: A plumber would only be needed to install the tap. I wouldnât typically call a plumber to inspect anything related to the fridge. If there are any issues with the tap they there, they can address workmanship.
@Bren20: lol yeah you and me perhaps
But loads of people just call the plumber when they see a puddle of water emerging from under the fridge every 9-18 months, thus the ticket gets clipped.
@Phesto: Had a Samsung plumbed ice maker.
I'll take the Mitsubishi removable water tank over the the Samsung.
The Samsung plumbed ice maker ate up so much space in the freezer.
It has a water tank that can be filled manually.
Can the water rank be removed and cleaned?
@moo: Yes
We also have this fridge+freezer and the only thing we wish was that the vegetable drawer and the freezer drawer locations were swapped.
And we had to remove one shelf to make it work for us.
The ice maker is the most used function..
Had to modify the kitchen cabinetry as itâs tall!
Itâs also amazingly quiet.
This is a great price compared to what we paid for it 6 months ago..
Can confirm, it's absolutely cavernous. Deep enough to fit 2 hotel pans on the bottom shelf in fact.
Just be aware of the size of it. Ours lives in our garage because it's too big for the space in our current kitchen
The 400l is regular fridge sized and it's great
Small fridge? This is "McMansion fridge" and not a "Tiny House fridge"!
To clarify- I have a small 1960's kitchen with what was a standard 850mm wide fridge space. This is a large capacity fridge with unusually small external measurements, so it's perfect for many people. But, it's not for everyone.
To use your words, I have a tiny house sized fridge space but need a large fridge. This sure beats renovating my kitchen or having another fridge or in my garage!
Great price on the 470L as well ($2957)
Mitsubishi Electric 470L Multi Drawer Fridge MR-WX470F-S-A
https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/mitsubishi-electâŚ
The white one is a little cheaper too. I've had my 470l for a couple of years now and love it. I use the ice multiple times a day.
I paid $3436 for that model a year ago
Awesome fridge for the size. We had limited space due to the cabinetry and every other fridge this size was only ~300L capacity.
We got ours in white for $2547 2 years ago
Have this fridge and it's awesome. The dimensions are quite smaller than expected due to the different walling this uses - so you'll have more capacity for less room on this one.
Pretty pricey for sure though.
The auto ice thing is nice enough, had a plumbed connection previously and don't really miss it.
Took a bit to get used to the tray arrangement, frozen stuff is in one of the bottom drawers instead of a side - it also means the freezer is less capacity than you would expect, so be careful that bit is big enough.
Yep, that was our main disappointment - freezer space. Also, the menu system and manual are pretty hard to figure out.
Not really sure how much there is to figure out.
Once you work out the set points weâve never needed to touch the manual again..
Hi just to confirm it cannot be plumbed?
No, it cannot be plumbed, but the ice makerâs jug is really big. We never run out of ice and only have to refill it about once a month.
Thank you.
I know it's supposed to have 1cm either side, but would it fit in an 80cm width and let you open the doors?
@DingoBlue: It sticks out more from our fridge cavity because itâs deeper, which keeps the door unobstructed. You might just want to check if thereâs enough space in front for your walkway
Yeah, you need to read the spec sheet to compare freezer size. There is the extra small drawer that is a freezer too. Great feature to use it is the soft freezer mode - so you can easily cut frozen stuff
my mitsubishi fridge is 15 years old and still going strong.
If you want to make your lady happy, maybe buy her a Hitachi instead of a Mitsubishi.
we checked both side by side in store
Hitachi was great but the Mit is in another level of fit and finish…. the front glass was more resistant to fingerprints as well
In store testing of the hitachi? May have to check it out
we saw both at Harvey Normann
@CrazyTachikoma: They are referring to a vibrator where one of the most famous brands is Hitachi
@illusion99: ohhhh
that works too haha
@CrazyTachikoma: We'll have to admit defeat this time.
Can't beat Harvey's range if they are stocking these next to their fridges.
@AppliancesOnline.com.au: hey I bought with you guys haha
but yeah in store demonstration on how to use the Hitachi would def attract a lot of people
I think you might find Hitachi is also famous for making other electronics that might make your lady happy ;)
My wife is Japanese and didn't like the idea of the Mitsubishi, but when I told her there was Hitachi (fridge! Definitely the fridge), she drooled all over. The only difference between them I saw was the Hitachi had a vacuum sealed drawer in the main fridge section and the Mitsubishi didn't.
They're spoiled for choice over in Japan. Unfortunately we don't get many Japanese appliances in Australia as most people aren't prepared to pay the extra for quality.
@JIMB0: But my $9 rice cooker is just fine. /s
Whoosh
Wow very expensive. What .ake this mitsubishi more expensier than similar size lg or samsung or electrolux fridges. Must be something unique in this fridge.
made in Japan for starters, very robust but I never had an expensive LG / Samsung to compare…
it is simple tho, no screens nor any fancy tech, seems like all budget went into building a fridge you can pass on when you die
Youâre also paying a premium not just for the build quality but the advanced features.
And the 10y warranty.
With that said, while this fridge is expensive itâs nowhere close to the âhigh endâ of the built in fridge prices..
Not all I reckon some are made in Thailand
My one is LX564
They've been making the split-system aircons in Thailand for over a decade now and they hold up well, I've seen plenty of them run 24/7 for 10 years in switch rooms.
@JIMB0: Thanks wasn sure what to expect.
better / higher grade of insulation, allowing thinner walls / larger internal space and/or smaller outside dimensions..
My MR-LA635ER-GDS-A is made in Thailand
the dimension. just 800mm in width means it fits into most fridge spaces designed for single door fridge. It's 200L more volume than other similar sized fridge.
Your paying for better design and tech - its slimmer and fits in smaller spaces well yet it is very energy efficient. The other brands have very thick drawers etc - however this model is very slimline. Also, made in Japan.
Mitsubishi is the Toyota of fridges.
finally here! make your lady happy
we got our Lemair 260L fridge (brand new) delivered for $100 or so, 6.5 years ago. she is still very happy with that. but she will be very happy to keep this amount of money in the offset account. ;)
I bought this after renovating my kitchen. You get the biggest bang for your buck in terms of external to internal volume. So you get a lot of fridge space but it takes relatively small amount of space in your kitchen. I designed my kitchen to fit the fridge and space is at a premium. My new kitchen cost me $20k, so $3.5k is relatively small beans.
Where did you get kitchen for 20k? Including install? Keen to know as I'm looking to renovate my kitchen too
Does it have a filtered water dispenser model?
Yeah this fridge plumbed in with a water dispenser would be great.
Yup. I use mine everyday, so keen on getting a replacement sincey LG fridge is on the 11yr mark.
Nope.
Itâs not designed to be plumbed in. And thatâs a big feature that it doesnât need to be.
Youâd need to have a water jug in the door like we do..
no.
No. I think its intentional to maximise fridge space. The walls are more efficient but thinner to give you more room.
I have this fridge for about 10 years and it's been great. But now it's constantly leaking water at the bottom draw
Have you contacted the company and if so what is their response?
I have not contacted as I assume I no longer have warranty
might be an easy / common / cheap fix
Australian consumer law would apply. Also companies selling premium products such as this tend to be very helpful rectifying product defects.
@bargain_knight: I think even quoting stat warranty you would be hard pressed to get too much after 10 yrs given the current state of appliance lifetimes.
no harm in asking anyway
Is it still the same fridge model with the same technology after 10 years?
One of the best fridges money can buy.
I've had the 500+ litre version for 11 years. It's very versatile. The ice drawer works well. The veg compartment is really good as it's not quite as cold as the fridge, so nothing will freeze as you get with normal fridges that stupidly put the veg drawer at the bottom of the fridge part - the coldest part.
Although you can't fit a lot of big bottles upright in the fridge you can put them in the lowest compartment. Doors will take a 3 litre milk.
Its either one of these or a Hitachi. For this money, you cant go wrong.
We also compared this to the Hitachi model and the Mitsubishi came out ahead..
What made the Mitsubishi better?
I can tell you why I didn't pick the Mitsi -
I was looking at this Mitsi (and honestly, this is an awesome price)
https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/mitsubishi-electâŚ
The one I got:
https://www.harveynorman.com.au/hitachi-735l-black-glass-finâŚ
Note - I got the above Hitachi for $3200 minus $1200 on GCs - I was happy :D
@Benoffie: Thanks for your review. For that price I wish it had a water dispenser. I can go without a ice maker, but having the versatility of having filter water without having to fill up a brita jug all the time makes it a must for me.
@BlitzR: Completely understand and it's a debate we're having atm (which water jug to buy - đ¤)
But the ice draw for us has been a game changer. We are all iced latte nuts and she cranks ice like nothing else. In fact, having that in Japan was one of the reasons I started looking for a new fridge
@Benoffie: https://www.bigw.com.au/product/brita-water-filter-flow-caskâŚ
I have that sitting in my Mitsu, easy to fill the ice-maker water vessel with or straight into a cup. Takes up a bit of space but have been happy with the trade-off for that extra volume of water.
@bxpressiv: Cheers for the recommendation!
@Benoffie: The cask will have a faster flow rate than most plumbed fridges too.
I had extensively researched the 2 when I bought mine.
The Mitsubishi's main freezer / ice maker / "quick freeze" drawer are 3 separate compartments, The Hitachi's are all sharing the same compartment.
The common fishy/rotten meat odor on the ice that I usually frown upon from common shared compartment freezers doesn't happen on the Mits. The "quick freeze" compartment also allows its own temperature/freeze settings making it useful for its namesake.
Whereas Hitachi is essentially 3 different drawers for the exact same freezer. It does gives it a larger internal capacity (735L vs Mits 700L), and a "vacuum" compartment. But imo its effect at 0.8atm is questionable, and it's another mechanical part / seal that is prone to fail.
The choice is yours to make!
To make ma lady happy really costly
Waiting for this to be sub $3k after using giftcards and possible cashback in the future
sounds like an advertising tagline from the 1950s
