Asus 31.5-Inch Eye Care WQHD IPS Monitor VA32AQ $348 @ Harvey Norman

680

This deals just arrived via my PriceHipster subscription (I bought this model for $398 using my 28-degrees card, so I can claim it now).
Anyway, I own this monitor and I like it, in my opinion, it is a really good price for such big 32" IPS 1440P monitor.

  • decent monitor, 32 inch 2k monitor with an ips panel, decent price. Website doesn't say refresh rate or response time though.

    • I doubt it's any higher than 60Hz

      • -6

and probably terrible response time due to it being IPS but hey, it'll be a awesome monitor if you're watching movies and not playing hardcore FPS games.

        • +1

IPS can get a 4ms gtg response time as the lowest. The difference between 1ms and 4ms is literally imperceptible to the human eye.

        • -2

Complete opposite to what you just said. IPS is bad for movies because it has awful contrast and brightness. Very good for gaming because it can have extremely low input lag (down to 3-4ms). Pixel response time depends on how good the panel is. Both VA and IPS can have the same

    • +1

response rate is 5ms on the website

    • An IPS that is also a VA.

  • +1

    I think 60 Hz.
Here, they also state 60Hz in the spec

I can almost guarantee that review is fake. There's no actual photos and its little more than a feature summary so take it with a grain of salt.

I am not affiliated with ASUS/HN. I am just an owner of this monitor and it is quite decent for its price.

@AlextheMeertkat I find Amazon reviews are a good source for getting honest reviews and only from customers who have purchased the item. If I'm to buy a big ticket item and there are reviews on Amazon I usually take a few minutes to read the reviews to get a good feel of potential issues with the product whether I'm buying it from Amazon or not.
Anyhow in this case 4.3***** stars is pretty good for a monitor.

          • @Lukearse:

I find Amazon reviews are a good source for getting honest reviews and only from customers who have purchased the item.

I have no idea how you came to that conclusion but as many as 50% of Amazon reviews have been found to be fake in analysis and a grey hat marketing industry exists whose purpose is to game Amazon with fake reviews.

            • @Diji1: Everything you said can be applied to any large online retailer that has customer reviews. "but as many as 50% of Amazon reviews" doesn't really mean anything, that likely means that in one case half the reviews were fake, but in all the others it was significantly less!! Anyhow of all the customer review sites, I trust Amazon over all others( this doesn't mean I believe everything I read). If you look at Banggood or Gearbest and many other competitors to Amazon they clearly delete negative reviews, that's why every product has 4.9 stars, but Amazon has many critical reviews and they're the ones I look for to try and find potential issues with the product that I want to purchase. Its worked well for me, be skeptical, read many negative reviews be wary of positive reviews. It's not 🚀rocket🚀 science!!

    • Remember you can overclock your monitor with no risk to it. I usually get 75hz, worth doing in my opinion.

      • +2

        how do you do this?

      • +1

        Yep how x 2

        • +2

Depends on your graphics card, I have NVIDIA so the process is as follows:
          -Open Nvidia control panel
          -Go to change resolution
          -Click customise
(If customize is greyed out go to manage 3d settings, click the drop down box on DSR and ensure nothing is ticked, then go back and customise will be available)
          -Click create custom resolution
-Here you can change your refresh rate. Every monitor is different so some will go higher some will go lower. Simply increase the refresh rate until when you test the screen goes entirely black. Once you hit that point just knock it down 1hz and save that.
You now have a higher refresh rate! It sounds like a lot of steps but it's not that hard. For AMD or others I'm not sure what the process is I know it is possible though you'll just have to find the specific way for your card.

By the way this is totally safe!

how hard is to claim the price drop? I have tried NAB price drop claim and its pretty much a waste of time with all the restriction ie cant be a special, cant be online, has to be XX km within the initial purchase etc.

    • 28 Degrees was really easy in my experience. I just uploaded the invoice and evidence of the price drop and a few days later, it was approved.

    • I have done ~20 times with my 28-degress card and never had any problem, just a 2-page form that takes ~5 minutes to fill in.

    Alternative option: https://www.umart.com.au/ViewSonic-VX3209-2K-32IN-IPS-LED-VG…

Or if don't need 2K res but want better specs (144Hz & 1ms) and curved: https://www.umart.com.au/Viewsonic-32in-VA-FHD-144Hz-Curved-…

    • +2

True. However, this one is a VA monitor not IPS. I know it's a matter of personal preference but it is worth to mention.

      • They're both IPS according to the specs.

        • +3

          he meant the 2nd umart link vx3258 - VA 1080p 144hz

the 1st umart link vx3209 "superseded" by vx3276-2k which can be had under $300 during ebay 20%

the better value would be AOC IPS version with 75hz Freesync

How does this compare to the AstiVita deal last week?

    • +3

i bought that. going to return it. the viewing angle on 2 sides are terrible. if you look in the middle, 2 sides of the screen become gray :(

      • Yeah I thought the viewing angles were quite rough too. Do you need to provide a valid reason for returning it?

        • i haven't sent it yet. but i think you can return regardless. i have prime and last time i chat with the support and explain the situation. they were quite helpful and created return order for me.

        • Just completed my return. Super hassle free!

  • Good deal but 32" too big for me. Any deals for a 27 or 28" ?

  • Personally I will never buy another ASUS monitor.

The one I am using now scratches SO easily. I have 3 visible scratches after 2 years and I am a careful person. My prior Samsung monitor I used for 4 years and not a single scratch.

    • +12

LOL how would you scratch a monitor? I've got an ASUS and I don't find anything wrong with it being fragile to scratches.

      Sound like a user issue

      • Had my asus monitors for over 5 years. No issues what so ever. Agreed. How do you scatch a monitor?

        • I flew a little inside drone into my Acer XB270HU accidentally, left a scratch on the top left hand corner of the screen.

But used a rubber on it and seemed to (mostly) fix it. But I learnt from that mistake to not fly a drone in the study again 😂

          • +5

@Nousernamehere: I have people at work that touch their monitor often to point things out, Misha must be one of them.

Touching a monitor really grinds my gears!

Touching a monitor really grinds my gears!

              Absolutely agree 100%.

            • @[Deactivated]: Oh that annoys the hell out of me too. Maybe it’s something to do with the amount of touch screen devices out there nowadays that people are just to use to doing it so don’t think any differently when it comes to a monitor?

              • +1

@Nousernamehere: It's nothing new, have had people do it to my screens since 2004. One colleague in particular used to push my monitors so hard I'd need to realign them on their vesa mounts.

            • @[Deactivated]: I stuck a label that says DO NOT TOUCH THE SCREEN!!!

      • +1

You mean I'm not supposed to use a scouring pad to clean the screen?

        • Mate, real professionals use steel wool to clean screens.

      • One scratch was from a power plug that hit it at very low speed as I was moving it behind the monitor (so i was suprised it left a mark), the other two are a mystery.

I do move my monitor from place to place more than most people, like once every couple of months but I am always fairly careful.

Its not a 'user issue' since i have had several monitors and not scratched any of the others.

Oh an I do not ever 'touch' the screen like some people do I am not one of them.

I will grant it may be just a badly made ASUS model. It is not their best one by any stretch, perhaps their others are better but I know that THIS ASUS monitor scratches way too easily.

Therefore personally I will avoid them and never recommend ASUS monitors. We all have our opinions and this is mine.

Pay a little extra and get a Samsung that will be better quality IMHO.

        • +1

Why would you be surprised that a metal tip of a power plug would scratch it?

  • How is this compared to the ViewSonic? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/419110

    Or that astivista one?

    • +2

I bought that Viewsonic in a recent 20% off eBay around around $320. Loved it so much I bought a second one yesterday for ~$330 using ebays price match with Umart at $349.

These are replacing 27” Apple screens and are not quite as good quality wise, but much better than I expected and a fantastic screen for the price. Highly recommended.

I haven’t seen/used the Asus in this deal so can’t compare sorry.

  • Any chance you are using windows 10? Hows the text rendering? I got a 32inch samsung 2k va. Its terrible, the text is so blurry. Dell ultrashap is good, my office minitor, but dont want to spend 1k. Now i dont know what to replace the crap samsung I got.

I m using lenovo yoga 920 4k laptop to pair with it.

    • There's some scaling options in windows menu somewhere specifically around text, try play around and you might get it better

      • +1

Thanks mate. I probably did almost all of them. 125 scale, the win8 dpi switch app, registry hack, the .bat on startup thingy etc

    • Yes, I am on Windows 10 and it seems to be okay.
Eyes-bleeding text rendering together with colour accuracy were the main reason why I sold my previous 2-year old 27" IPS LG and bought this one.
in my case, it is drastically better than the LG and I haven't even touched font settings since I change the monitor. Obviously, I can’t guarantee that will not occur in your case.

      • Whats the color accuracy?

      • AlextheMeertkat, can you please let me know if the screen is matte or glossy. Thank you!

        • +1

          It is matte

    • I use 27" 1440p monitors and have no need for scaling. Also, Dell have sub $500 monitors. But all manufacturers should have comparable definition. Maybe there is a config issue on the Samsung?

      • Its Samsung c32h711 model btw

        • when green is green and purple is purple

  • +1

Just picked one up from HN Wiley Park, they had 2 more left
Rep also said they had another one same size & $349 as well but curved if that’s your thing, sorry no model number

    • Based on my experience, don't forget to turn off (or, at least, to play with )the "vivid pixel" function as it is ON by default and might cause a bleeding eyes syndrome. It is a googlable problem.

    • Did you go curved or flat? Why? Trying to decide if I should grab one

      • If it's flat IPS vs curved VA then go IPS every time.

        • Ah didn't realise the curved was VA.

    • mdcsooty, can you please let me know if the screen is matte or glossy. Thank you!

      • +1

        Sorry only just opened box
        It is matte

  • Thanks so much OP (Ordered and awaiting collection SMS from HN Joondalup), I have been wanting to update and replace my awful "ASUS MX239H" Monitor for some years, but procrastination kicks in each time with me, thanks for making a decision finally an easy one. Plus, It could not be any worse than the monitor I have already, and have regretted that purchase from day one when picking it up from PLE who recommended it after having a 24 inch VA Samsung which I loved (The Samsung passed away when playing online games many years past). Really looking forward to seeing some colour again.
Is it worth getting the displayport cable over using the current HDMI I have connected to my Gigabyte 1050Ti 4G card? Any help would be most welcome :-)

    • +1

Generally the main advantage of DP is using FreeSync or or GSync.
Doesn't look like this monitor supports either, so just run with HDMI since it comes with one.

      • +1

Cheers @jayz :-), just setting it up right now, the extra realestate with this screen size is amazing, colours out of the box look nice too. Will have to use the settings that everyone else has suggested above. Happy buying for me.

    • awful "ASUS MX239H"

What? I ran a triple MX279H setup for 5 years solid without a single issue. They're fantastic IPS monitors, super clear and sharp colours. The stands can be a bit iffy but hardly what I would call awful. Even the built in B&O speakers are impressive for what they are.
